Albany, OR, United StatesVery comfortable house.
Left on 03/30/2013 for a stay in March 2013
The house was very easy to stay in and was well stocked with amenities. The view was gorgeous and a great deck. Just a couple small things would make it better.
1. Numbers on the garage. Trying to find it at night was very difficult. Can't see the sign on the house at night!
2. There are two paths to the beach. The closest is to the North. Psycho path (with a sign marking it). It is pretty steep and slick.
3. The second path is further and to the South. Go down Huckleberry Rd. When you come to the end of a wire fence, you will see path runs down to beach beside a house with shingles. It is easier than psycho path - but, please be aware if you have anyone in your group with limited mobility - it still is not an easy path. Very steep steps in the middle and muddy areas with loose boards. Our group had no issues, but anyone with mobility issues will have a difficult time.
The neighborhood was quiet and very comfortable. The beds were comfortable and so was the furniture in the living room. Bring your own games/puzzles/books. Thank you for sharing your house!Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC - 03/30/2013

We visited this home with friends and our dogs. I loved that one bedroom did not have carpet. It was great to go onto the back porch after being on the beach and towel dry them off and there was a door that kept them from running on the carpet until I dried them. Clearer directions to the beach access would be great.

This property is beautifully situated with fantastic ocean views. Beach access is limited to folks up for a hike. Bring ingredients if you plan on cooking, the house only has salt and pepper. Overall you cannot ask for a more relaxing, quiet, wonderful stay. We highly recommend it and intend to come back.

Great experience on the coast. Lovely spot, well-equipped, quiet, nice view. Bayshore rentals went out of their way to accommodate us after a personal emergency postponed our holiday. I would recommend this to any group of 6 or fewer.

We really enjoyed our stay. House was clean and well stocked with kitchenware. Watched whales from the porch. Tidepools a mile away. Enjoyed the sandy beach in front of the house. The ocean view is wonderful and relaxing. A great place if you want to be close to activities, yet not in the crowds and noise and traffic of a town.

This was our 2nd stay at Bertelsen's Barracks. They allow pets, this is why we rented it in the first place. But it is a wonderful place to stay. It is very relaxing, most everything that you need is already there, so you can just play on the Or. coast & relax at the end of the day in a nice house with a fantastic view.

Our stay was great — we've been going to the house for over 25 years (before it was a Bayshore rental). My only disappointment was/is the cleaning expectation when you leave. We pay a good size cleaning fee to rent the house so I was shocked and somewhat surprised at the list of "To-Do's" when you leave the house, on the refrigerator. It seems over the top! Wash the towels, strip the beds, wash all dishes, and do more laundry if the washer is free again. I think the list should be doing the dishes only — that's acceptable.
Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC - 10/17/2011

Gosh, all we ask is that you start a load of towels, empty the garbage, and load the dishwasher. I am not sure where or what you were reading.

The toilet and shower were not clean when we arrived. I cleaned it. The kitchen needs help - the lighting is bad (appears to be new but is very dark in there) and the pans need to be replaced. We bought a frying pan we could use. Would be nice to have a baking sheet. It is a nice location with a great view. Comfortable home to vacation in.

Our bedroom was a converted garage that was musty and cold (heater worked sporadically), yard man came at noon on Saturday and all we could hear was his weed eater while we were trying to relax and listen to the waves, antagonistic notes posted at property...I could go on but I won't.

2nd time in this home. We enjoy area, view and deck a lot. The main living area smelled like pet urine. It was really strong when we had to turn on the heater at night. Last year when we stayed we had the same smell, probably a bit stronger. It would be better if there was tile in the main living area instead of carpeting...? We also love the set up of the home. My mother had her own suite. We probably will try another home the next time we come to the coast.

Left on 04/06/2010 for a stay in April 2010
The view from this home cannot get any better! And the short wake down to a very interesting beach is nice; it’s more of a rocky beach over a large expanse of sand but you can find many more interesting things on this beach!
Bertelsen’s Barracks is much nicer then a hotel/motel room!

Salem, OregonThe View from Bertelsen's Barracks Goes On and On
Left on 01/20/2010 for a stay in January 2010
The title says it all. Good weather or bad - nothing spoils the view inside the house or out on the deck. The view west seems to be endless (watch for whale spouts!) as does north and south. The view is followed up by the house having WIFI. As much as we like to 'get away from it all', being connected for email, a little (school) work or connect with friends (Facebook) there is never any issue with getting on. Our third reason, we can bring our woof. It is pet friendly and has a nice neighborhood walk for her (of course being a responsible pet owner!). The downsides...cell phone usuage is not, so be sure and give a family member the house phone so if needed for an emergency - a phone call can be made. Another small downside, the write up says queen beds in the two rooms - pretty small queens or hefty fulls. The beds are very comfortable, but if you're sharing be sure you like to be cozy in bed! We also notice little things like the dishwasher is very quiet! The furniture is very comfy and easy to take a nap on! The kitchen lighting, while plenty in the ceiling, the wattage could be higher - it's like they are dim - we relied on the under cupboard lighting to prepare meals. Will we stay again? ABSOLUTELY. Oh, and the Bayshore staff - what a pleasure to work with them! We've rented for several years and several different houses and have never been disappointed with a house or getting help with the staff - they are terrific (and can help find the 'perfect' house)!
