Wonderful Old House in Great Location

Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Wonderful old house on three levels. Five bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, good wifi, British TV stations, dvds, board games. Washer and Dryer (which is rare in a French rental). Large terrace, free parking across the street. Located just inside the beautiful old town of Sarlat. Would definitely recommend this rental to everyone except perhaps disabled folks as the bedrooms are on the second and third floors. Close to everything you would want/need in Sarlat and a good place to stay as you tour nearby villages and attractions. We come to Europe at least once a year for extended stays and rent most of the time, this is one of the best rentals.

      Fantastic accomodation

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My wife and I, and her sister and husband stayed here for 6 days in September 2012. What a fantastic place this turned out to be. The town of Sarlat offers so much to do and see and the Saturday market is unbelievable, so many options for food, clothing and other items. The house is exceptionally well equipemd, it is almost like walking back into your own home, with all the typical home apliances and comforts you would expect if you went to vist a friend's house. We used Sarlat as a base and visited many of the surrounding attractions that the area has to offer, so many castles, medievil villages, vineyards and even more food. We came back to australia for a rest !. Thanks Bernie and adelle for providing a great home away from home. Wayne & Hetty Thomas / Yarra Junction / Victoria / Australia

      Perfect location-lovely and comfortable residence

Left on 07/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012

We enjoyed a week in this lovely old home that forms part of the ancient wall around the city of Sarlat-en-Canada. It was quiet, comfortable, convenient...full of amenities. It has a small but very functional kitchen-we did meals for 8 there...and you can walk to everything. Host Bernie was accommodating. Sarlat is a perfect base for exploring the region. Could have spent another week easily.

Ideally located large house, well furnished with large terrace.

Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in June 2012

There were 6 people in our group, and the house has room for plenty more people. 100 meters from the town center, yet located in a quiet alleyway opposite the town gardens, this was a perfect location. 2 really good restaurants within 50 meters. We loved this big house, cool in summer, big terrace for eating outside. The bedrooms and bathrooms were roomy, the kitchen very well equipped, and plenty of detailed instructions on how to use everything and where to visit. We've stayed in plenty of vacation rentals, and this house is highly recommended.

It's beautiful, comfortable and very, very cozy. Nice place as the trip center within the Perigord. I don't doubt in recommending this place to my closed friends.

Great house in a great location

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I stayed here in May 2012 with four other family members, all adults. We all loved Sarlat and especially the house. The amenities were very complete, the house was very clean. The location, just a short walk from the center of Sarlat was perfect. We found parking near the house easily every day. From Sarlat it is easy to drive to many interesting locations in the Dordogne. We could happily have stayed for more than a week, and hope to return some day.

Lovely house which is perfectly located in the old part of the town. The supermarket, bakery etc are close by. The house is also well-equipped and has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The house is a home rather than just rental accommodation and this is a big part of what makes it so pleasant. The preliminary emails with instructions and the manual with information and instructions on how to operate the equipment, find free parking etc and the information about the area are also very helpful.

We needed lodging for up to 7 people during the month of July, and Residence Reygate was perfect. We love to cook, and the kitchen was well furnished so that we could buy food at the markets and prepare it at home. The terrace is charming - perfect for breakfast or a leisurely dinner. The bedrooms are on the two upstairs floors, so be prepared for stairs, but there's a bathroom on each floor. Maintenance questions were answered promptly and cordially. We couldn't recommend this house more highly!

Sarlat is the perfect place to experience the charm of the Dordo

Left on 01/10/2012 for a stay in June 2011

We enjoyed our stay in Residence Reygate and would go again tomorrow given half the chance. The home is perfect for a group of people; because the bedrooms are large and each one quite isolated from the other; giving privacy. The living rooms and patio are well sized for guests to find their own spot to read or come together to enjoy meals and chats. The home is brilliantly situated in the town; one can park one's car nearby and yet the town and all its charm are only a few metres from the house. It is easy to acquire food and the markets are quite superb; reflecting the quality produce of the area. The home is comfortable and the amenities certainly served our group of 5 (3 different families)very well. To live in a Medieval town for a week and explore the region have left great memories. Canoeing the Dordogne River on a hot summer's day is a memory that will remain with us forever.

