Washington, DCA perfect escape
Left on 08/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012
There is nothing like the summer culture in Maine, and I feel fortunate to have experienced it in this beautiful home in Sedgewick on the Blue Hill peninsula. The house is huge while maintaining a cozy, comfortable feel, and the amenities are exceptional. If you love to cook, then stop at the local farmers market to stock up, because you could make anything here. Cathy has made everything so perfectly organized and labeled that you could find your way around the kitchen with your eyes closed. Enjoy your morning coffee, lunch, or dinner on the incredible wrap around porch that sits right on the lake. If youdon't like to cook, there are plenty of little seafood stops in town where you can pick up high quality food at a great price. Make sure to check out the wine shop nearby too!
Either way, take advantage of Cathy's offer for a seafood dinner. We felt very lucky to have a New England expert teach us how to crack open a lobster. The food is rustic yet elegant, and the company is perfect. I can't recommend it enough! -

Middletown, NJLeaving Kill Kare isn't easy.
Left on 08/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This was the second one week summer vacation/family reunion my family has spent at Kill Kare. The only hard part is packing up the car and heading down the driveway back towards reality when the vacation ends.
Kill Kare is truly a beautiful, totally relaxing spot to spend a week or two.
Two weeks would be ideal, the first week goes by very quickly.
The house is lovingly cared for by the Cathy and Dan and is literally in the perfect spot. If you are looking for the ideal place to unwind and spend time together this is it.
We rent kayaks for the week- The activity Shop in Blue Hill will deliver them to the cottage and pick them up. The "pond" is beautiful and we have been lucky enough to spot bald eagles on two occasions.
You cannot beat sunset cocktails on the front porch, go to the Wine Shop in Blue Hill for some great recommendations, they also sell cheese which is excellent. While you are there run next door to The Meadow of Blue Hill, it is an exceptional little gift shop.
The town of Blue Hill has a few quality restaurants and shops along with some really fantastic galleries. That is if you ever can coax yourself off of Kill Kare's front porch.

New York CityUnbeatable Lakeside cottage visit
Left on 07/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This cottage, owned by the lovely Catherine and Dan Larson was the perfect setting for what surely will go down as one of our most memorable and special family vacations. The setting could not be more picturesque, with direct lake access, a fireplace and a bbq there is no reason to leave the house (apart from going to the food co-op or market in town of course). The cottage itself is filled with generations of antiques which only add to it's charm and make a good conversation piece. We spent most of our time on the wrap around deck overlooking the lake, canoeing, preparing family meals and roasting marshmallows at night. You will find everything you need in the cottage from linens and towels to a full kitchen. As the cottage is in the middle of the woods, there are lots of bugs - but by the second day, they didn't seem to bother us much. There are plenty of delicious nearby restaurants and great day trips to take, like to arcadia National Park, Bar Harbour and other Nearby towns.

Left on 07/23/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Guys - as you of all people know, this is an awesome spot. I think the only thing I would have changed is staying at the house more than we did! We obviously did not "economize" well as the house sleeps about ten and there were just two of us! Hopefully we'll get more of the clan there next time. First time visit to Maine and the Down East Coast but it will not be the last - just a great part of the Country. It was great meeting you and we know you work hard on the place and I would as well - it is really a jewell and can't even imagine your own history there. Dan - the French red was excellent and thanks again. Also, I realize that Texas Instruments and Hewlett Packard are different organizations - I think I confused myself that night on a couple of things. Hope to see you again - God Bless. Bob White p.s. Becky probably already sent a note.

Our stay at Kill Kare Kamp was absolutely one of the best vacations we have ever taken. The home itself is a vacation! It offers anything you could possibly need to make your stay so comfortable and peaceful. Beautiful Walkers Pond.. actually a lake is just breathtaking. We rented a canoe and took trips around the lake at sunset and early morning. We loved watching the loons and hearing their calls at night. The house and setting is ideal for a large family. Families with small children and families with older children will all enjoy the home and lake. It offers a little something for everyone. If you are a reader the wrap around porch is an ideal spot to lounge and read. Kill Kare is close to many wonderful scenic towns and wonderful restaraunts. We most definitly plan on returning next year. It is a vacation to remember.

Perfect place to reconnect with friends and relax. The star-filled sky is a nightly must along with just relaxing on the porch. Another must is the lobster dinner done by the Larsons - I can't imagine a better place to enjoy the tastes of Maine...they are the most fabulous cooks and hosts on the East coast. Can't wait to go back again.

Words can't describe how perfect this house is. Fully furnished, with owners who are ready and available to make your stay perfect. We had 9 adults, and never once felt cramped. The views are amazing. Secluded enough to feel like you're on your own island, but conveniently close to what you need or want to see. You can easily get to Bar Harbor or acadia, but you may never want to leave the porch! The home has an obvious history, and it will take you in the moment you arrive.

We had the vacation of a lifetime at KillKare. Our children (including our mountain dog Sully!) could not have been more welcomed and thrilled with the amazing home and property. We were joined by friends and had plenty of room for two families of 5. If you are looking for a true Maine experience and all the comforts of home look no further! I would happily go back and recommend this home with confidence.

I have rented several houses on the Penobscot and Deer Isle over the past decade and although I enjoyed each one, I truly hope to be able to rent Kill Kares Kamp for years to come! The description of this wonderful house and setting is as true as it is peaceful. My friends and I all have very stressful careers and could not have dreamed of a more relaxing vacation. This is what being in Maine was meant to be!

