Welcome to Suite Shagalicious. Live for a time like you’re on the set of Madmen in 800 square feet of authentic, midcentury modern style, all part of a 1958 custom-built home by Swedish-born designer, Martin Ollas. This spacious, open-concept studio apartment is set to sleep you, and up to 2 others, in total comfort and style.

Proud with pedigree, Suite Shagalicious is a jewel within the showcase home praised for its architectural style and interior design chops, appearing in a full-feature layout for Seattle Times’ Pacific NW Magazine.

Punctuated with original art and furnished with a mix of modern and period designer pi...eces, The Shag is a skillful blend of the iconic past and all the modern upgrades one would expect in a contemporary boutique vacation rental setting. Well-appointed eat-in kitchen, defined living and sleeping areas, full-service laundry room, private bathroom and shower, and a luxurious, wrap-around, wood-burning fireplace all located on one floor, no stairs. The wonderful advantage of this layout is everything centers on the fireplace and the HD Satellite TV to enjoy from both the bed, and the sofa.

Speaking of comfort, we receive many accolades for our king size, memory foam, Bragada bed. Outfitted with 4 pillows; 2 Pacific Coast down (no goose feathers, here) and 2 memory-foam, this bed is one of luxury rarely available even at high-end hotels.

The additional traveler in your party will enjoy the suites’ American Leather Comfort Sleeper, a sofa that opens to a Double bed featuring an exclusive memory foam mattress on a platform foundation. This sleeper is the industry standard, guaranteed to provide a superb nights’ sleep without springs. No fear of losing coin flips, here!Of particular value is the advantage of private outdoor living space that comes as a bonus with the suite rental. The outdoor areas live like that of a full-sized home thanks to the professional talents of landscape architect, Brooks Kolb and Tallar Landscaping & Construction. A gorgeous, well-lit, private entry and serene, modern water feature greet you at the front door. The water feature placement ensures it can be seen from the kitchen and heard through the open window to wonderful effect. The single-light back door opens to a private, all-season, covered cedar porch for magnificent sunset views over the Puget Sound and snow-capped Olympic peaks. The sea air here is remarkable. And beyond the porch lays a gated courtyard for BBQ’s and other private-use enjoyment. Past the gate is a fire bowl for campfire-style entertainment during summer-season…toasted marshmallows, anyone? There’s no shortage of free, convenient street parking. The corner bus provides a 10-minute ride to Downtown, leaving every 20 minutes. Alki Beach and Fauntleroy Ferry are both 7-minute rides. Our location is only blocks to the California Junction and Farmer’s Market. With a walk to Morgan Street Junction shopping, drug store, convenience store, library, golf course, parks and church.

Two paintings of naked ladies on the wall should not have been hung when they knew a child was going to be in residence. I had to cover them with hand towels. Perhaps it is not a problem to some people, but not if there are children involved.
  There are no grocery stores or restaurants within walking distance. Unless you have a car, your out of luck for food. A bus is inconvenient to run to the grocery store. We had to walk 1 1/2 miles to the nearest grocery store, uphill. The only item for delivery is pizza.

  There are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby to walk to. This makes your stay very inconvenient if you do not have a vehicle.The unit was very clean, but old. My nine year granddaughter was upset with the two paintings of naked ladies in the hallway. I had to cover them with hand towels. Also, we had problems with large spiders (size of a fifty cent piece) that would come out at night. I would not recommend this unit to anyone else.

  Owner response: 1) Our home is under year-round contract with a professional pest control company where it continues to be regularly serviced, since 2006. 2) Our home is a classic 1958, midcentury modern, custom-build, and as such, retains a balance of original character and tasteful renovation with all modern up-grades. A March 2013 issue of Seattle Times' Pacific NW Magazine published a full-length feature article highlighting our rental suite and praising our home. This architecturally focused publication does not extend valuable coverage to "old" properties. 3) We do not have images of "naked ladies" on our premises. We display original art; lithographs and oils on par with the artistic nature of the culture in which we live. These are abstract figural works which are not realistic and should not be interpreted as such. 4) Just yards from a major bus line, our location is in the West Seattle neighborhood of the City of Seattle. We are within a 1/2 mile walking distance to Morgan Street Junction; a shopping hub where restaurants, major grocery store, coffee shops, retailers and services are conveniently located.