Excellent rental house. Great location in a great town

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed at Residence Reygate in august with two other couples and the house was perfect. With 3 floors, this is a suprisingly big house so you certainly don't feel cramped for space and the courtyard is a brilliant place to kick back with a wine at the end of a days sight seeing. The house is very well maintained, nicely decorated and well kitted out with a good kitchen, washing machine/dryer and a large TV area.

We had some extremely hot days during our week in Sarlat (as high as 40c on one day) but the house stayed very cool, no doubt due to the very thick walls that used to be part of the cities original wall. The location is also good, with the house being only a short walk from the town centre and the Saturday markets which are great fun.

If you're looking for a good place to stay in the Dordogne, Sarlat is certainly a town with plenty to see and do and this is a very nice place to stay in Sarlat.

      Gorgeous house; amazing town

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in October 2011

Three of us (New Zealanders) stayed at Residence Reygate for a week, and were very impressed with the character, charm and comfort of the house. There is ample space - in fact there were two bedrooms spare! The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to provide everything guests need, including a large basket of quality books in the living room, and even free phone calls to New Zealand! The only thing we had any difficulty with was locking and unlocking the front door - but that was probably our poor technique! The location, within the city walls of the medieval town, is excellent - just a quick stroll to the amazing historic buildings. We hired a car for three days, which was the perfect amount of time to explore the beautiful Dordogne countryside, with its fascinating rock faces, beautiful villages, and multiple chateaux. Thanks to Bernie's instructions, we were able to find free parking a short stroll away. One thing that disappointed during our stay was Sarlat cuisine, which we felt was inferior and overpriced. I recommend eating outside the town if possible.

      Incredible Week in Old Sarlat

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in September 2011

Last September we spent a week at this property inside the walls of Old Sarlat. It is a well-equipped house that is very efficiently managed by the owner.Sarlat is filled with restaurants and activities, and this property places all of it literally at your doorstep. One of the highlights of our entire 18 day stay in France was the dinner in the garden at Le Presidial... just a three minute walk down the sidewalk!
Parking and traffic patterns are definite negatives in Sarlat, particularly on market days. We ultimately figured out how to deal with it, so all things considered ,this is one great location.

We had a lovley stay in Residence Reygate. The house was very clean, had all the mod cons and was quiet, spacious and clean. Everything was labeled with instructions so we had no problems with anything. The house is located in a beautiful historical French village. There are loads of fantastic attractions in the area - castles, canoeing, prehostirc caves and magnificent vilages built into the rocks. The whle region is very picturesque. We stayed in Sarlat for 8-days but could easily have spent several weeks there. The village itself was easy to get around and people were very friendly. The weekly market was a highlight - the food was amazing.

All mod cons. 5 bedrooms, 3 toilets and 2 bathrroms.Being part of the city wall makes access for loading/unloading easy and its only 2-3 minutes walk from the town square but quiet. Parking is fairly easy in any of the public carparks or for short periods just outside the back door. The town must be the most gastronomic in France and that's saying something! We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday staying at Residence Reygate. It had every possible facility we could have wished for with very modern bathrooms, spacious lounge and dining areas and very comfortable bedrooms.
The kitchen with dishwasher and microwave made everthing very easy and the laundry facilities with washer and dryer made the house totally self contained. We wouldn't hesitate to recommended this accommodation.

The outdoor area was used all the time.

The location couldn't have been better - a very short stroll into the town square and a bakery and postal facililities just metres from the front gate.

Our stay at this residence was excellent and added to our adventure in the Dordogne region.

We found the town of Sarlat and the surrounding areas very beautiful. The town itself has everything to attract visitors with lots of shopping areas, trendy cafes but also with amazing historical value.

An ideal spot to sample the delights of rural France. A gorgeous and slightly funky abode. Projects the charm of its origins without the discomfort of medieval reality. Plenty of accommodation, easy access to excellent local produce and enough space to sit back and enjoy the wine!

Perfect for a romantic get-away or just a group of friends catching up on holiday.

Many excellent recreational opportunities in and around Sarlat. As I'm a cyclist, and always looking for riding opportunities, I'd thoroughly recommend basing yourself here and exploring the excellent road and rail trail options on offer.

I rated "service" a little lower as we didn't require any!

