Description from the owner
The beautiful latticed and fretworked cottages set in 2 acres of tropical woodlands above Scarborough, sleep up to 6 people, in three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one of which is ensuite. The woodlands surrounding the cottages are made up of fruit trees, giant mahoganies and other hardwoods. These, and the reliable breeze, make the cottages and the land itself shady and cool. Attached to each bedroom is a balcony where you can enjoy the wild life with your morning beverage or the stars in the clear sky with your evening aperitif.
The open living and dining areas are close to the cottages. They are set inside the forest itself and are freq...Read more

CanadaIf you want to share your holiday with the owners
Left on 02/19/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We pass 7 days in January and appreciate the help transportation of Mark, the nice place, the nature and the good food but
We dont recommanded this place without a big advise
You will never eat alone and relax together during the meals.
Morning and night you have to listen them talking about them all the time.
We where to shy to let them know.
We are not there to find new friends. They dont respect the peoples when they imposed there compagny like that.
They could organised a nice table for a romantic meal in front of the nature with birds all around...
We never saw that in a Bed & Breakfast all around the world.
They dont rent the place for other then you and all the attention is on you...If you are shy dont go there...It's not easy at all...
It's a romantic place but you dont feel relax, except in your room or around the nice pool but be quiet and make Love without noise.
The worst part is to support the tension when he cook...Ouf !!!
We feel very unconfortable and sad ,and dont understand why he continue to do that if it's to hard for him...
The owner told us the first night, that he's very tired to do this business and just feel to return in London."If I can I will leave the place now"
It's true because we feel the tension all the time...So sad to continue when the love is not there...
We are there to relax not to absorb the stress of the owner who is always around us.
They have to stop to receive peoples if it's to much for them.
We give a lot of money and leaved the place with a lot of deceptions and full of tensions inside of us...
Sorry to be honest, but sometimes the hard words arrived as a gift to help the peoples who dont realised what's going on...
Money is not the only important thing in life...Your healt is more precious...Godbless you...Take care of you before the life decided for you

Sorry you did not enjoy your time with us..I would suggest to future guests that if you are not happy with what might be conceived as an esoteric experience you might talk to us so that we can make your stay as enjoyable as possible. If this means finding something more suitable we will be only too happy to help. We deliberately do not have a deposit so that you can change your mind at any time and pay only for what you have received. Meals are optional and I am surprised at their response to the meals as taking 5 out of 7 would suggest the price and high quality of the food justified partaking of them despite the company, the lack of romance and tension whilst cooking. Given the amount of emails exchanged prior to the visit and the details in the description of the house which show clearly what the house is like, and especially the video I am surprised at the comments about privacy which we respect both for ourselves and our guests.

Vancouver, BC CanadaNo other place to stay in Tobago!

I have been meaning to write a review of Mark and Zena Puddy's Mt Pelier Cottages for sometime now especially as I have been back four times over the last year! Having said that, you can well imagine I love their place. If you need all the 5 star amenities e.g: A/C, valet parking etc then this is not your holiday destination. But if you need excellent hosts more than willing to give you 5 star attention and recommendations plus great food all in a superb setting and relaxed ambiance, then this is the place for you. Mark and Zena make everyone welcome; children, teenagers and adults of all ages!. Breakfast included should not be missed as apart from being served a gourmet meal, you'll be seated in front of an open-air aviary and marvel at their bird residents. If you need to relax more, there is a secluded verandah adjoining each room, a plunge pool to refresh in and at dusk refreshing sundowners.

The ideal place to explore tobago from. Exceptional hosts Zena and Mark were one step ahead of us throughout and went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable time. The Food was fantastic with one of the best breakfasts I have ever had not to mention the epic dinner and drinks that awaited us every evening. The rooms stunning and Marks craftsmanship is evident throughout.
If you want an incite in to t&t; culture Zeena is a mine of information and fascinating stories about life on the islands as well as being a true Steel Pan and Calypso enthusiast. Mark is equally engaging and interesting with an unrivalled knowledge of the secret walks through the rainforests many trails and waterfalls as well as the islands plethora of little beaches and mangrove swamps. -

ZurichHello
Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I stayed at Zena and Mark's this July. They served great authentic Tobagonian / Trini food for both breakfast and dinner, the ingredients were local and fresh, and both cook with flair. Over dinner, or a glass of Rum Zena's stories of playing Mas, going to di Cricket, or her many Calypso related anecdotes are as fresh and authentic as the food served. Mark with his slightly more cynical wit is a true gent and wonderful host.
Besides being good drinking partners, Mark and Zena are enthusiastic and helpful advisers. For example pointing us in the right direction when going off to explore either island of Trinidad and Tobago. (By this I mean suggesting places to visit, checking ferries, scooter hire, or in our case even lending us a car for the evening).
If you are looking for something besides a typical caribbean hotel or guest-house, then Scarborough cottage rentals is definitely worth looking up. -

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tobago! Waking up to birds and breakfast, having a relaxing day or an adventurous one depending on your preference is always an option and finishing with a delicious dinner that is more than just a meal is the best part! Mark and Xena are gracious hosts will make sure your stay is incredible!

