Terre Haute, IN, United StatesPeaceful Oasis
Left on 02/16/2013 for a stay in January 2013
This was a beautiful house with the ideal layout for a family get-together. The big tv in the basement was perfect for the gamers and television watchers, while others gathered in the beautiful living room upstairs to talk by the fire. The master bedroom upstairs was a nice retreat. The house has a lovely atmosphere - peaceful. It was a wonderful place to stay.

Sausalito, Ca, United StatesDidn't meet expectations
Left on 01/03/2013 for a stay in January 2013
Although we managed to make the most out of our experience, we were disappointed with the Montlake property. First, there was a huge fly problem... probably due in part to the urban chicken coop next door. Second, the furnishings, decor and appliances were outdated. And, lastly, the ceilings in the basement were very low, which put that floor out of commission for our group. (Many of the people in our party are over 6 ft tall and couldn't stand upright due to the low ceilings.)

Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The Montlake Craftsmen Bungalow provided a perfect base for our family visit to Seattle; parks and a couple of restaurants within walking distance and easy to reach a fantastic supermarket ( QFC, beaches and all the downtown stores, museums, restaurants - you do need a car to stay in this house. The verandah and garden offered a peaceful pleasant resting place at the begining and ends of the day. The house is fully equipped for 'proper' cooking and laundry with plenty of space for family members to do their own thing. We particularly enjoyed the period features and furniture, our only adverse comment would be the lack of washing line ( for wet washing - Europeans are much more hesitant about using driers) and the air con in the master bedroom - a little noisy and difficult to adjust, but overall the instructions and guidance were very comprehensive.

This house is one of few that can accommodate more than 6 adults within 10 minutes of downtown. It's also walking distance from the UW, Arboretum, and Volunteer Park.
The house is a beautiful craftsman. If you enjoy old homes with character, this is a very interesting home with lots of nooks and crannies.
We didn't bring our kids this time, but I know they would have loved the big yards and the basement room - may plan a family trip for next time!Response from Sea to Sky Rentals - 07/24/2012

New YorkGreat, great, great!
Left on 08/07/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We stayed in the Montlake Bungalow for 6 weeks -- from late June to early august. My son had an internship at the UW Medical Center, which is a short bike ride away. This rental was a dream come true and a perfect fit for our needs.
There were four of us, and there was plenty of room. It is a cozy cottage with a lovely backyard in a quiet, charming neighborhood. It is two blocks walk from an organic, healthy (focus on gluten-free, etc.) market, two restaurants (one with delicious homemade pasta), a great coffee shop, a branch of the public library, and a dry cleaner -- all you need for the bare essentials if you don't have a car. Also, it is two blocks from a fantastic bike shop.
As you can probably tell, we rented bikes right away and used them to get around. My son biked easily back and forth to the University District. The rest of us used the bikes to access the Burke-Gilman trail (and, so, the University District (and a full-service, high-end outdoor mall "University Village"), Fremont, Ballard, etc.) as well as the very close (and gorgeous) arboretum. We also jogged in the arboretum which provided an opportunity to enjoy its wonderful and peaceful Japanese garden as well as picnics on the waterfront. Just gorgeous. To add even more convenience, the house is a couple of blocks walk from several bus routes, which we used lots to access downtown.
The house is comfortable and welcoming. It is not the height of luxury -- but it is clean, cozy, and comfortable -- a perfect fit for a family looking to relax. We used the kitchen every day, and the laundry facilities were very convenient. The media room is comfortable and fun. We loved the backyard and the deck, and made great use of the grill. My husband set up an office on the kitchen table -- the wireless wifi worked great.
This review wouldn't be complete without a big thank you to Sea to Sky. They were lovely to deal with and very responsive to our questions. For an additional cost, they provided weekly cleaning -- which was a godsend. Everyone we dealt with was lovely and helpful. It is not easy to find a short-term rental for a family in the University District. This is a treasure, and we would love to stay here again.
By the way, because we were in Seattle for 6 weeks, we were able to do a ton of fun stuff in Seattle and the environs. This really isn't the place to review those activities but, in short: we saw all the major sights of Seattle (Pike Place Market, Discovery Park, Space Needle, Pioneer Square, Elliot Bay, Ballard locks, the variety of picturesque neighborhoods, museums, music venues, etc.) as well as touring the phenomenal surrounding area (Cascades, Olympic Peninsula, British Columbia, San Juan Islands, etc.). This home is a great base for exploring everything. -

Had a good time at the house. My wife and I used it as a central location to explore Seattle. We wanted to stay out of downtown because we live in Miami Beach and wanted to see some trees and greenery. The house has a lot of little good surprises. We only went in two rooms of the house because we were out most of the time. Nice house and easy access to downtown.

Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in June 2011
the grass hadn't been mowed in a very long time...maybe 3 weeks.
We borrowed a neighbors lawnmower and mowed it ourselves.
Also, on the front porch, a portion of the top step cracked/broke from old age when we stepped on it.
The home is beautiful, walking through the neighborhood landscape was a field-trip in itself.
We will always have the fondest of memories of our family gathering there!
The word deposit made me think that if we left the home clean that we would be receiving a portion of the deposit money back, "that
is never the case" I was informed. Maybe the word should be changed to non-refundable cleaning deposit. It takes away the motivation to leave
the home in very good condition (even though we did do that). -

This place is well-maintained, tastefully decorated, located in what is surely one of Seattle's prime neighborhoods, and has a beautiful garden to boot! My large family of eight fit comfortably and enjoyed a stay to remember. From start to finish, the Sea to Sky process for renting their Montlake bungalow was easy and efficient. I have zero complaints and look forward to renting this or one of their other Seattle properties in the future.
You WILL be surprised at the spaciousness of this property! Pictures you've seen online don't do it justice. -

A few comments for suggested improvements:
1. Cold water faucet in shower on main floor is loose.

3. It would have been nice if the lawn was cut so we could use it - the weather was great.
4. Internet kept cutting out and we had to reboot the system.

We needed a place to stay for my PhD defense and found this place. The house was a little dirty when we arrived, but the interior was very comfortable. Though separated from the rest of the house by stairs, the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms do not have doors, so things going on elsewhere in the house could be heard from them. We enjoyed the deck when the weather was nice, and the location was perfect for our needs.

Left on 12/29/2008 for a stay in December 2008
We happened to be in Seattle during one of the biggest snow storms in 20 years, and found the property to be comfortable and accomodating for our family with three small kids. The yard was just littered with snow men by the time we departed. Just a small disappointment: Low Water pressure put a "damper" on a relaxing shower. Downstairs Bathroom heater did not work, so the bathroom was also very cold.
Don't be discouraged... this is a great house to relax in. -

Although we were gernally happy with the rental, and hope to visit again, we wanted to call your attention to the upstairs shower which should be replaced with a good mixing valve. It worked very poorly - water going from hot to cold while using. Probably does not pass code, and could be a liability for you.

We stayed at the bungalow for 1 week and it was a great place for our family. The downstairs bedroom had a cute playhouse and toys which our son loved. The media room was perfect for watching movies. The master suite on the top floor was very spacious. It is centrally located so it was easy to get downtown or the Eastside. The home decor was beautiful - hard to believe it was all left there for a rental - usually rentals have very plain furniture. This 'bungalow' could've easily accommodated 6 people comfortably (even though we only had 3). We also had to cancel our original trip due to a family emergency and the reservation staff was very understanding and allowed us to reschedule within a year.

the upstairs shower was unworkable. There was absolutely no water pressure, and the fixture to divert water from the faucet to the shower head worked very poorly, at best. Taking a shower, washing hair was an ordeal because there was just a bare trickle of water. The downstairs bathroom was better, but the water pressure was also poor there and the temperature varied widely during the shower. I contacted Sea to Sky after my stay to address with them, but never received a reply to my email.

Left on 07/18/2008 for a stay in July 2008
The Montlake Craftsman house worked out perfectly for our family group of ten, four kids and six adults. It was a great location for attending a wedding in the Wallingford area. The outside deck provided additional living space amidst flowers and berries in the back yard. We enjoyed exploring the Arboretum and Interlaken Park in the wonderful Montlake neighborhood.
The only room for improvement I would mention is the water pressure for taking showers was weak. This was particularly apparent when we we all trying to get ready for the wedding--not surprising for a charming older house. But everything else was great. The kitchen was well supplied with cooking implements. The house was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again if the need arose. Sea to Sky Rentals was very helpful when we got locked out of the house and sent someone right over to help us.
Beats a hotel in every way, anytime!!!! Especially when traveling with little ones.

Left on 04/27/2008 for a stay in August 2007
Several members of our family (including a baby)enjoyed the Craftsman Cottage while attending our son's wedding. Overall, the accomodations and the vist were very good. Only two recommendations for improvement. The tv downstairs did not work, apparenty because the previous visitor had pulled the cable oout of the wall. It could be easily repaired, but not while we were there. Only the upper level bedroon has an air-conditioner, and it is pretty weak. In August it was very hot. We were told that the house was air-conditioned, but that is really only partially true.

Idaho Falls, IDVery disappointed

We rented this for our family who were here for my grad school commencement. The property was dirty; there was a problem with the toilet & when we investigated we found a beer in the tank; there was one roll of toilet paper when we arrived for a week long stay for nine people, the door and balcony on the second floor was broken and rather than fix it there was a sign saying not to use it as it was unsafe and broken, the big screen television did not work in the media room-someone came out to fix it two days after we contacted you, yet it still would not work. I called after my family left to complain and was told I'd get a call back with some resolution and I never heard from anyone again. I will never use your service again and will advise others to avoid you. I could have forgiven all of the problems with the property if the response would have been different, but the service was absolutely non-existent. -Donna D.

We had never stayed in a VRBO before and when we opened the door, we were surprised at how lovely this home was - just beautiful. We will be staying there again in a few weeks!

Boston, MAPerfect!

We had a fantastic stay! We were five couples from all over the US who hadn't seen each other in a couple of years, in town for another friends wedding, so this was an ideal arrangement for us - staying in separate hotel rooms would not have been the same! Booking and paying was painless, the house was beautiful. I would highly recommend this home and Sea to Sky Rentals to anyone. Thank you!

Took family of 5 including 84 year old grandmother for week in Seattle to visit daughter at UW and to see Seattle and friends. Great location, privacy for everyone and good place to have friends over for dinner. Beautiful arboretum a short walk away, don't miss it/
