A charming cottage with a large private garden and stone patio terrace, just at the walls of a medieval village in the heart of Burgundy. You can have a bucolic country experience, while enjoying village life. Our lovely home is just a five minute walk from the center of the cobbled village of Semur en Auxois, which has restaurants, shops, bakeries, butchers, an old church and beautiful and historic architecture. The village has ramparts and old towers. There are walks everywhere and plenty of other marvelous sites to drive to - villages, churches and vineyards. The famous "route des grands crus wines" is only 45 minutes away, as is the histo...ric town of Beaune.

The house has two bedrooms and two floors. It is fully furnished and has a wood burning stove upstairs. there are bikes in the basement, as well as a washer and dryer.

Downstairs you will find a cozy living / dining room connecting to a fully remodeled kitchen, which opens up onto a lovely terrace with stunning views of the medieval town. On the other side of the living room is a double bedroom and a full size bathroom. French doors open out onto a balcony which looks up at the manor houses above the ramparts. There is a winding staircase that leads upstairs to a cozy living room with exposed wooden beams, comfortable seating, and a fireplace. That's where we keep the television and a second stereo system with plenty of French cds to get you in the mood. There is a second bedroom and half bath upstairs. There are also two nice couches and a daybed. The upstairs and downstairs have an entirely different feel. Both are charming and every window offers a spectacular view of the medieval town of Semur Auxois.

The terrace leads down to a large private garden with fruit trees- pear, quince and cherry--and a giant chestnut tree nestling a treehouse. Our secluded patio is pefect for dining and drinks on a mild evening or cofee on a sunny morning. the tall, natural granite stone wall behind you ensures privacy. In front of you is the most stunning of views. Gaze up at the 14thC church and the ramparts and towers of the fortified chateau. The beautiful Armancon river runs right by the house. And you will cross the village's oldest, stone bridge, le Pont Pinard, every time you come and go to the house.

In Semur en Auxois. You are a five minute walk away from the center of Semur en Auxois. You just cross the bridge and walk up the stairway through the ramparts to the cobbled center of the village. shops, restaurants, cafes, bakeries and a church.

In the area are tons of activities. Quaint villages, a lake for swimming(3 km) , wine territory - you are a 40 minute drive from Beaune and the road through some of the world's best vineyards. The village of Flavigny, where the film Chocolat was filmed, is just a ten minute drive. The countryside is the most beautiful in the world. It is pure, bucolic bliss. 1hr to Paris by TGV train, 2.5 hrs by car.

  After twelve years living in France, I can definitely say that one of my most memorable vacations...or should I say several of them, have been at the "Secret House" in Semur-en-Auxois. It's a lovely cottage right in the heart of a medieval village, complete with ramparts, and stream curling at the bottom and some fantastic countryside filled with chateaux, great wine and the memorable Epoisse cheese.
  The cottage was perfect - big garden filled with flowers with a bbq for the summer - and a large fireplace inside for the winter. I've gone with my family and also met friends there. Definitely one of my favorite places in France.
