Description from the owner
Enjoy the view of Resurrection Bay from this charming 3-bedroom, 2 story cottage. Look for Orcas. sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals and humpback whales as you walk the beach or while enjoying your breakfast from the deck. If you enjoy birding, keep an eye out for Bald Eagles, cormorants, great blue herons, harlequin ducks and a large variety of sea and forest birds. We have rods and reels available for fishers out to catch that pink, red, silver or king salmon.

new zealandVery homely cottage
Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our extended family of 4 adults and 3 children stayed at this lovely homely cottage for three nights. The location is superb being right on the beach front with views to die for. The cottage is equipped with everything imaginable for a relaxing holiday. As we had travelled from New Zealand with the bare minimum of luggage it was a godsend to stay here as the kitchen was fully equipped - herbs, spices, oils and all manner of condiments were available for our use so we only needed to buy the big items from the supermarket to cook our own meals. The bedrooms were cosy and well stocked with linen and towels. Books, toys, games were all there for us to use.
Great fishing a little further down the beach landed us some fat salmon. Would also recommend going out on a charter fishing trip.
Many thanks to Sue for her helpful tips and having such a great place to share.Response from Sue & Ken Lang - 10/03/2012

Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We just returned from our 6th trip to Alaska, and our 3rd stop at "Sue's Place". For us, it is simply the best place in the Seward area to stay. Her charming cottage is actually past Seward and out on Lowell Point, which is a good thing to us. Seward is a neat little town, but it can get overrun by cruise ship folks. So, it can be a bit crowded by people "on a schedule". Lowell Point, however, is completely laid back, mainly because there is not much there besides vacation houses, campgrounds, a state park, and Miller's Landing (for charter fishing, kayaking, etc...).
Plopped right on the beach of Resurrection Bay, pictures can't even convey the ever-changing view of different colors bouncing off the water and mountains. Porpoises, sea otters, bald eagles, and sea lions are frequent visitors, and all you need to do is sit and wait, inside or out.
The cottage is a "cottage", with age and personality. We love the homey feel and the warm fireplace, but you'll be disappointed if you're expecting The Ritz. Of course, you probably wouldn't be visiting Seward/Lowell Point if that was your expectation!
Thank you, Sue, for allowing my family to share your slice of heaven!Response from Sue & Ken Lang - 09/05/2012

This place is special. We will never forget the beautiful view of the mountains across the bay, the beach, and the wildlife. Our hostess, Sue Lang. was very helpful and most fun to chat with. We fall in love with alaska and its interesting and friendly people during our stay in Seward. We will definitely come back.

I was totally impressed with the cottage. It was quaint and charming. The location was idyllic. I was enraptured by the views and the peacefulness of it. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The amenities were well designed and functional. Sue and Ken went out of their way to make it a perfect trip. I was very very impressed with the entire trip and have told many friends of it and of my stay there.

We came down to Seward for Pink Cheeks, the annual triathalon. There were six of us and the three bedrooms with two beds in each room worked out perfectly. Sue was a great host and very helpful. We all had a great time. Sitting out at the fire pit in the evening with the view of Resurrection Bay was spectaular. I see this becoming a tradition. We made Sue promise us the house for next years Pink Cheeks! Thanks for everything Sue. See you next year!

Mill Creek Mission Team
Fincastle, VaAbsolutely stunning views of Resurrection Bay and Eagles galore
Left on 08/05/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Our group of seven(Mill Creek Mission Team in Alaska for "Salmon Frenzy") stayed at a Cottage on the Bay in July for three nights and were charmed by the cottage, made to feel welcome by the owner(Sue Lang) and Buster and Bentley and were absolutely stunned by the breathtaking views! From a magnificent crystal clear sunrise(which I understand is unusual) to many, many eagles soaring, sitting in trees or on the beach to otters playing in the water outside the front door to a huge cruise ship passing in front of the cottage to the comfortable cottage with a fireplace(which we enjoyed) to the outside deck with fire pit(which we also enjoyed) and grill and picnic table, we were sad to leave after 2 days and 3 nights but we were looking forward to our trip to Kenai where we served with Missionary Brenda Crim at the "Salmon Frenzy" where the Kenai River empties into Cook Inlet. Thank you Sue for a memorable time in Lowell Point and Seward!