Wonderful magical experience in the medieval gem of a city

Left on 01/12/2011 for a stay in July 2010

The home was well maintained, spotless. Enjoyed getting back to it after a hot day of sightseeing. We experienced an unusually hot heat wave for about 5 days. (The outer walls were so thick that it kept the inside downstairs reasonably cool but the bedrooms were very warm.) It felt "magical" to walk back from the square late, in the twisty alleys that lead up to the house. Like we could run into a musketeer or an artiste suddenly...Have to be careful with dog poo...something that is pretty endemic in France but is more or a problem when there is very little street lighting.

Facilities are excellent: washing machine, lines for drying in the garden, crockery and cooking utensils all there for use. Garden faces the road but it quiets down by 10 p.m. Market, bakeries, a small supermarket within 5 min walk from the house.

Loved the stay and the experience.

Sarlat is a wonderful little village for savouring what rustic France has to offer. Residence Reygate, situated right in the village, is just 150m from where Sarlat's market days are held - so location is just brilliant. The residence itself is spacious but the fact that it had all mod cons made us quickly forget the previous months travel living out of a suitcase. We will return some time soon to spend another week there. Recommended to anyone wanting to visit the Dordogne region.

This home is by far the best we have ever stayed in, it has to be seen to be believed. Charming beyond belief is how i would best describe it , a magical house in a magical town , filled with character and exquisite features. We had many a meal in the courtyard overlooking the ancient city walls, where we would sit back sipping on our wine dreaming that one day we will own our own piece of heaven like this in beautiful France. Another big plus about this property was the free internet access and telephone calls, also you would step outside the door and you are right around the corner from the centre of Sarlat. If i am ever in this part of France again i would not hesitate to stay in this beautiful property.

      Perfect Location and Very Big

Left on 01/11/2011 for a stay in October 2010

Walk one direction and you're in the medieval city with all its shops, restaurants, cathedral, and ambience; walk another direction and buy your daily croissants and pain with the natives. The third direction takes you to the market, cinema and another row of stores. And finally, the fourth will have you in a large city park. I call that a perfect location.
The house itself, with 5 double bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, is huge. During the warm months, 10 people could be comfortable here since they'd be outside most of the time anyway, and since most rentals will be during the warm months this is fine. We were there during a rather cold late October, and the inside living area would probably be a bit too small for that many people if they were inside a lot. Also, cooking for that many would not be easy. The furnishings are clean and new, not uncomfortable, but also not terribly comfortable or attractive. It's a great value considering the location and price.

The owner lives in australia, but was responsive via e-mail and gave excellent instructions about everything in the house. The caretaker of the house lives in nearby Domme and was semi-responsive (her e-mail was down) so when I had problems with an appliance I was pretty much on my own.

There was definitely more than enough space and the cooking facilities were fine. Also, the house is located in the centre of the old town near shops, market, playground and historic sites. It was a great base also for exploring the beautiful countryside and the various tourist attractions in the area - Castelnaud, Beynac etc. Bernie was fantastic with the information he provided and the various things he left in the house for us to use such as the computer and mountain bikes.

We enjoyed a week in the delightful Residence Reygate. A home with all the modern comforts and a lovely way to relax each day after sight seeing in the surrounding areas. The home is ideally located to pick up local food and wine and enjoy back in the comfort of your own abode or just a hop skip and a jump away from cafes and restaurants.

The house is spacious and is great for couples and/or families.

      Perfect place to stay

Left on 11/14/2009 for a stay in October 2009

Our stay at Residence Reygate in Sarlat for one week was an ideal way for our family of four to explore the beautiful Dordogne region. The three storey stone house has all the amenities of a home away from home including a beautiful sunny courtyard where we often ate breakfast. We really appreciated the email contact from the owners before and during our holiday who provided us with lots of information to help us enjoy our stay. The best part was the location as the house is very central, so we spent many hours just walking around the ancient town. Sarlat is also within a few kilometres of many other attractions and we recommend a canoe trip down the Dordogne where we took a break and visited the Chateau Castelnaud. My wife and I also had an amazing meal at Le Presidial restaurant that is within 30 metres of the house. That topped off our culinary experience after enjoying the beautiful produce from the twice weekly Sarlat market. We had a terrific time and we hope to come back one day.