St Egreve, FranceThe utlimate tropical nature experience
Left on 07/30/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Imagine you're looking for peace and quiet, a little haven to enjoy nature in its every form. You want the warmth of the tropics, cool, shady surroundings. Your temporary abode must be just right: comfortable, aesthetic, exquisite cooking, great conversation - a total nature family holiday. I've been able to experience it all ever since my children were 12, 9 and 4 years old (now 21, 18 and 13 and still visit, with or without parents). From their first stay at Mark and Zena's, this destination became a must : at Easter, Christmas or during the July/August break. The early morning visits from the various species of birds who seemed to find that the wooden treehouse was no different from their own wooded leafy homes, gave me the feeling that I had my own personal winged friends dropping in for a little 'chit-chat' : the stately, silent "mot-mot", the chirpy "banana quits", the "silver beaked tanager" (and more). On evenings, the peace would often be shattered by the very boisterous calls of the "cocoricoes" chasing around madly, temporarily drowning our lively conversations as we sat around the imaginatively designed pool, sipping a glass of some chilled tropical drink. Then, as you leave the main refectory area to go to your room, if you look up, you can take in the stars; or if you wander a few paces up the steps leading to the empty road and look out towards the port of Scarborough... what a night view! The perfect get-away-from-it-all!

Oslo, NorwayBeautiful, relaxing and welcoming atmosphere
Left on 07/27/2012 for a stay in August 2005
Beautiful beautiful cottages set on a hill overlooking the Scarborough harbour, shaded by numerous trees, almost hidden from civilization yet within easy access to a quantity of beaches as well as the Scarborough city centre, this is an ideal location for a quiet relaxing holiday. In addition, the overwhelming sense of nature emanating from the surroundings will be both entertaining (seeing two birds fight for their morning breakfast set out by Mark) and relaxing (I remember a lovely breeze while I was relaxing with Jane austen on one of the porches). Mark and Zena are simply the best at making you feel at home: from delicious breakfasts to tasteful dinners, long lively conversations and simply a very welcoming atmosphere. I have spent many a holiday with Mark and Zena, enjoying the various rooms, the animated conversations, the lovely pool (one of the newest additions to the property!) and the delightful meals (Yorkshire Pudding! And the infamous Cinnamon Bread at breakfast and Zena's tasteful curry!). The original and imaginative wooden design of the cottages adds a touch of personality to the place and definitely complements the hospitable atmosphere. And if ever you need to explore Tobago, you also have, in your host, a wonderful guide to the best river and waterfall hikes of Tobago, with great knowledge of the island's history and geography, as well as little funny anecdotes of the location you are visiting. This place is just wonderful, and should be shared with friends to add to the great company, you wouldn't want to leave...

CASCADE, TRINIDAD & TOBAGOAt home within nature.
Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in June 2009
The tree house is one of Tobago's best kept secrets. Set back from a picturesque hilltop drive descending a simple flight of stairs reveals cosy cottages with quaint rustic features. It's constantly cool and breezy which makes for great relaxing and the beautifully tiled giant bathtub pool is equally refreshing. The bedrooms are comfortable complete with ever practical mosquito nets so your peaceful sleep is never disturbed. It has all the amenities you would want and all the beauty of nature around. Mark and Xena really go out of there way to make you feel like family and his restaurant like cooking and baking can stir the senses. His cinnamon bread has a sweet and warm way of waking you up just in time to see the birds enjoying their breakfast. If you ever feel like venturing out he is more than happy to take you around on a good few hikes to waterfalls and along rivers. It's a great eco adventure. Trust me, you are going to want to stay longer.

Set amongst trees this is a magical place - close to nature and yet luxurious. The rooms have been beautifully designed - our room had its own balcony and view of the forest, making it completely private. Comfortable beds, a perfect climate and sounds of the forest made this a very relaxing saty and the en-suite bathroom had hot water at all times. Mark and Zena are the most friendly and generous hosts you will find and the food was an added bonus. A dip in the pool at sunset with an aperetif is the perfect way to end a day. This wonderful wooden 'tree house' is also close to the markets of Scarboro and beaches along the coast. Thanks Mark and Zena for creating such a beautiful and welcoming place - I didn't want to leave and will most certainly be back!

Mark and Zina are attentive hosts to your every need. Mark cooked and served us lovely breakfasts and dinners with homemade drinks and appetizers. He picked us up at our location and later dropped us off into town so we could explore and the airport. Mark led us on an adventure hike up a river in the rainforest to a water falls with a few other folks. He provided a wonderful lunch as well. The imaginative rooms are on a hillside over looking some woodlands with interesting bird life that visit their feeders. We liked the open-air design of the house and the wonderful hospitality.
