Kabul, AfghanistanJust amazing!
Left on 04/23/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My girlfriend and i decided to spend a few days away together. I work in afghanistan and only had a few weeks off. We planned to go in my first week off however i ended up in hospital. Mary opened up our reservation for whenever we could get there while i was on vacation... When we finally made it there we were amazed at how beautiful the place was. The view was amazing, the jacuzzi awesome, the cabin was very clean and we were met by Wes who was very friendly and made sure we were set with everything. Wes invited us to the Seward Hotel for dinner that night and we were not let down. The food was absolutely delicious and Wes waited on us like a champion... We were called once during our stay to ensure we didn't need anything but other than that we were left to enjoy and relax.
Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to relax and enjoy some time away. -

Let me start by saying my sweet romantic husband booked this property before having to leave for 3 months. Booked it the weekend before and the unforeseen passing of his grandmother was 3 days later. I called the property due to he was busy with arrangements for the funeral which was on the Saturday we were reserved here. I was told I am sorry no refunds. So I was to lose out on $450.00. They stated they could do us a favor and do a gift certificate we could use at a later date even though I explained he was leaving and I was not going to be able to go to the funeral due to the tied up expense here. No compassion. We had no choice had to accept the certificate of lose out. We did he got his leave date extended an we went the following weekend.
So now about the rental.. The drive up was treacherous due to ice we live in alaska we are on with that. The cabin is outdated and reeked of flower plugins which I unplugged. The shower comes on all by itself, out of the blue like someone is in it. Bed is ok If you like super soft and are on the brass has not been polished in forever. I will give a good review for the hot tub only thing wrong there is the controls some were not working and just bring flip flops to walk on the deck due to the condition.
Best thing about the trip... I was with my best friend, my husband that was priceless. I will end with if you want to pay a high rate for an over rated property just hope nothing comes up you have to cancel. When they say no refund they mean it!!! -

Stayed here with another couple for just one night in Seward. If we return for more nights in the future, would certainly book here again.
House has an interesting layout with one unit upstairs and another downstairs, linked by a spiral staircase. Kitchen and bathroom are in the upstairs (main floor actually) unit.
Large deck with hot top and gas grill, which we took advantage of by grilling up some freshly caught coho.
Owned and managed by the same folks who run the Hotel Seward. Mary was extremely helpful and friendly arranging our stay and visiting with us at the Hotel Seward in town.
Note: You'll need to check in at the Hotel Seward to get the access for the Cabin on the Cliff. Take a few minutes to look around this historic hotel - lots of great old pictures.
If you're interested in fishing with a real unique Alaska character, the Hotel Seward can hook you up with Wes...we enjoyed part of a day with Wes on the Russian River on our way back up toward Anchorage. -

We had a wonderful three-night stay here. The cabin is small but cute - and the shower is perfect. The deck is huge, and the hot tub - well, let's just say that we probably spent more time in the hot tub than we did in the cabin or anywhere else in Seward. It was the perfect size, the perfect temperature, the perfect view.
I did see someone leave a 'review' in a Tripadvisor forum that really ripped the place for its view and location, even though the review's author admitted s/he had never stayed there. That made me nervous, but whatever the reasons for that author's venom, they were misplaced.
Is the cabin all alone on the cliff? No, not any more: there are a few houses nearby, but there is plenty of privacy, and you have to go out of your way to surrender that privacy. Nobody is going to see you in the hot tub unless you want them to. And no, the cabin does not look down on empty water, as one might infer; it looks out over a river and the harbor as well as the bay. Honestly, IMO that makes the view more interesting: my girlfriend and I enjoyed watching boats coming and going and squinting at the restaurants in the near-distance and figuring out where we would dine that night.
Yes, it is very expensive, especially in season. (I'd like to visit off-season, too; not just because it costs less, but I'd enjoy sitting in that hot tub and looking out at the snow and ice.) But let me finish with a story that explains how we wound up there: we wanted a place to go for my girlfriend's 50th birthday, but couldn't travel far because her dog is 13 years old and so of course we didn't want to leave him. So we decided to find somewhere in-state (she lives in anchorage). I tried an abundance of places, and none of them, understandably, wanted to accept a dog. But Mary, the owner of Cabin on the Cliff, was understanding and considerate: she allowed us to bring the dog, asking only that we pay a small deposit, sign a pet agreement and commit to vacuum. Hardly an onerous request, and I'm pretty sure Joe the dog enjoyed the trip as much as we did. -

My experience at a Cabin on a Cliff was amazing, my boyfriend and I may consider making this a yearly mini trip tradition for us.
