What Past Guests Are Saying
Felt like home
Our family really enjoyed the stay, the house was very well kept with all the essential items. They made sure we were equipped with all the necessary items even in kitchen. I was impressed with the safety provided for young kids including the making the power sockets child safe and necessary items for kids. It's was a very cozy and nice stay and will definitely recommend for staying here. Mike and Shelly were really nice to communicate with. Thanks for a beautiful stay. We also absolutely loved the view from the dining area.
We stayed for almost a week in January and found the place ample (for 3 of us). The included wifi and cable were a big plus, and the heater was very effective. Plenty of dining space and the kitchen had everything we needed. The furnishings and layout have a nice craftsman feel, just like in the photos. On-street parking worked fine with the pass that came with the place -- it was really no problem. The farthest we had to park was maybe a half block away on the weekend.
It's a student neighborhood, so expect a little noise on Thursday nights through the weekend. There are tenants upstairs and below as well.
You can't beat the view, which is especially lovely at sunrise.
Extremely well equipped and very comfotable ground floor of a substantial house. furnishings are way above the usual rental standard. Ideally located for us - 5 minutes walk to UW campus where our son is studying this year. Although it's not in the information booklet there are bus stops in the parallel street which will take you into Seattle and back.
Street waa a bit noisy at night - the downside of the nearness of student accommodation I suppose. Street parking not always easy - the first night we spent ages trying to find a spot.
stunning views from the kitchen and dining room - especially the sunrises
Enjoyable and convenient
We enjoyed our stay and the location was great. We were close to UW for a football game and close to freeways for visiting in the city. Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. The house is charming and had everything we needed.
Exploring Seattle and UW
We loved staying in this rental home! The house itself is beautiful. This is a lovely craftsmen home. There is a beautiful view out the back. The house fit our needs perfectly. We always found parking, although sometimes it was down a few blocks from the house. The location of the house was great! We could walk to the University of Washington. It only took us 15 to 20 minutes to drive down to Seattle to visit the museums and the pikes market. We had a wonderful time and wished we could stay another week. Our only complaint was that we had trouble getting the oven to work properly and ended up burning everything we tried to bake in it. When we stuck to the stove, we could cook.
Response from Mike and Shelley Miksis - 10/22/2011
Thanks for the very nice review. We are very sorry about the challenges with the stove. We love the classic look of the stove but we realize we are probably not providing all the functionality of a modern stove. We actually have a new stove arriving within the next few weeks.

A quiet home with a great view
The home was very clean, and the neighborhood was located close to everything we needed. A very kittchy place that was comfortable and inviting.
Great location, great stay
I traveled to Seattle with my 9 month old, my husband and father-in-law. We were a bit surprised that the rental is actually the main floor of a house that has two other renters on separate levels. However, we never even knew other people were there. Our stay was clean and comfortable. Mike was excellent, prompt and courteous to deal with. And the location near UW can't be beat! We would stay there again.
Late Summer in Seattle
We had a very nice stay. The house is pretty and has plenty of room for a family. Plus, it's filled with natural woodwork and has tastefully updated bedrooms and bath. Really quite nice. The linens, blankets, etc. were of excellent quality and super clean, as were the bedrooms and bath (the bookshelf in the living room was dusty, though).
The location is fine--convenient, slightly under the radar for travelers, though not as upscale or polished as parts of other residential areas like Ballard and Fremont.
Mike did a great job setting us up for the visit, with clear instructions about the house and prompt, professional and kind communications via email. For example, the internet was not working when we arrived. I left Mike voicemail and he repaired it immediately.
It's a nice place to stay, especially for a family that wishes to experience Seattle's neighborhoods.
Anniversary Visit to USA
We had a wonderful time in a very good location. My husband lived in Bellevue, Seattle almost 30 years ago and he enjoyed viisitng all the places he visited all those years ago - Snoqualmie Falls and lots of othe wonderful places.
Great place to celebrate UW Graduation
We booked the University View house for the weekend of the University of Washington graduation.
We had a terrific time, the house was perfect, just as described on the site.
Saturday night we had a barbecue (whole salmon from Metropolitan Market) and we hosted a large group very comfortably. We used the every part of the house, the outdoor furniture grouping, the grill which Michael filled with propane, the dining room for the buffet and the very comfortable living room for conversation.
The bathroom is very nicely remodeled, the kitchen is efficiently done and the bedrooms comfortable with well outfitted closets.
The bonus is that we were walking distance to the campus and the U District.
Everyone loved the house and I highly recommend it.
A Great Experience
This is the perfect place to stay when visiting Seattle. It is located within blocks from the University, shopping and yes, even a couple Starbucks. The bus stop is within a block away and a short trip to downtown.
We loved being able to cook meals in the spacious kitchen over the 7 days we were there. The beds were very comfortable, the bedrooms were spacious and had plenty of closet space for hanging our clothing.
What a great experience!
Spacious, comfortable, clean
We found the home clean, comfortable, spacious, and it held everything we needed for an extended stay of 8 days. It is conveniently located close to shopping, the University of Washington, Magnuson Park, and Woodland Park Zoo. Easy freeway access to anywhere you want to go. Overall one of our best stays away from home. We will stay again on our next trip to the area, if available.
Coeur d'Alene, ID
Great for those who need to be close to UW
University View House was a great choice for us. We needed a place to call home base while my father underwent surgery at the UW Medical Center. The owners were very accommodating to our needs. They were responsive with every question via email.
The home is an older, vintage home. We felt comfortable and the house was spacious. The only noticeable issue was that as an older home, it has an older home smell. It was not in any way bothersome -- just noted. The house was immaculately clean. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom looked newly remodeled and fresh.
I can't say enough good things about this home. It was perfect for our situation.
great value, pleasant and comfortable
perfect location, lots of room, well prepared and organized, easy to access.
beware the red paint on the curb across from the house for parking tickets.