Left on 10/19/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Kill Kare is a wonderful rental for anyone whose idea of a great vacation is swimming, fishing, kayaking, looking for eagles, or sitting on a sunny porch or in front of a fire with a good book and a glass of wine. It's situated directly on a beautiful, pristine lake, a short drive from the Maine coast. The house is spacious and comfortable and well-appointed, though certainly rustic in some respects -- anyone who wants super-modern kitchens and sleek bathrooms, or who wants to keep a safe distance from wildlife, would be advised to vacation elsewhere (frankly, probably not in downeast Maine). For those who love the notion of a cozy, private camp right in the middle of the woods and a lake, will find Kill Kare the perfect spot for families or friends to spend a week together. It's one of my favorite places on earth.

Fell in love last summer with Kill Kare Kamp and cannot wait to go back in July of 2012. Cathy Larson is incredibly gracious and obviously takes great pride in the house and it's history. She also makes an incredible Lobster Dinner!
I was looking for a spot for my family (Two post college and two college students, an old spring spaniel and myself) to spend some time together just relaxing. We certainly found that and much more at Kill Kare. Loved kayaking on the lake, walking the property and visiting nearby Blue Hill with it's galleries and restaurants. Looked foward everyday to the glass of wine or beer on Kill Kare's front porch - such a beautiful spot with amazing sunsets! -

Left on 10/19/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We went to Kill Kare Kamp this summer to get the family together (parent + "kids" aged 20-25)and had a wonderful time. Kill Kare offers the perfect location to relax and enjoy each other's company. Its lakeside setting and proximity to national parks makes it perfect for an active family. The wraparound porch is perfect for reading.
Definitely have one of Cathy's Lobster Dinners, months later we are still talking about how amazing it was! -

Middletown, NJThe Perfect Spot!
Left on 10/18/2011 for a stay in June 2011
It is hard to find a vacation spot that is as homey as Kill Kare! Catherine Larson made us feel more than welcome from the time we pulled into the driveway until the time we left. We had five people and one dog and it was the perfect size.
Regardless of the weather, Kill Kare is the place to be. On rainy days, sitting on the most gorgeous wrap-around porch was equally as exciting as swimming and kayaking on the lake when it was sunny! Also, it is only a short drive acadia National Park--which has some of the most gorgeous hiking trails on the East Coast.
I would suggest that anyone--of any age--spend at least a week, and bring a camera! -

What a wonderful way to experience the wonders of coastal Maine. The house was more than adaquete for five women and extremely well equipped. The wrap around porch with beautiful geraniums and a panaramic view of Walker Lake. Canoes & kayaks are available for rent and definitely a must. Day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia Nat'l park and lobster rolls are a must.
The best part is the hospitality and availability of the owners. This cottage shows many generations of love and care. -

If you are seeking the REAL Maine experience...Huge "Cottage" overlooking the lake....filled with history and wonderful antiques....watching georgous sunsets for the proch,...waking to the exquisite sound of loons and gentle water lapping the house you have found your spot.
Catherine and Dan Larson are the most gracious hosts, and in a blink you feel like you are "one of the family".
The delights are so many...the wrap around porch which feels like the deck of a ship as it actually juts out over the lake, the huge and oh so warm fireplace...so delightful to sit by on a summer night and play games or just commune with your friendsor family.
We were a group of nine, and the house never felt too crowded.. with so many wonderful day excursions to take we all had great experiences to share at the end of the day while dining on Maine's best( lobsters) on the porch.
We couldn't get enough.
Kill Kare Kamp does exactly that, it kills your cares and restores you to a sense of ease and tranquility not easily come by. I urge you to go, you will NOT be disappointed. -

Stunning sunsets, the smell of balsam and the cry of loons...and I never had to leave the porch! Kill Kare embraced me from the moment I walked in the door. It is inviting, rich in history and has the best and biggest fireplace I have ever had the pleasure of falling asleep in front of. The location is unbeatable - sitting right on the lake but just minutes from the salt water and great hiking trails. The Larson's warmth and generous spirit were the icing on the cake!

Walking in the door is like walking back into a world of peaceful cottage living where fishing, swimming, and reading on the deck were part of daily life. A cozy sofa in front of a huge rock fireplace is the center of life. Family games in front of a roaring fire at night and cocktails on the deck at sunset are just a few of our memorable moments at this enchanting cottage. The dock was perfect for swimming and launching our kayaks. The lake is clean with a sandy bottom. Shallow enough for small children and deep enough to swim. The places to explore near by are endless. The area is also fantastic for bicycling. Wonderful back roads to explore. It was one of our all time memorable vacations. A must go back.

Astoria, New YorkGorgous Old-Timey Maine Camp in Ideal Spot
Left on 02/24/2011 for a stay in July 2009
I was overjoyed that my family was able to rent this 6 bedroom camp in Maine on the lake where I grew up going to summer camp as a girl. Walker pond is an ideal spot, on a serene lake big enough for boating but only a few miles from the ocean. It is surrounded by state and national parks, restaurants, organic markets, historical sites, galleries, craft fairs, scenic fishing villages, and more. There were only 5 of us in the 6 bedroom house, but we enjoyed all the extra space. I spent mornings reading on the wrap around porch with coffee. The house is well maintained, comfortable, and lovely, and the caretakers will make sure you have everything you need. The best resource is a giant idea book of all the local attractions, near and far.
