Affordable with helpful & friendly. The manager Herman was very attentive and helpful - even dropping you down to the beach without charging for any transport - very friendly.

I was surprised to just read another review that said that the villas are not like the photos - we thought the villas looked just like the photos (we even remarked on this to each other when we arrived).

We appreciated the honesty about the construction and the reduced price (we paid $100 per night for 2 bedroom pool villa) was a bonus and made for an affordable holiday. They even gave us complimentary airport pickup and were very flexible with allowing us a late check-out. We spent most of the days out and about, so construction wasn't an issue for us. Overall, the villas are a bit worn, but affordable, very comfortable and convenient location. We would definitely return.

      Not for young families

Left on 03/10/2013 for a stay in November 2012

Although we had a lot of help from Paula once we arrived at Villa aroha and discovered the extent of the construction noise, we would still have to say that our experience here was very disappointing. As a result of the environment being unsuitable for our 1yr old toddler, we had to move villa twice (not without its dramas, though both places were fine for us) and just didn't have the relaxing 2wk break we had so looked forward to.

The shortcomings of the villa, based on the age of the place, have been covered in other reviews which I won't repeat here. The noise from the building site made daytime naps and early evening bedtime for our daughter pretty stressful.

We must have been unlucky with the staff, or maybe just too much trouble for them, but apart from the very friendly cleaning ladies, we were not impressed with the team "on the ground" and we certainly didn't feel welcome once they knew the noise was an issue for us. We've lived in asia for many years, so perhaps we have been spoilt by the outstanding levels of hospitality and service that are standard in this part of the world (maybe why our experience differed so greatly from other reviews here?).

For her help with our alternative accommodation, we were very grateful to Paula. Ideally, we'd have had some warning of the construction and made alternative arrangements in less stressful circumstances. All in all, we certainly wouldn't recommend friends to stay here given the quality/comparable price of the places that we looked in on and those that we actually experienced.

Not at all as depicted in the photos

Left on 01/30/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We were informed prior to booking that the neighbours are building, I am not even going to go into the fact that the construction can be likened
to a helicopter constantly hovering overhead, certainly more than "just land
works" as was mentioned to us. It is in fact Devins SkyVillas a huge hotel/apartment building being constructed that starts at 8am until 7.30pm. I dont envisage construction getting completed before 2 years!

then there is the state of disrepair of the villa,
from stained toilets, lights not working, torn pool loungers, blinds that don't
shut, right down to broken TV remotes!
      The seriousness of disrepair is
apparent in the short in the electrical system from lights that were cut out
near the pathway to the bedroom. The manager had to get an electrician
out on our first night due to it sparking and tripping our power, not to even mention
the danger it posed for my child and the total inconvenience to us at 10pm.

The villa is self catering, however there is no microwave, a bar size fridge not allowing much room for storage and has 1 water bottle which you have to get filled from the communal water dispenser (bottled water only costs $0.25) and one would think that this could be an amenity! The towels were old and 1 small bar of soap is provided to you, so make sure you bring everything you require! Towels are not changed unless you ask.

A very unenjoyable stay as we could not stay at the villa during the day as intended due to the noise and horrible surrounds. The owner did offer for us to move to another villa and refund the period not used, but this was not practicle for us.

The photos that have been posted were definately taken a very long time ago!

Not to bad but needs some work

Left on 01/28/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We stayed here late December till early January and on arrival we were happy with what we found, later on we had problems with the power going out & on closer inspection we realized that water was leaking in the bathroom & getting into the light causing it to blow. This problem was fixed the next day which was great but the leaking water from the roof in the bathroom continued the whole time which was very annoying (especially as it was the wet season). Even though we were informed about the construction across from the villa it was further along than we thought & the noise continued from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. The owner did give us a discount for the inconvenience which was appreciated but if I had a choice I would have canceled the villa & booked somewhere else. The Villa was dated & needs a complete overhaul, the staff were terrific & they made our stay here really great & nothing was a problem even when I was bitten by a dog they couldn't do enough, contact with Paula was also great & prompt & with some work done which Paula has said will occur this place would be a great place to stay

      Staying longer next time!

Left on 12/04/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Thanks for a wonderful stay - refreshing to have management that are so honest. I was told about possible construction but it was exactly as Paula told me and that is was intermittent and to be honest I hardly noticed anything or had any disruption. Loved the location with being able to walk to restaurants and my partner loved the local boutiques/spas. Staff helpful and nothing was too much trouble (although a couple of the staff's English wasn't great - but always a smile). The villas are older, but I did a lot of research before choosing and believe that for the price this is good value for money - especially given the location. We didn't stay long enough - hopefully be back at Easter! Anyone staying here, must try Biku at the top of the road for Breakfast - we ate here every morning - excellent and a short 5 minute stroll

      Somewhat tired and rundown

Left on 11/16/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Third villa of our 3 villa, 3 week holiday in Bali. Villa aroha was the most expensive and unfortunately, the most disappointing of the 3 villas we stayed. Paying us$170 per night for our 3 night stay, the 4 villa complex is difficult to find, being about 300m down a small laneway off Jl. Petitegenet, north of Seminyak in the Kerokoban area.