We had a wonderful time in Residence Reygate in the beautiful town of Sarlat. This property is built on the original wall that surrounds the town and extends to 3 levels of superb accommodation. We were in a group of 9, 4 couples and a single and we all had a bedroom each with fantastic amenities. The residence has all the needs for a home away from home stay including sattelite TV with English speaking channels which was an unexpected bonus. The town of Sarlat is beautiful and the surrounding Dordogne region breathtaking. All in all a fantastic memorable time and worthy of the highest recommendation. We are returning in September 2010 and can't wait to spend more time there.

Fantastic Town, comfy and spacious place for a family holiday

Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in June 2009

This home comes with a spacious courtyard, with potted plants and espaliered roses and a nice outdoor setting, where we sat every evening until nightfall at 10pm during our 10 day stay. There were plenty of spacious bedrooms for the 4 of us with lovely crisp white linen, comfy beds and ever so cute shuttered windows which allowed us to take advantage of the height of the home which has 3 floors and is positioned high on the edge of the town near the original town wall and a lovely park. The home has all of the things we are used to having in our home and we appreciated the computer connected to the internet with VOIP and made lots of use of this to check on our businesses and contact family at no cost.

We love food and wine and we enjoyed the produce markets, the patisseries, the French supermarkets(which are so much better than Australian ones), and a nice meal at the local 1 star Michelin rated restaurant which is only about 150 meters away from the house. It was really nice to be able to shop for and cook our own food - as one can get awfully sick of eating out every meal on a 7 week holiday.

Sarlat is a wonderful spot for exploring the smaller villages nearby. The tourist bureau is very helpful and we can recommend the guided walking tour of the town and the coach tours of the area. We hired a car and went further afield and visited Albi where we stayed overnight and then visited the next day Carcassonne before driving home(yes it is a long way but the highways are excellent). Sarlat was a great base for 7 or so days and if you are heading south Albi is highly recommended as another base.

If we were doing it all over again, we would return to Sarlat and the Reygate residence; out stay was fabulous.

Residence Reygate is a beautiful 5 bedroom home inside the city walls. The home is tastefully decorated with everything provided. There is also british cable TV for those of us who don't speak french. Features also include the huge terrace and the large bathroom (most french bathrooms are tiny!!!). As the residence is located within the city walls, everything is in walking distance including Le Presidal (Michelin star rated restaurant) which is literally 20m away.
Residence Reygate is highly recommended as it would be hard to find a place better in any way in Sarlat.

      Magnifique!

Left on 11/04/2009 for a stay in September 2009

Our stay at ResidenceReygate was magnifique! The location of the
residence is wonderful, we'd pop along to the boulangerie each morning for
fresh bread & with superb September weather we ate in the courtyard each
morning and most evenings. The 3 levels of the residence ensured each
couple had privacy and the common areas, esp the courtyard meant we
could all socialise and eat and drink...and eat...and drink...and drink...and
eat...together in comfort. We certainly enjoyed sampling all the local
produce and wines both from the fabulous Sarlat market and the local
      supermarkets which are close by.
The owners at the Residence, Bernie & Adele, have thought of everything to
make staying here, comfortable and 'easy' - eg there are local maps, and
new kitchen & laundry facilities. In fact, all the facilities are new, and have
been blended well within the medieval walls. Bernie also provided lots of
local information to us which really helped to ensure we had a smooth
      arrival.
Sarlat is a great spot to explore the Perigord region, there is a rich history
and many beautiful towns & areas to visit within a small radius from Sarlat.
The Sarlat tourist bureau, just a short walk from the Residence provides
good information and the tour of Sarlat town with a local guide was also
worth doing. The kayaking is not to be missed, it offers spectacular scenery
and the current ensured we didn't have to paddle too hard! There are also
      many walking tracks to explore.
We cannot recommend ResidenceReygate highly enough.

      An Excellent Place to Stay

Left on 11/03/2009 for a stay in May 2009

We greatly enjoyed our stay in the Residence Reygate. It is extremely comfortable, well appointed with tons of space and it’s only a few minutes walk to the middle of town. The owner is easy to deal with and for what the Residence provides his prices are extremely reasonable. For value and convenience there’s unlikely to be a better place to stay in Sarlat. In addition to Sarlat being a fascinating town, it is a wonderfully central location with masses to see in the surrounding area. We stayed for 12 days and still had to miss some of the better sights. Highly rcommended.
