      Wonderful Family Home

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in September 2012

My brother and his wife had expressed their love for Savannah and we finally arranged a long weekend together so they could show my husband and I around. The location of the McDonough Townhouse is perfect for walking everywhere and there is plenty of parking. There are two master suites with private baths upstairs and a half bath downstairs. The kitchen is nicely furnished and there is a pizza place less than a block away for late night snacking. A beautiful home.

Perfect for us, with a few small exceptions

Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in November 2012

We have 3 kids (ages 7, 5 and 1) and this place was great for our first visit to Savannah - the bigger kids slept downstairs on the foldout couch, the baby slept in her own room upstairs (pack and play). We should have brought a stair-gate to prevent the baby from attempting the stairs, but that was our own fault. Pros: We liked the decor, the amount of space, the location (a 5-10 minute walk to everything), the dining room, and the parking convenience right off the street -- made loading/unloading easy for our family. The cons: the block's garbage collection seems to happen right in front of the house, which led to some bad, lingering odors inside the house if we left the door or window open for more than a few seconds. Housekeeping forgot to pick up the kitchen garbage from the previous tenants, which was a little gross. The outside deck could use some beautification (perhaps some plants?), it's quite barebones. The price ($700 for 3 nights) was a tad higher than the overall value, but we very much enjoyed our stay.

      Cosy, convenient and comfortable

Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We were two Moms and two daughters who spent a wonderful three nights in Savannah at this Townhouse. It was a perfect choice for us from the comfortable king-sized beds, the two full bathrooms (and half bath,) the well-equipped kitchen and the location. We really liked that the kitchen had a supply of spices, sugar etc because these are not items I would typically buy while staying in a self-catering unit but are appreciated when you have them. We were within walking distance to everything we wanted to see and felt safe at all times. We spent our first evening after arrival viewing the 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" DVD which was thoughtfully included with several other movies in the living room and enjoyed spotting highlights from the movie as we toured Savannah. It was hot when we were there but the aC and ceiling fans kept us cool. We had a fair amount of rain during our stay and did not get to use the outdoor area as we would have liked but it would have been perfect for having our morning coffee. Overall - a great choice and we would return.

      It was okay

Left on 05/07/2012 for a stay in April 2012

The unit was okay. Pretty good location (outskirts of historic distric). The carpeting upstairs needs to be cleaned. Some throw rugs need to be replaced. Wasn't instructed on when trash ran, how to leave the unit upon checking out, etc. Could use a deep cleaning (dusting fans, t.v.s, showers, etc), but was for the most part clean. If this is an all girls group you may want to stay in a hotel or a B&B.; We surprised two different homeless men, canvassing the trash bins. That probably doesn't have anything to do with the unit, just Savannah in general. Unit behind/beside us had parties two nights until 2-3 a.M. so bring ear plugs. The bedroom with the shower needs more storage or tables to lay stuff on. Overall, it was a descent place. Would probably do business with the company again, but would not stay at this particular unit. Oh, the deposit was sent back very promptly.

      Savannah Getaways

This stay took place in the middle of a great number of back to back vacation rental turnarounds where very little extra time can be spent in deep cleaning between check in's and check outs. The previously scheduled deep cleaning has been moved up. A professional carpet cleaning company has been scheduled for this coming week between check in's and check out's.

There have seldom been complaints of excessive partying but occasionally if ever over the past decade at this particular home. Keep in mind Savannah is a festive town where planned parties are subject to take place at any time. Savannah is also a downtown urban area where occasional signs of homeless folks are possible regardless of where you find yourself in the landmark historic district.

Based on a large number of five star reviews at this home, most guests feel the strategic location off Crawford Square along with extra off street parking make this home a much sought after location.

Savannah- great city, we'd pick another place to stay

Left on 02/05/2012 for a stay in December 2011

All contact with Savannah Getaways was excellent. we found the home mediocre/disappointing- a bit shabby, cleanliness fair but not excellent. Location-next time we would prefer more in center of historic district. Disappointed that it had no internet/ wifi access.

Thank you so much for taking time to review this McDonough Street home. We appreciate your comments and are very sorry to hear about the impressions you had of this home. The owners are in the process of replacing the shutters. They had to be special ordered and should be installed by the end of the month. Regarding the cleaning, we have not had many, if any, complaints regarding the cleanliness of this house, so we will certainly pass this along to housekeeping so that they can do what needs to be done to prevent any further similar impressions. Finally, internet/WiFi was not advertised for this property at the time you booked it, but the owner has decided to add WiFi at the property, which will be available as of February 7th.

Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in October 2011

The house was perfect for my husband and I to spend time with our son and daughter-in-law. We live on opposite ends of the country and don't get to see each other very often. This house was perfect for spending family time together while having plenty of room. Location close to everything in Historical District so no need to move the car.

      Fall 2011 in Savannah

Left on 10/03/2011 for a stay in September 2011

As with years past, we had a great visit to Savannah thanks to a house rental from Savannah Getaways. The McDonough Townhouse was exactly as described and it was convenient to most of the historic district.

We really enjoy staying in houses in order to experience more of the culture of the city. We feel like we belong and not like tourists when we stay in these houses. Besides, staying in a house is usually about the same price per person as hotel rooms after you get all of the added taxes and fees.

      Wonderful Savannah Stay!!

