Cottage Profile Newly constructed, five bedroom, 2800 square foot cottage located 1.4 km from Lake Huron in the resort community of Oliphant. The beautiful sands of Lonely Island Beach are just 3 km away and Sauble Beach is only a 11 km drive away. Enjoy either of these beautiful sand beaches as well as the peace and quiet of the Oliphant area. The cottage is located in a very private setting at the end of a dead end road. This newly built cottage was absolutely perfect for our two families. This would be our fourth cottage we have rented and by far it has been the best! Our kids had a blast. We did everything from playing badminton and bocce in the backyard to camp fires at night. When it rained we played pool and air hockey in the basement and even had a Harry Potter marathon. There is lots to do! Two decks to sit out on, one in the front where its great to read a book or the huge deck in the back where most of the action was. The garage came in handy when my wife decided to purchase a very large raft for the kids to play with at the beach and also to store our coolers and other stuff. This cottage is bigger than most homes and has everything you could possibly need. Best cottage in Oliphant and just minutes away from Sauble Beach. My hats off to Philips Place!!! We will definitely be renting again next year. See you in 2012.

Pros: Good location. Close to Lonely beach (walking distance). Good privacy.
Cons: Where do I start? We get there and the place is dirty.. very dirty. Especially the basement. The porch and the backyard were in poor condition as well. We had to clean the place so that we could live there.. it was that bad. Hence, the one star review for check-in, cleanliness, and comfort.
It was also extremely intrusive when the owners came in to 'check up' on us. It was a gross violation of our privacy. This automatically guarantees 'One Star' Overall.
Perhaps the worst part of the stay, happened after our stay. We got a phone call claiming that we left the place dirty, which couldn't be farther from the truth. We were charged 'extra'. Hence the one star ratings for Value, and Service. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family and encourage you to look elsewhere. There are lots of better cottages around this area with reasonable owners. -

There is nothing to walk to or see in Oliphant. Horrible water front, no beach or swimming unless you are a canine. Lovely home, but right beside crying babies and lawnmowing neighbours. Needs landscaping and firepit re-design. Too many personal items in home that belong to the owners. Damage deposit not returned and home was left cleaner than when we arrived.