At the complex, there is a central driveway and reception area, with 2 villas off to each side, all walled and private with a gate leading to an open gazebo style lounge/dining/kitchen area. Next to this is a large and nice looking pool, then a thatch roofed building containing 2 air conditioned bedrooms with bathroom off each.

The wooden slat floorboards of the gazebo area are well scratched and have spent too long in moisture and flex underfoot, giving the feeling of walking on a firm trampoline. The slats nearest the kitchen sink have almost given way and there is a thick rubber mat on the floor to try and compensate for the lowest spot. The lounge suite has lost all firmness to it and is like sitting in a foam beanbag, swallowing you up. A 2 burner gas stove, small sink and small bar fridge (stocked with one bottle of water) make up the kitchen. A flat screen tv, with cable channels, hangs above the kitchen. You can ask for a DVD player from reception, if you should wish to. A precariously sloping shelf in the kitchen, holds a kettle, toaster, plates and glasses. A little longer with the lean on the shelf and the contents of it will be in pieces over the floor. Only one power point in the kitchen means unplugging the fridge to plug in the kettle, or any other appliance. This is self-catering accommodation, but the tiny size of the fridge, means very little can be kept in it and a couple of ice cubes will fill the freezer.

The pool between the gazebo and bedrooms looks nice, but on closer inspection and using, some of the tiles are broken and loose underfoot. The one sunbed by the pool, hides the pool filter and pump and the cushion cover has faded in the sun and gone hard, as has the cushions from the bedroom windows overlooking the pool, making lounging on it an uncomfortable experience.

Inside the bedrooms, bedroom one contains a comfortable king size bed and bedroom two, 2 single beds. There is an old style tube tv in bedroom one on a desk bending in the middle under the weight of the tv. Bedroom two has a desk which is also bending in the middle, but the tv has been removed, leaving plugs for it behind. Both rooms have a basic shelf wardrobe unit with curtain to close it off. There is a safe in the wardrobe of the double bedroom, which is not secured to the wall or floor, so can be lifted and moved, although it is heavy. Also looking up to the ceiling in both bedrooms, rays of sunlight can be seen through holes in the thatch. The walls in both rooms are dirty, with rough plaster work where holes have been filled, but not smoothed off.

Like the rest of this place, both bathrooms probably started life as something nice, but with neglect they have become a little too rundown. Both bathrooms have a small area to one side where it is open to the outside and plants have been put in. Flyscreen wire has been put above the plants in an attempt to give some protection from mosquitos and other creatures, but it doesn’t work and just looks untidy. Mosquitos are definitely a problem here and as no mosquito coils provided, make sure you bring your own. There are no complimentaries provided in the bathrooms, with the exception of towels and toilet paper, so bring your own soap and shampoo. There is a soap dispenser by the bathroom sink, but it’s empty. Mould and black stains are prominent on both bathroom ceilings. The toilet is not fixed to the floor of one bathroom, so any movement has to be limited as you don’t want that falling over whilst on it! There is no toilet roll holder in either bathroom, although evidence of one remains. The bathroom sink is not connected to the hot water and only comes through cold. The shower hot water was limited to one shower at a time, then leave it to warm up for a half hour or more, before the next shower can be had.

There are no locks on the gate or any of the villa doors, but staff constantly around meant there was no security issues for us. The bedroom doors can only be locked from the inside, with a wooden slide that secures the double swing doors. Although not being able to lock the doors from the outside, meant that in windy conditions the doors would often blow open themselves.

Complimentary water is available from reception, but they will only use it to fill the bottle supplied in the fridge. The only complimentary items included were 3 tea bags and 4 coffee sachets, which were never restocked. I suspect these were left by a previous guest.

Although out of control of the villa is the outside noise, with the Potato Head Beach Club playing loud party music on Saturday night and the din of regular aircraft overhead mean it’s hard for a peaceful night.

Perhaps we were spoiled with our previous two villas, which were much nicer, well maintained and good value.

Whilst here we visited friends staying at Dowtown Villas in Seminyak and although not perfect, we wished we had stayed there as they had a lovely, clean one bedroom villa with plunge pool.

      Disappointed based on previous reviews

Left on 11/13/2012 for a stay in November 2012

Villa from the reviews and pictures was a very big disappointment.

Good points was the email replies from Paula to any questions booking the accommodation and honesty regarding possible construction noise.

Collection from airport by Moko after our plane was delayed 1-1/2 Hours.
Airconditioning works ok considering the high roof.