  We love The Shag! We have stayed at The Shag twice a year for extended periods of time for the past 5 years. We walk to the grocery store, Starbucks, the library, Enterprise car rental, the main shopping area, The Junction, and to Lincoln Park. The owners keep this apartment sparkling clean.   Suite Shagalicious is in a great location for my Seattle needs. I come out to visit my daughter and her family. I can walk to her very small house or catch the 22 bus to her house or into downtown Seattle. My first impression walking in was this looks like a great (New) Jersey shore summer rental! The suite was wonderfully clean. I found Suite Shagalicious a very comfortable place to stay. I appreciated the availability of a washer and dryer. I will be back!

  we stayed at the Shag for six nights, during one of Seattle's heat waves, so were happy that the Shag stayed cool even during the hottest part of the day. The Shag was clean, quiet, spacious for a studio, and the owners thought of many conveniences and comforts. West Seattle was great for exploring and getting downtown via car and bus, so if we ever need to stay in Seattle again, we hope the Shag will be available!

  This is a great place to stay, and a place we will easily stay at again. It was clean, nice, and you could tell that the owners truly cared about whether you had everything you need. The kitchen was full of things to use to help you cook, the laundry was ready for you to use including soap. The whole apartment/suite was put together nicely. The location was wonderful. West Seattle is a neat part of town with lots of interesting shops and great restaurants and bakeries. Staying at the suite made our whole trip better than if we would have stayed at a hotel.   We found the Shag-a-licious after much searching for a place to stay in West Seattle while visiting relatives. The rental agency was VERY prompt and responsive and so we booked "The Shag" for our 3 night stay. We were so very pleased with the "home away from home". The place was immaculate and the decor was so much fun - it took us back to our childhood!!!! Understand that this is not a hotel and that cleaning up after ones self is expected, but we did not mind. It was nice to have a hideaway that provided more comfort and space than a hotel room. We will most surely return to the Shag-a-licious on future West Seattle visits.

  For mass-transit supporters who love the idea of visiting Seattle without the expense of renting a car, this property is located just 1 block from a bus line that will drop you off right in the heart of downtown Seattle in about 15 minutes. Buses run frequently all day long.

  Here on a work trip where the assumption was I'd stay in one of the big downtown hotels, but saw this place and am so pleased I booked it up instead. My only worry was that travel into the centre would be difficult, but getting in from The Shag is really easy. A bus stop about a 100m away and one simple trip gets you to the centre. Added to which at the Shag you get great views, a very comfortable, well equipped apartment (the Wi-Fi was also useful for keeping in touch) and a perfect base for hiring a car to explore the Seattle area. Highly recommended!

  We loved staying in a residential neighbourhood, out of the city. The number 21 bus from outside Walgreens is just $2, and takes about 20 minutes to get downtown. The Shag was perfect for the 3 of us - I'm assured the sofa bed was very comfy, and the double was awesome! Wish we'd had a bit longer there. DVD collection was a great bonus, the shower was lovely and the neighbourhood was real quiet. Wish we'd had a little longer there - I don't have enough good things to say about this place!

  We were delightfully surprised by the clean, festive retro decor, friendly hosts and perfect location. It was nice to have some surprise extras also such as a full 3 wk. supply of coffee, plenty of linens/pillows, games/videos & laundry supplies. Also, it was nice to have information about local restaurants & attractions and even bus schedules. All these details did not go unnoticed as we were assured that our comfort was our hosts' primary concern. We'll definately be staying here again next time we're in Seattle.

  We really enjoyed our stay. West Seattle is the perfect location away from the crowds. You can pop on the Water Taxi accross Elliot Bay to get Downtown. Would recommend having a car to get to and from the property and get around generally, but boy is it worth it. Really lovely.

  This place was fabulous! It is located within minutes from the beach, shopping, and of course the best coffee in Seattle(Cafe Ladro). We had a great time, the unit was very clean and the decor was fun too. We would reccommend it to anyone.