Left on 07/15/2010 for a stay in July 2010

This was such a beautiful house! We loved how comfortable and clean the house was. The kitchen was well equipped with all the comforts of home. It was nice to be able to grocery shop at Kroger for breakfast items (we dined out for lunches and dinners). As avid coffee drinkers, we loved the gourmet coffee pot and coffee filters that were available. We had brought our own coffee, but there was some for us there if we hadn't brought it! Every evening before going out to dinner we would have wine and cheese at the house, and it was nice to have a corkscrew, wineglasses, serving platters, etc. These are the little things that you just don't get when you stay in a hotel! We had a lot of relaxation time in Savannah and the living room was a very comfortable room to lounge in. The beds were very comfortable as well. There were only 3 adults in the house, but it easily could have comfortably accomodated 5. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere in the historic district - nothing was far away. The people at Savannah Getaways were such a pleasure to work with as well. Our stay was very easy and hassle free and our $200 deposit was promptly returned when they said it would return. We would not hesitate to return!!

      Absolutely Wonderful

Left on 06/10/2010 for a stay in May 2010

From the minute I booked with Savannah Getaways, the service was excellent. Everything that was offered was indeed supplied and some. The decor in this property is lovely, with fantastic beds and a kitchen so well equippped that one would feel guility not cooking! However, having discovered a fabulous deli/grocery store within minutes of the property, I fear the cooking went by the wayside and we picked up wine in this establishment at the same time! Also, the area was extremely quiet, the property close to everything and within easy walking distance of all the historic sites and what is a truly beautiful city. There are wonderful restaurants close at hand -- The Pink House where the seafood was mouthwatering not to mention Clary's for a great breakfast and/or lunch. We totally fell in love with Savannah and its people.

      At Home in Savannah

Left on 04/11/2010 for a stay in March 2010

We rented a small home at 509 McDonough Street in the Historic District of Savannah and had a perfectly charming time there. The home was just a house away from Crawford Square--lovely with a gazebo, benches, and live oaks--and the house was well equipped for cooking (everything we needed) and very comfortable. The beds were great--wonderful mattresses--and each bedroom had its own bath, so convenient.

I would recommend this house to a couple, perhaps one with a child. While not elegantly appointed, the house suited our needs (we're just two people) and was well situated. The living room was comfortable, although we couldn't figure out how to work the fireplace, which we would have liked on the several cold evenings we spent there. We gave a small dinner party and the dining room was adequate for four. The owners furnished us with tips about grocery shopping, things to do in the area, and places to buy wine and other necessities, which we appreciated. All in all, although not luxurious, the accommodations were comfortable. I'd certainly return.

Can there be a prettier city than Savannah? I doubt it. Altogether, we had a lovely time, enjoying the restaurants and the historic home tours, and the comforts of the little home on McDonough Street. Not a bad spot.

This started to be a trip with only 4 of us-2 bedrooms seemed plenty. Of course at the last minute another son and his girlfriend decided they wanted to go. With the sofabed in living room we had plenty of sleeping space for everyone. We've stayed in this unit before and love the decor and the amenties, and its so close to Colonial Park Cemetary....Spooky......everyone loved it. I just would like to add that I always use Savannah Getaways when we visit that lovely town...(several times a year)They are always so helpful, courteous, absolutely wonderful to deal with. THe homes are all beautiful and the prices ALWAYS beat the hotels. Plus..we are into very healthy lifestyles, which involve cooking most of our meals...for "clean" eating. Can't do that in a hotel:)

      Great for us!

Left on 11/12/2008 for a stay in October 2008

I rented this for myself and two daughters and we met for a three night visit to Savannah without children and had a great time. The property was wonderful. The houses on each side and their trash left much to be desired. Very rundown and unkept, however our accommodations were exactly as portrayed. Other renters had suggested more lighting in the Living room and I certainly agree with this assessment. Virtually few lamps and they put out very little light. Outside terrace kind of pitiful but private and we enjoyed each other as we sat out with our late afternoon wine and ignored the surroundings! We found everything we needed and even coffee was left for us in a basket which was a nice touch. Also, salt , pepper, sugar in the house. We only had breakfast and had taken what we needed, but how nice to discover that it was available. I would definitely stay here again. Unusual to find something with two full baths and a half bath downstairs. This was perfect for us and the few complaints would not keep us from renting it agian.

      Great Experience

We were in Savannah to go to our daughter's graduation froom SCAD. I
wanted a house to rent so we could accomodate grandparents without
renting two hotel rooms. We also needed a place to sit and socialize
when resting between events. We also had drop- in visits from our
daughter's friends and family after the graduation. We were able to
serve hors'dourves and dessert and wine. Lots of pictures were taken
of the happy grads. We were happy too because we could sit on
comfortable furniture, sleep in comfy beds and have a good night's
sleep on a quiet tree-lined street. This is the second time I have
stayed in one of your rentals. I was very happy both times. Thank you
for having a well stocked kitchen. We didn't have to buy any
paper/plastic products for our party. Everything worked well.

P.S.The dryer does not dry things very well. Perhaps a plugged vent pipe?

Two couples stayed in this Savannah condo for three nights and it was lovely. It is a convenient location near Crawford Square and we liked being able to park our car right in front. We had plenty of room throughout the house and the furnishings were very nice. Even though the bathrooms didn't have much counter space for toiletries, as you usually do in hotels, it was a lovely place to stay. The mattresses in both bedrooms were a little lumpy for our tastes, but overall, everything was great. Compared to the prices charged at many of the chain hotels in the area, this was a bargain!

We visited Savannah with another couple and found this home perfect to allow us to enjoy the downstairs together and have privacy in the two bedrooms/two baths upstairs. The home is beautifully decorated and well-equipped. The price was a good value, especially in the historic district. I would caution that its location is at the edge of the historic district in an area that is transitioning to nicer homes. We were cautioned by several local residents not to walk east of Crawford Square, but we felt perfectly safe at the house and walking.
