We wanted to take Sumi home! Great accommodation too!

Left on 10/03/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We have just returned from 9 nights in Bali (1st visit) of which we spent the first 6 at Villa Kiran. Firstly the location is very good being a short walk from Jl Laksmana and not too far from Jl Dyana Pura and Jl Seminyak. The road is a bit pedestrian unfriendly (wouldnt want to walk along it with young children) but most of the time you could find a taxi driving past to hail.

We consisted of myself and my husband and our 3 sons - 13, 21 and 22, who shared the second bedroom which has a very wide King size bed and they put a substantial single bed in as well. The bedrooms were spacious and the bathrooms were modern and fresh. There is an outside shower that connects to the master ensuite.

The pool is a great size and the grounds are lush and tropical with a bale in a shady corner if you want to get out of the sun which the sunbeds enjoy. The living area is spacious and comfortable with enough seating for all of us (some accommodation was lacking in this I felt) and though not air conditioned it was adequately cooled by the ceiling fan and as it is open on 2 sides enjoys good ventilation.

The kitchen is thoughtfully separated from the living area with glass doors which meant the cooking smells didnt spread through the living area and Sumi ( our delightful villa housekeeper) had her own domain where she russled up our breakfast each morning. Sumi really made our stay more special though we didnt fully appreciate how much until we moved to our next villa which didnt have Sumi! She looked after all the cleaning of the villa and was very helpful with all our requests and enquiries.

We would be very happy to stay again at this Villa, with Sumi!

      Just gorgeous

Left on 07/14/2012 for a stay in June 2012

I’ll start by saying the villa looks exactly like the photos published on the website. It is big, it is beautifully appointed and all the finishings are of high quality. The villa is well constructed, so the rooms are well sealed and generally keep the mozzies out.

The living area is gorgeous. It is a modern take on Bali architecture and interiors. However, make sure you bring a good mozzie repellent (like Deet) to use in the living area as the mozzies have good access to you there. Having said that, the management does fumigate the property, though this is not on a daily basis (as I have had at other villas). I’m not sure what is better, being poisoned daily (with fumigation spray) or being bitten by mozzies?!! Not an easy question to answer… (and one you are faced with wherever you stay in Bali).

While the villa is “independent” it is managed by the Serene Villas, and is not far from the Serene Villa group (which is little further up Drupadi street). So you have full access to their services and support.

It is in a perfect location to easily access all the shops, cafes and restaurants that Seminyak is famous for, by foot. However, since $1 to $4 would pretty much get you anywhere you need to go to within Seminyak, we rarely walked! Fortunately, we never had to book a taxi either (even though the Serene Villas would have helped us with this) we just wandered up the laneway to Drupadi street and flagged them down there.

Sumi, our villa housekeeper was a delight. Very efficient, respectful, quiet and polite. But if, like us, you want to chat, we found her to be very engaging. She really made us feel comfortable. She kept the villa clean and tidy, organised bookings for us, made us cups tea, and cooked up delicious breakfast in the morning. She was even happy to go “off-menu” and make us milkshakes and pancakes from the strawberries we bought while out on a day trip, and cleaned and prepared the other exotic fruit we had discovered and brought back.

While the villa is something special, it is Sumi that makes Villa Kiran a truly fabulous place to stay!!

The Serene Villa’s drivers, Oka and Daruma, are the best drivers I have had in Bali. They are very careful, safe and consistent on the road (we didn’t live in fear as we have with other drivers in Bali!!). They are both very polite and personable and spoke good English. The Serene Villa vehicles are all fitted with seatbelts and appear to be well maintained.

If, like us, you want a personalized day trip, we recommend you ask for Oka. He was a fantastic tour guide and driver. Trained by Daruma (who has worked with the villa for 10 years), Oka has a good appreciation for the interests of the Serene Villa guests. He also has a passion for the Bali countryside and will enjoy showing you some of the pretty back tracks. On this trip to Bali I really felt like I had finally discovered its natural beauty.

I have to say Oka was a fun guide. He will give you your privacy and be quiet and respectful if that is the experience you want. But, if like us, you love to chat and learn about Bali while you drive then Oka is the man for you. He has a good sense of humour and is very engaging. Oka took us to a fantastic Batik gallery (where we bought some lovely clothing and art), and one of the loveliest silver shops I have seen in Bali. He escorted us through a number of temples and explained their history, their faith and the symbolism of the structures.

One night we wanted to go to a local dance and arts festival and being two young women alone in Bali we did not feel confident to do this alone. So Oka and Daruma (who has an appreciation for the arts, and who we understand to be a great dancer) escorted us. This was such a terrific night. We thank them both for their generosity in taking us there, given that Oka was only paid to be the driver for the night.

Seriously, if you don’t choose to stay at the Serene Villa’s or in Villa Kiran, do consider booking Oka or Daruma for your day trip. You will not regret your decision!

Paradise in the middle of Heaven

Left on 04/17/2012 for a stay in April 2012

This was my first trip to the beautiful island of Bali and we were lucky enough to stay at Villa Kiran. Our flight were of course late but the driver that the villa had arranged for us was still there and made us very welcome. Our transfer to the villa from the airport took only about 20mins and this could have been quicker if the entire population of Bali had not decided that they were going to travel on the same road that night. Upon arrival at the villa we were warmly greeted by Soomee forgive the spelling she showed us around the villa which was just exquisite we then went through the registration process, a legality for Indonesia, while we consumed a welcome drink of mixed fruits. The property consisted of a large open air lounge area with an entertainment centre at one end of the room. This had all the latest movies and a great music catalogue. However lets move on we weren't there for the movies. At the other end of the lounge was the kitchen area again fully equipped. from the lounge area access the two bedrooms one with dressing room ensuite and if you wanted an outside shower. The other double bedroom had an en suite bathroom and seperate toilet. There was a large day bed in the shade and four sunloungers. Breakfast and all our other house requirements were expertly taken care of by our butler Soo me who was simply charming and gracious at all times. Later in the day I had a swim in our private pool, although it was more like a hot tub. All in all this was paradise right here in the heart of Seminyak on the beautiful island of Bali.