  Delicious stay at Suite Shagalicious

  The Suite was much roomier than we expected. I stayed on the pull out couch, which was a bit hard, but once I put the sleeping bag down first, under the sheet, it was quite comfortable. The property was just two blocks away from our friend's house on W 38th, which was perfect for us. We loved the decor, the patio and everything about our stay. There were even umbrellas for us to use!

  My 3-night stay was very pleasant. Because I was in West Seattle to visit my daughter who lives in an apartment within blocks of this property, it was the perfect location. I was not able to spend much time in the Shag-a-licious, mostly just the nights; however, I would definitely return to this lovely space.

  Okay but problems with getting in

  I reserved this property for friends visiting from out of town. The location was fine for them and it seemed clean. Two problems: The code for entering the property had been changed recently and we hadn't been notified. My friends arrived there late at night, couldn't get in, tried the emergency phone number, and got an answering machine. Fortunately, the owner showed up later with the correct code, just before I was about to take them either to the only hotel in the area - a crummy one - or to my house which was not at all set up for guests. Also, one friend slept on the sofa bed but wasn't all that happy with it.

  We loved it! It was spotlessly clean, creatively decorated and inviting, had lots of room, great laundry room. A wonderful bed and well-stocked kitchen. It was the best place we've ever stayed. James and Sabrina, the owners were so helpful. They were delightful to talk with but they left us alone, unlike some landlords we've stayed with before.

  I had the most amazing vacation in West Seattle and have fallen in love with the area. I would absolutely and without hesitation recomend the shag a licious studio. It is most deffinately a home away from home and I was very sad to leave (after tagging on extra days because I loved it soo much). The owners are amazing and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and the attention to detail is amazing! If you want somewhere different from the usual hum drum rentals then this is the place for you. I will be returning for sure and recomend this studio. Once you stay there you will want to return again and again!! The 5 stars do not do it justice, believe me!!

  We were in town for my BFF's wedding. Being in the wedding we were not going to have the time to not have the amenities ie, an iron, coffee pot etc. We were so set back that we did not need anything!! The comfort and cleanliness was super. The area of town was perfect and it was so nice to have some quiet. The TV was fabulous and to have internet was such a PLUS. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic getaway.

  This is a very great place to stay. It was very warm and homey with excellent accommodations. It's a perfect cozy, romantic getaway for 2 people. The bed slept great and the linens were excellent. We loved the decor. Great location to West Settle shopping area and a short drive into Seattle proper.

  Artsy place, Great shower, we asked for a grill and they provided it, we asked to pet their cat and they brought her over,starter soap,paper towels, etc. provided, VERY CLEAN, perfect size for 2, the only downside for me was no dishwasher as this is my most hated household chore. We enjoyed it and would recommend it, I thought the decor was fun, well thought out, and not over the top and not "over the top."

  Mom and I needed a place to stay while waiting for my sister to have her baby. (her home was too small for all of us). Shag-a-licious was only 2 miles away and within walking (jogging) distance to a library, Bikram yoga and shopping on California Ave! Our stay was in mid-winter so the fireplace was wonderful! Was so nice to have a washer and dryer to use any time! Very cute, clean place! Terri R. from Tucson (not Tuscon).

  The "Shag Suite" is our second home when we come to visit our grandkids in Seattle. We have stayed there 3 times and it is getting better each time. Sabrina (the owner) continues to upgrade the apartment and the property. We recommended it to our son-in-laws parents and they enjoyed it as much as we have. The next time we are in Seattle I'm sure we will have another "Shag-a-licilous" stay.

  Memories are of the Shag-a-licous Suite

  Some our fondest memories of Seattle are because of the Shag-a-licous Suite. It was so kitchy and fun to be in. The owners really though through every detail of decor making sure to include all the necessities we wanted but in a fun and unique way. We loved having the extra space to move around, do laundry, free parking and a kitchen to keep eating expenses low. We took tons of photos in Seattle, but get the most mileage from the one's we took of the Shag-a-licous Suite. Our friends can't believe it until we show them how cool it was.