Bear Creek, AKLowell Point, the coastal Alaska experience
Left on 04/14/2010 for a stay in March 2010
Amazing scenery, super location, attentive hosts, I look forward to coming back.
I spent the winter of 2009-2010 down on the Point. Theres nothing one can complain about when you wake up in the morning, sit up in bed, and can see sea otters playing out in the bay and the sun rising over the fijords through the front windows. I'd roll out of bed, make some cocoa, and then sit outside and go contemplate the day ahead while listening to the waves crash and birds start chirp. The evenings would be almost the same process in reverse. After dinner, sit outside for a spell, or on the couch and then retreat to bed with the waves and breeze lulling me to sleep.
The house sits on a short bluff on the western side of Resurrection Bay on the north end of Lowell Point. The house was fully equipped with all the civilized comforts one would expect outside and done up in Alaskan-Coastal cabin decor. The house is on a cistern, which shouldnt be much of a problem in any season other than hard winter. I was less than three miles or so from downtown Seward, a decent walk or short drive -- just had to work with the occasional avalanches in the winter.

LARGE freezer and generous loan of a vacuum sealer that works great was priceless in bringing home four coolers of fish. We've been here twice now. The home is charming, has everything you need if you have kids...books, games, videos, tons of towels and washcloths, washer and dryer! Come to think of it, the adults made good use of that stuff too. The view is zen mind inducing as is being right on the water, oh, and the hostess is a hoot!

Left on 07/29/2009 for a stay in June 2009
Sue's Cottage by the Bay was our favoite place to stay! The cottage itself was clean and cozy w/plenty of comfy beds, washer/dryer, & a well-equipped kitchen! Sue pointed out wildlife that passed right by our cottage deck such as sea lions and otters, and Bald Eagles landed at the shoreline! The view of Resurrection Bay was beautiful with fishing boats and even a huge cruise ship passing by! My grandson loved playing on the rocks. There's a nice firering altho it was too windy when we were there. Very conveniently located to Seward and the nature/whaling cruises & fishing charters! All in all, the cottage was a little piece of AK paradise we now wish we could pull out when needed! Would not hesitate for a moment to recommend!!!

Left on 07/28/2009 for a stay in May 2009
It would be difficult to find a better view of Resurrection Bay or nicer hosts. There was plenty of space for our group of five adults and two children. Though we were too busy to take advantage of it, we were provided with wood for a beachside campfire. The house was well furnished with comfortable beds and clean linens. The kitchen had a generously supplied fridge and cupboards.
It would have been a good place to stay if it had been clean. The massive amount of hair and dust made us doubt the house had been thoroughly cleaned prior to our coming. The fridge was not too bad, but it clearly had not been wiped out very well.
The only other complaint was that the water heater went out a few times. It was an easy fix, but was very inconvenient and a little frustrating.
Next time we visit Seward, we will find somewhere else to stay. The overall experience was not worth the cost. -

Clive, IAA Slice of Heaven on Resurrection Bay
Left on 07/28/2009 for a stay in June 2009
Staying at Cottage on the Bay, owned by Sue and Ken Lang, proved to be an absolute highlight of our trip to Alaska. Our family group of six (ranging in age from 22 to 74) enjoyed our one-night stay immensely and would return in a heartbeat. We hoped staying there would give us a taste of "real Alaska" before boarding our cruise ship in Seward the next evening, and our expectations were definitely exceeded. We were drawn to the shore, just steps from the back door, where sea otters frolicked in the bay and a variety of boats could be seen. An eagle's nest was located just across the road. Each window of the cottage held a special view. We enjoyed cooking dinner and breakfast in the well-stocked kitchen, and in between had a great night's sleep in extremely comfortable beds. The varied video collection provided something for all tastes, and games and books provided other diversions. The Langs were happy to provide advice or assistance whenever asked, and we enjoyed hearing about the Seward area from them, but they also respected our privacy. They have gone the extra mile to ensure the comfort of their guests while decorating with items that let you KNOW you're in Alaska. The only thing we'd do differently another time is stay longer.