Great house, awesome view, perfect location
Wow! What a great view!
Comfortable, convenient, well appointed.
The owner a pleasure to work with.
We will be back!

A home away from home
My friend and I stayed at University View House while on exchange at the University of Washington. The house is spacious, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The central heating, wireless internet, well equipped kitchen and cable TV made it easy to feel at home here. Your every need has been anticipated and no request was too much trouble for the landlords, who by the way are very respectful of your privacy during your stay. The view truly is amazing, the photos don't lie! And the beds are very comfortable, I had no problems getting a great nights sleep. A short walk to the U-Village shopping centre, supermarkets, a gym and many bus stops, University View House is a great place to base yourself in Seattle.
Convenient and well-cared-for home from home
Stayed here while in Seattle for a week. Home had everything we needed. Was cozy and warm during very cold weather. Thank you!

A pleasant vacation in Seattle
A very beautiful old house with extraordinary view over the valley of University district. Two roomy bedrooms with lots of space for clothes. A spacious living room with plenty of place for activities. High standard overall. Nice and calm area for walking. Close to many buss lines.

A Great Place to Stay To Visit the University of Washington
University View House is very comfortable and spacious with lots of character - hardwood floors, woodwork, a fireplace. There is an excellent view from the dining room and kitchen. It took us less than ten minutes to walk to the campus. It is also convenient to I-5 and the other parts of the city we visited. This is a great choice if you want the feel of living in a real neighborhood close to UW.
Lovely house in a great location. Spacious living room and dining area as well as very, very comfortable beds. The portable crib and high chair were greatly appreciated! Fast and gracious communication with the owners along with a prompt return of our deposit. Thank you for a great rental!
It fit our needs perfectly!
We were very impressed with the charm, comfort and all the amenities this home was equiped with. It worked perfectly for us - as we were here for our son's wedding and gave us the opportunity to entertain family and friends during the week of events. The kitchen was very well equiped and stocked with all the basic necessities and then some. It was so well organized as far as checking in, instructions on all the equipment - heating, TV, internet, etc. The beds were very comfortable and the view is really wonderful. The only drawback for us was the parking - we couldn't alway find a place nearby to park.
Perfect House in U-district
Great location: easy to get around, quiet street, beautiful views out of the back of the house
Very comfortably and thoughtfully furnished
everything we needed was on hand, even wifi
Only downside: we needed more coat hangers! Other than that, this was a perfect stay.
Great Place for Family to Gather
University View was perfect for our family vacation in Seattle. The house had a well equipped kitchen, lovely dining and living rooms and comfortable bedrooms. Thoughtful details like Seattle guides, games and laundry detergent really made us feel at home. We came during a heat wave and Mike brought us fans to make our stay even more comfortable. Very central location. We'll choose this home again when we come back to visit family.
great place to experience Seattle
We stayed there for a whole week and ejoyed it very much. Communication bfore our viit was always quick, friendly and reliable. We were greeted by the landlord himself and everything proofed as promised. The University View House is perfect for a group of four and very good for five adults. The house offers everything you need.
A lovely home with great amenities
