Gamla Pósthúsið (the old post house) was originally constructed in 1952 and was an active Post Office until the end of 2008. Gamla Pósthúsið is open all year round and conveniently located in the centre of Sauðárkrókur, (opposite the church), with only short walking distance to bakery, restaurants, museum and harbour. The self catering studio apartments are newly renovated, each with private bathroom and kitchen. Sauðárkrókur is about 290 km, a scenic 3 hr drive from Reykjavik. Situated in the northwest of Iceland Sauðárkrókur is the largest town in the Skagafjörður region. A short detour from the main ring road will bring you to this quiet fishing village with a population of nearly 3,000. The town of Sauðárkrókur is centrally located to many of the main attractions in the Skagafjörður area and nearby districts. You will find a range of activities to enjoy depending on the season from general sightseeing to more adventurous activities such as swimming, horseriding, rafting and skiing. I enjoyed my stay here, its well located, quiet and within easy walking distance of restaurants. Check in was easy and hassle free. Facilities are excellent, all brand new and well set up.
