I spent 2 weeks at Lavender Cottage and, as I spend 2 weeks a year in Sonoma, plan to make it my home away from home from now on.

TorontoIdyllic cottage experience

Lavender Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with fantastic views overlooking Sonoma Valley - whether experiencing sunrise from your bed or sunset from the patio and hot tub! The fruit trees (fig, orange, apple, persimmon, etc.) were readily available for picking at breakfast and the proximity to wine country was great for day trips, including to the coast and Bodega Bay. Ideal getaway for couples, families or anyone wanting to avoid the crowds and enjoy nature!

This cottage was the perfect place to celebrate our vintage friendship, surrounded by beautiful gardens and with all the comforts of home. Once we got used to the windy roads - where we saw mule deer, turkey, quail, and other wild life - we easily made our way to the wineries in the Sonoma Valley, even a day in the Napa Valley, returning each day to our idyllic setting for a quiet dinner on the patio with a good bottle of local wine. It was a joy to watch the sun rise over the distant mountain range each morning.

Jacksonville, FL"Best week of my life..."
Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My wife and I visited the wine country to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and staying at the Lavender Cottage as home base could not have been any better. My bride said it was the best week of her life, and I would have to agree. We're already talking about a return trip.
We arrived at the cottage and were greeted by fresh flowers and wine kindly left for us by the owner. Every part of the cottage was perfect, and the views are amazing. Sitting on the patio, reading and sipping wine while occasionally watching the bees do their work among the flowers that surround the house was one of my favorite parts of the trip. And speaking of flowers, the gardens are gorgeous...blooms, vegetables, trees, and of course lavender as far as you can see. I could go on and on.
We recently put our trip photos together which gave us an opportunity to relive the experience; we have more pictures of the cottage and gardens than of any other parts of the vacation, including the various vineyards/wineries we toured. The only thing I'd change would be to schedule fewer activities so as to spend more time at the cottage! Again, staying at the Lavender Cottage was such a nice part of our celebration. We'd return in a heartbeat. -

We had to reschedule our original reservation for Lavender Cottage due to a death in the family and Brenda was very accommodating. Everything is as described and pictured on the website. Cottage is perfect for a couple, everything you need, clean and comfortable. The setting is the real star of the show, a secluded, sloping orchard/flower garden, very nicely landscaped, with great views of area highlands, and a hot tub. The orchard is alive with birds, bees, and when we were there in late august, fresh apples, blackberries and strawberries could be picked. Our only complaint was an occasional lack of privacy. One morning we heard lound voices outside and there were some maintenance workers running a chainsaw and weedeater and doing other work on the property, this went on for a few hours. Another day we were relaxing on the outdoor patio when the owners of the main house (which is a few hundred feet away) had a large group of guests come in, and they were given a tour of the property and came right down to our cottage to look around. Fortunately we weren't naked in the hot tub! I guess if you spend most of your time doing activities away from the cottage this won't matter so much, but prospective renters should be aware of this, you won't be completely alone all the time (so we've rated "Comfort" as average.)

New York, NYMagical place to stay
Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We had a wonderful time at the Lavender Cottage - in fact, we wished we hadn't booked so many things to do because all we wanted to do was hang out on the patio with the amazing view of Sebastopol with a book and a glass of wine! The gardens are incredible - we ate fresh fruit and used wonderful herbs to use on the grill. It's clean, comfortable, stunning and remote in the best possible way. A true gem! Thanks Brenda and Ken!

My husband and I celebrated our 50th anniversary here. What a treat! Brenda even had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. The cottage itself was beautiful and spotlessly clean. The views were magnificant and we loved being away from traffice noises yet close to restaurants/shops. The only thing not to love about Lavender Cottage is that you have to leave at some point.

My wife and I came up to Sonoma for a belated anniversary. The cottage was everything we wished for. Comfortable. Secluded. Peaceful. If you want excitement it's not the place. It is appointed with just enough things to be comfortable and cozy. The hot tub is a pleasant plus. All is there for a couple days of relaxation. There are plenty of great places to see, hike and eat at all within a day's roaming. Thank you Brenda. Lovely!

We stayed here for 3 nights while attending a graduation. Although I originally booked it as a bit of a romantic getaway, my FIL ended up coming with us . . . and the place easily accommodated us all. We loved being surrounded by fragrant herbs and fruit trees . . . though it was early May, there were some things already ripe, so we started the morning with fruit we picked ourselves. Lovely! The kitchen had everything you could need or want (except a juicer, but hey, that's asking a bit much). The bedroom was quite roomy, with a cute little window seat. If you're lucky, you might meet the unofficial canine greeter, "Little Bear,"come over for a belly rub. One piece of advice: it's a bit remote, so make sure you locate it before dark or you will get lost.

This is a beautiful cottage overlooking vineyards and redwoods for miles. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, the property is not only serene, but there is a garden right outside your front door with fresh herbs including chives, rosemary, basil, spearmint and others. The food is plentiful, every day I was able to pick citrus fruits, blueberries, strawberries, lettuce, Swiss chard and raspberries. The furnishings are beautiful, and you feel the comfort all around you. There is a Softub hot tub on the patio, making for spectacular sunrises each morning in the warmth of the jacuzzi. Location is great, 10 min to downtown Sebastopol, 5 minutes to Occidental, and about 20 minutes to the famous armstrong woods, and Bodega Bay.