The University house lived up to expectations in all areas except for the house next door which was under tarps! In all other ways the house was delightful. Beautifully restored and maintained with plenty of space for all of us, four adults and two children. We could walk to the University Village shopping centre and get some exercise walking back up the stairs! The kitchen was very well equipped with excellent appliances and accoutrements. I would recommend this house to my friends and hope to come back and stay again in the future.
My parents thought I was very clever to find this house. So much nicer than a hotel... able to have meals that we cooked rather than always eating out (although there are some great options for eating out!) Enjoyed sitting on the porch in the mornings with coffee and evenings with wine, even when a little rainy. Really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back. Thanks for all!
Buenos Aires, Argentina
excellent stay in seattle!!
Everything was perfect. Mike is very protective and attentive. the house was perfectly furnished, view and location are excellent.
Will return in a couple of months
Beautiful View right in the University District
My buddy and I needed a place to crash in order to work on our graduate
degree thesis. This was a wonderful spot close to University of Washington,
Seattle Pacific and Northwest University. We needed to get library access
and this was perfect.
The home had great character. It was clean and comfortable. It had
everything we needed to hunker down and study, including wireless
internet. The internet was a bit spotty initially but we got it figured out and
we're off and running.
Our only two minor bummers was that the home next door was being
remodeled and it had a large tarp that would flap in the wind and got loud.
Also, there are other renters below and above, which we were unaware of.
The individual(s) above would have the TV on loudly until 3ish each night.
But we loved the view and how close it is to shopping, The Ave and yet is on
a secluded street.
Response from Mike and Shelley Miksis - 06/21/2010
We take the term ‘vacation rental’ serious and our goal is to make everyone’s stay as relaxing as possible whether it is for business or pleasure. The last thing we want is anything that detracts from our guests’ stay with us. We are very sorry about the noise from the TV. To hopefully eliminate this from ever occurring again, we just finished remodeling the downstairs apartment to minimize any noise that carries through the house. (5/2010)
Perfect for Thanksgiving in Seattle
We stayed in University View House over Thanksgiving. Meals with a dozen dear relatives went fine. The funky old electric stove served like a champ. Only slight drawback was that we felt bad about disturbing the guy in the other appartment.
I've had a dozen or so short term rentals on houses all over the world and this one was the best appointed of them all.
All the negotiations with the owner were by email and all went well.
Stayed for Wedding
House was very clean. The owners were easy to deal
with and very accommodating. The beds were
comfortable, the house comfortable, the covered porch
was great. Great location - very easy to get to,
quick access to I-5 and 520. Only drawback: parking -
no assigned space, but usually pretty easy to find
and close in.
We had a great stay in "the cottage". We had a seafood feast both nights. The dining room area was perfect for it. It was rainy, as to be expected, but we still had a great visit.
3 Cs: Clean, Comfortable, Convenient
The University View House provided the perfect
accomodations for our party of 4 in a great
location in the heart of Seattle.
Clean: The house was recently renovated and thus
spotless. The two bedrooms were kept with
comfortable linens while the bathroom and kitchen
Comfortable: The common areas (living and dining
rooms) provided great spots for gathering, eating,
and conversation. The living room also had a
futon, making it possible for the house to
comfortably sleep up to 6 people. Despite being
located near the U of W, the neighborhood was still
Convenient: Bars and restaurants were only a 10
minute walk away; the Ballard Neighborhood was only
a 10 minute busride, and downtown was a $15 cab
ride. There was also a grocery stores in walking
distance, making it easy to fill your fridge.
Finally, the owners/operators of the property were
easy to work with and very helpful.
