Overlooking the crystal clear waters of Savusavu Bay, Seaside Shanty is a wonderfully rustic holiday haven oozing charm from the moment one sets foot on the deck.

This delightful simply furnished "sixties" beach style cottage/bungalow which retains some of the original fittings ( including a marble topped alfresco table), is the perfect place to chill out, relax and enjoy the true island atmosphere. Guests will be entertained by the sounds of chirping birds or gently lapping waves.

Located at Lesiaceva Point just 6kms from Savusavu town, the cottage is right next door to Bayside Bure, a smaller version of beach bungalow. Sav...usavu is on Vanua Levu, a one hour domestic flight from Nadi Airport. The famed Jean Michel Cousteau resort is almost within coo-ee distance of the cottage and across a small dirt road (only 40 steps or so from the front door) is a golden sandy beach which stretches around the point in front of the resort and is the perfect option for an early morning brisk walk or an afternoon stroll at sunset (depending on the tide). Swimming is great at high tide and snorkelling even better right out front along the edge of the reef.

The cottage/bungalow is very spacious with a large lounge area opening on to a great roomy deck. Sunbathe in the lazy boy chairs at the edge of the deck or enjoy alfresco dining and sundowners at the end of the day. Have your cameras ready to capture the spectacular sunsets. The two bedrooms both have double beds and built-in wardrobes. The master bedroom which opens onto it's own deck and looks out over the water, has an adjoining bathroom with shower and bathtub. The second bathroom includes an automatic washing machine and stainless steel washtub.

A full kitchen with ample cupboard space comprises a gas stove with oven, fridge/freezer, toaster, hot water jug and all crockery and cutlery. A pantry starter kit including salt, pepper, tea, sugar and milk as well as cleaning supplies, is provided for guest convenience.

A radio/CD player with a limited selection of CDs is provided as well as a DVD player for entertainment on those lazy days.

SEASIDE SHANTY (bungalow/cottage) is located at Lesiaceva Point - 6kms from Savusavu town (a 10 minute drive along the side of the Bay), about 15kms from Savusavu airport and just a stone's throw away from the famed Jean Michel Cousteau Resort. Savusavu is on Vanua Levu which is a one hour domestic flight from Nadi International Airport.

TRANSPORT....
Bus services are 6 times daily and taxis are easily accessed by phone.

INTERNET....
A flashnet modem is provided on loan for guest convenience (if you have your own computer). Recharge vouchers can be purchased from outlets in town.

HOUSEKEEPING...
Housekeeping is provided once weekly for stays of 1 week or longer. Enquire about additional housekeeping if needed.

ACTIVITIES
SWIMMING is best at high tide right out in front of the bure .....or just laze in the water on the lilos (net airbeds with inflated rims).

SNORKELLING.... great snorkelling awaits you at the edge of the reef right out in front but even better treats abound at "Split Rock" - a 5 minute swim or walk along the same beach. Myriads of black and white striped fish surround you as you swim amongst the coral. It is recommended that guests bring their own snorkelling gear for hygiene reasons and rubber soled reef shoes.

KAYAKING ..... a double kayak is shared with guests of Bayside Bure next door. Paddle along the edge of the reef to see the coloured fish below or venture further around the Bay....

WALKING.... at low tide take a leisurely stroll along the beach past the resort and neighbouring coconut plantation...

FISHING.... gamefishing or local reef fishing can be arranged ...contact Edward at Trip n Tour.

TOURING.... rent a car or scooter from Edward at Trip n Tour and explore the coastal Hibiscus Highway or venture across the island to Labasa stopping off at Waisali Rainforest or Vuadomo Waterfall on the way....

BLACK PEARL FARM... J. Hunter Pearls, Savusavu's own black pearl farm produces exquisite natural gems renowned for their beautiful hues. The pearls are unsurpassed in lustre and orient giving them a natural radiance. Daily tours operate from the J. Hunter headquarters in town.

HOW TO GET THERE.....
Savusavu is located on Vanua Levu which is the second largest island in Fiji. Lesiaceva Road runs along the edge of beautiful Savusavu Bay.

BY AIR.... the best and easiest way to travel is by air. Daily domestic 1 hour flights on Pacific Sun (www.pacificsun.com) operate from Nadi International Airport or from Nausori Airport, Suva (a 45min. flight). The bure is only 15kms from Savusavu Airport.

BY SEA.... there are two ferries operating from Suva. It is a 12 hour journey, usually overnight. Cabins or aircraft style seats are available. The ferries are not luxurious so be prepared to rough it a little. Meals on board are cheap but tasty and quite substantial. It is advisable to take "sea legs" or some other anti-nausea tablet in the event of a rough journey.

Government taxes of 20% (15% Value Added tax and 5% Service Turnover Tax) must be added to daily rate of FJD170 per day. Rate is per night for the cottage and includes 2 people. Extra person rate is F$20 per person. Rate for sole occupancy is the same. A 25% deposit is required upon confirmation of booking and balance immediately upon arrival. No refund of deposit for cancellation 6 weeks or less prior to arrival. Note: Minimum stay is 3 nights. Rates are subject to change without notice. USD rate is indicative only. FJD rate is F$170.00 per night plus 20% taxes.

  It's a slice of heaven and more. My friends and I spent 4 dreamy days at this wonderful getaway and it was worth the long boat ride to get there. It is located 2mins from town and situated in one of the most breath taking spots in savusavu. Every morning you're greeted with the most amazing dawn scene and every evening the view from the balcony makes you feel like you're in the most perfect place ever created. The seaside shanty is a uniquely modern home with a touch of the old colonial era. Karen Bowers masterpiece worthy to be in any home magazine. The moment you walk up those stairs you're in total awe of the place. And the best part about it, is that it is self contained and has everything you need in accomodation for a little town like savusavu. And you also get to enjoy a white sandy beach, literally, right in front of your doorstep. I would certainly recommend this dream accomodation to anyone visiting savusavu. And for that price, youre certainly getting more then you bargained for. What also makes this place extremely special is Edward and Karen Bower. The proud owners of this fine establishment. Their warm fijian hospitality is not only genuinely shown but you'll find yourself being mesmerised by the creativity surrounding this family. From paintings to wrought iron sculptures, you're bound to fall in love with both. And for those keen to sightsee like we did, Mr Bower hires out cars so that you can take an adventurous cruise around this beautiful island. 4 days spent at the seaside shanty with dear friends and family couldn't have been more perfect so thank you so much Edu and Karen, for making us feel like we were at home while away from home. We will definitely be back for more of those gorgeous sunsets, sunrises, comfy living, prestine waters and everything else that made our holiday simply perfect. Much love from CC, Chantale, Lance, Nicky and I...all the way from australia and PNG! No doubt we miss waking up to the waves crashing onto the shore ;-)

  Oh my gosh,
  
  This place is truly a slice of Paradise. A few friends and I stayed here for 5 days and it was amazing. So peaceful and the view is breathtaking, the beach front was a favorite spot to be for a mid-day or afternoon swim. We were very comfortable. Such a cozy cottage which accommodates you well, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The main town is 10-15 minutes away by car so everything is relatively close by.