      Bad points:

Bathroom shower area is open to the elements and during rain downpours the floor area outside of shower gets wet, to add to the problem the covered roof area in the bathroom leaks through the plastered roof with the drips a dirty brown from the thatched roof causing Stains on the floor.
The light in the bathroom was half hanging on.
The water for the shower and taps are connected to the pool pump and twice we did not have any water in the whole Villa, good job this happened while staff were there to fix the problem.
Close buy property has a Rooster that starts crowing and this can start from 2am in the morning and it can continue for very long periods, I think this was the biggest thing that spoilt our Holiday. As the roof is thatched there is a gap around the top of the roof and the Rooster noise enters the room. If you are a light sleeper then this Villa should be off the shopping list.
Towels are not replaced clean daily.
Room was not cleaned the day we did not go out even though I asked it to be done.
Coffee and Sugar were not top up had to ask again for this.
There is a water bottle in the fridge on arrival this is not topped up unless you do it yourself even if empty during cleaning.
Pool has green alge around the ties and needs cleaning to remove.
Toilet paper not replaced during room cleaning needed to ask for this.
Told cost to Kuta by Villa was about $15 so had the Villa drop us off only to find out return trip in a Bluebird Taxi and subsequent trips were approx $5.00 (AU)

The new Villa construction opposite has commenced and this will be very noisy from now for next 2years at least.

      A truly relaxing experience

Left on 07/04/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This villa is just superb. Just like the photos it has a calm and relaxing vibe. The day beds near the pool were prefect to curl up and read a book or just relax in the cool breeze while talking to our boys as they swam in the pool. It is very clean and has everything that we needed in an open plan layout. The villa is at the end of a quite lane with easy access to some great restaurants, a good mix of shops, taxis and a short walk to the beach. We have very fond memories of walking up the road to a little warung each morning to buy our fruit and eggs and fresh bread from the bakery to come home to our villa to make breakfast each morning. The staff were wonderfully helpful. They were on hand for whatever and whenever we needed, but were not overly intrusive. They provided the best advice on finding a good massage, arranging transport and what was an amazing day rafting for our two 14 year old boys. I came home knowing that I had a truly relaxing holiday.

My husband and I booked a vacation in Bali and pre-paid the entire amount to stay at Paula's villa. Do to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel our trip 3 days prior to arrival. We explained the circumstances to Paula, who didn't ask any questions and was gracious enough to find other travelers who booked the villa during the days we were supposed to be there and she issued us a full refund! If we make it back to Bali, I will definitely stay here. Thanks again Paula!

The villa is everything that we had expected and even better. Location is very good especially in a very busy and happening place such as Seminyak. The villa has provided a very relaxing place to stay. My favorite spot is the day bed sofa by the window, and I miss it so very much. Apart from that is the team who look after the villas. Thumbs up for them especially Pak Herman, they are very attentive and always greet you with their friendly gestures. Paula, you have really made our girls trip become so memorable. Thank you very much for your prompt response to all our queries. I wish that we could come back to villa aroha any time soon.

Aroha Villas is by far the best place to stay while in Bali. It was easy to book and you are provided with the personalised service from Paula throughout the booking experience. The villas are in a great location with easy access to resturants, spas and the beach. The staff are brilliant and always there to offer whatever help they can, often going the extra mile to make sure that your stay is enjoyable, including buying and preparing me a coconut to drink to help with stomache upset (Moko's medicine). The villas are well set out and it is easy to just relax by the pool on nice comfy lounges reading a good book. Villa aroha ticked all the boxes for us offering the complete package of quality , service and geniune friendliness, making us feel like this little piece of paradise was our home away from home. Will definately be back. Thanks guys for an awesome seven days :)

I wish there is a beyond excellent rating for us to mark for Villa aroha as Paula and the staff are truly exceptional. Our vacation was in good hands thanks to a capable and friendly team who genuinely cares. We wanted a personal, boutique setting where we could have a quality family vacation and the villa was just perfect.

Big Thanks to Paula & the Staff
Paula, thanks for making our vacation planning easy and worry free. You knocked down all concerns and obstacles we had. Also, thanks for setting up PayPal and giving us an alternative option to bank transfer.

Herman, thanks for the ride to the airport at 4am in the morning. We had been dreading that day to come due to a couple of heavy sleepers in our group ?...somehow the early morning wake up was not as hard as we thought. There was a wake up call to make sure we were up and Herman loaded our baggage to the car. The villa was close to the airport and everything went smoothly.

Also thanks to the staff in motorcycle (sorry we didn't recognize who/which staff this was other than a hero in motorcycle helmet). It was our first trip to the villa and we kind of got loss. When we called the villa for directions, we were asked not to move. In less than 2 minutes, a staff appeared in a motorcycle and led our hired car to the villa.

We have explored the pristine beaches in the south, sacred temples, spectacular rice terrace, Bali's art & culture and it is the kindness of people like you that touches us all. Thanks for all that you do.

Our magical little hideaway in Bali

Left on 02/21/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Fantastic, I would recommend this villa highly. From the moment we got there, we felt relaxed and so comfortable. The Staff are warm, gentle, kind, helpful, people. that made our visit extra special. Nothing is to much trouble. Paula and Moko are wonderful and the place is magic. We would stay no where else, but here, when we go back to Bali, we arrived as strangers and felt like family when we left. and l am certainly going to recommend it to all my family and friends.

      Great location, super friendly staff

We could not believe how good the location was given the price we paid for the villa. Walking distance to restaurants & beach. Staff were very friendly and we had an amazing seafood BBQ cooked by the villa staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks guys, we will be back!
