Information for guest about Douglas lake
Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers. The dam that controls the reservoir was built in 1942, stretches 202 feet high and 1,705 feet across the French Broad River. Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 44 feet from summer to winter. Although most of the shoreline along the 43 mile-long lake is private. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, a boat ramp and a swimming beach.
Birdwatching: From late July to early October, birdwatchers will witness the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas Lake. The birds rest and feed on the muddy shoreline and in areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to winter flood control levels.
Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you'll find there's good stock year-round.
Trails: If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area (trail map) is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake's tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain
**Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. There will always be water in the main channel however, during certain times of the year there will not be a lot of water at our shoreline. The TVA starts to fill the lake over Memorial Day and it is usually full by the end of May.. The TVA then starts to empty the lake after Labor Day and by the end of September, there is not a lot of water at our shoreline but there is still water in the main channel and you can drop your boat at one of the marinas on the main channel.Read more

A great place for families or couples. Plenty of things near by for the family to do, but far enough away from all the tourist traffic. Susan was wonderful to deal with and able to help and answer every question that I had. We loved the fireplace and access to the lake.

Sisters Lake cabin was very welcoming with country decor and cleanliness. It was nicely stocked with everything we needed and we loved the fact that the kids could easily entertain themselves with the pool table and hot tub. My husband and I couldn't get enough of the relaxing deck looking into the woods. Read more

Just returned from this cabin for a short weekend getaway to Dollywood. Location was good for this particular trip because we could go into Dollywood from the back way, as opposed to having to fight traffic on the Parkway. However, if we had not been doing Dollywood, would have probably preferred a cabin a little closer in. Cabin had a slightly musty feel to it and lots of cobwebs and dust, although someone had checked out the morning that we checked in??? Hot tub was extremely hot, uncomfortably so in fact. Wasn't able to use this as much as we anticipated due to this. Cabin could easily hold more people, yet is only listed as a 4 person rental, since there are only 2 beds. Would suggest adding sleeper sofas or futons and make it available to larger group of people (for example, 2 families travelling together). Also - only a small tube TV in the living room. No bedroom TVs at all, nor one in game room/loft. Would suggest upgrading to flat screens and adding to both bedrooms as well. Parking not the best, especially if you have a larger vehicle. Very close to other cabins. Overall, decent value for our purposes for this particular weekend but likely wouldn't stay in again. Read more
Thank you for your comment, there are some comments i would like to leave about your concerns, there was no one in the cabin the morning before you checked in, in fact for several days before you checked in, i think the availability on the calendar will show that.when a cabin is closed for several days things will get dusty. In the book there are directions stating how to operate the hot tub as far as the jets and the heat. The pictures on this website shows only one TV, as far as the parking not being the best, we just had someone there a few weeks ago that had there vehicle and boat parked in the driveway. We list that this cabin does sleep 4 people but we have had up to 8 people in this cabin before. I am not sure if you are aware of this but there is a map on each cabin that shows the location of the property,so that may help you in the future when your looking for a better location, and maybe look at the pictures a little bit more because they do show the full rooms and you can tell exactly what rooms has TV,s
