    Additional Location Information

Seward is my little piece of paradise! It is nestled around Ressurection Bay, with its aquamarine hue, which keeps us mild in the summer and warmer in the winter. Seward is no quick stopover! We have the SeaLife Center whick is an aquarium and marinelife rescue center. You can view sea lions, salmon, puffins, starfish, and all of Alaska's native birds and sealife. Watch the birds in their native habitat and then go below to see them diving in the depths for their dinner. Experience walking up to a glaciar at Exit Glaciar (even has handicap accessible) and for the more adventurous, climbing all the way up to the Harding Ice Field which is the origin of our glaciers! Also, it is must to take a boat ride to see giant glaciars calving into the sea and whales spouting and breeching! Little unique sides would be riding past our huge waterfall out a 2.7mi. mountain road with a dropoff to the bay on one side and cliffs on the other... view sea lions and our favorite sea otters or fish off the rocks. When you get all the way to the end you can park and walk a public beach on Lowell Point. At low tide you will see various varieties of sea urchins, sea stars and other sealife. Don't miss our two biggest draws: food and fishing! Seward has been named the fishing capital of the northwest US. Halibut, Ling cod, rockfish, and of course salmon are plentiful here. There are many local charters available or fish off of the shore! Another favorite of mine is to visit the salmon weir on Bear Lake Road. Bears have been known to frequent the area and you can view the salmon being counted as they travel upstream. Daily views of eagles and you can see a few nests. Seward has it all and loves to share. We are a small village of less than 3000 in the winter that blossoms in the summer to all of tourism. Seward is one of the most favorite destinations for Alaskans as well as visitors from the outside! Be sure to allow 3-5 days to really experience the jewel that is Seward! Getting around town is facilitated by Seward's free shuttle which stops across from my Cottage.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of my Cottage! I am so glad that you enjoyed your trip and my place. Everyone seems to like the location and convenience of having their own home away from home! I work hard to keep it the way I would like a place I stay in to be and I am very glad you appreciated it! Hope to see you again...

Good view from the window but...

Left on 07/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed in the Victorian suite, it was on the first floor. The owner was a very nice lady available to fix any issues that we had. The house had decent view of the mountains and the ocean from the kitchen and living room, however the wooden floor would always crackle when we walk. The bathroom had doors opening in the kitchen and the bedroom, also it did not have lock on the doors which was inconvenient since we were 3 people.

      Hi,
I am sorry that you were not pleased with your apartment. I wish you would have let me know while you were there so I could have done something about it. You stayed in the Traveler's Suite on the first floor. The Victorian Suite is on the second floor. I would suggest that you let us know when you are not happy so that something could have been done to help you.

      Hope You Enjoyed your trip,

Great kitchen and bath. Comfortable living room. Small but cozy bedrooms. Spotless and quaint. Walking distance to most of Seward attractions. Joann, the owner/manager was very helpful with directions and recommendations. I would stay there again and again.

      Good location, nice home

Left on 09/07/2011 for a stay in August 2011

A family of 5 adults stayed here for 2 nights in late august. The home was spotless! Although the house is small, it accomodated us quite nicely. The fully equipped kitchen allowed us to cook several meals and have real family time. Two upstairs bedrooms were a bit tight, but accomodated 2 adults in each room. A futon downstairs was fine for our young adult. We felt at home, comfortable, and had many things at hand. We would definitely stay here again. The owner stopped by to check on us, making us feel even more at home and comfortable.

I am so glad you enjoyed my little cottage! I enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again someday! Who knows how our paths might cross... Summers in Seward are such a joy with all the visitors as the winter is a sleepy little town of 2500 people... Thank you for taking the time to review my home and if you ever return, remind me and I will give you a rate for return customers!!

      nice

Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The owner is very nice and does actively use the home. The only thing Lighthouse about the cottage is the photos in the home. Our views were beautiful as listed, mountains and water. For a family of 4 we were looking for a little room. The kitchen gave us the flexibility of eating in instead of restaurants during part of our vacation. The living room had a futon couch/bed, so if anyone has back difficulties there is only one comfortable chair in the home. The beds were a tempurpedic and a posturepedic mattresses. The bedrooms are lofts, so I at 5'5" had to duck to move into the bed, and the lofts are small. But going to alaska hopefully one is outside more than inside. The home is clean and neat and we experienced no unexpected surprises with the home itself. Of note, when we were there at the end of June 2011 there was an earthquake in the aleutian Islands that activated the emergency call systems. There was no internet service provided in the home, so we were calling people in lower 48 (sorry guys that we woke you up at midnight) for any additional information they could find. People became very active and motor homes starting leaving. We drove to the local supermarket and they were helpful in giving information. I wished there were some information about this listed in the home in addition to the required emergency evacuation plan for fire.

I am sorry that you had the misfortune of being in Alaska for one of our tsunami warnings. A call to 911 or the local police would have immediately given any information needed. When the siren goes off there would be a different response to each emergency and information would nave to be from them. Internet would have been of no avail as we are a small community and the individualized information you would need wouyld not be on the web. As is stated on my website you will read that the upstairs slopes with the roof line. Also it is clear that there is no internet in the home, but it is available free across the street at the coffee shop or also at our library at no charge (2 blocks from my cottage). The living area has a Lazyboy recliner, a glider rocker with ottoman, 2 padded arm chairs as well as the futon. Again, I am sorry for your experience and hope it did not take away from your exxperienc of Seward and Alaska...

      Cozy alaskan Cottage

Left on 07/12/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Everything about the cottage was great! The cottage has a very warm vintage atmosphere that really compliments it's location next to the ocean. We went with 4 kids, 1 teenager and 3 adults. For as many people that were there, it was not crowded at all. The first floor is very spacious, and the second floor is a little crowded because of the caved in walls, but again, very roomy. The kitchen had everything, from bowls and spoons, to honey and coffee. The location was only a few blocks away from the Sealife Center, many restaurants, many gift shops, and a park. There was also a free shuttle that took us to the other end of the town. Overall, it was a great little place to stay, and much more cost effective that a hotel!

Thank you for your review, but most of all for your visit to my cottage! I am glad to hear that it worked out so well for you as I was a bit worried with so many people... The ceilings in the rooms upstairs are the roof of the cottage, so they slant and limit headroom except in the center of the room. The good news is that you only go there to sleep since there is so much to enjoy in Seward! Hope to see you again and thank you again for the kind words!

      Great place to stay!

Left on 08/10/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The alaska Lighthouse Cottage in Seward is a cute, clean and comfortable little cottage. The upstairs rooms are very small and don't have a lot of space for you to stand up straight (sloped ceilings), but beds are comfortable and the bathroom, living room and kitchen were spacious and well equipped. Joanne was friendly and took great care of us.

We had a wonderful stay at Joanne's cottage. It was clean and cozy, even had an electric fireplace for atmosphere and to take the chill off. The kitchen was totally supplied and easy to work in. The location is very close to the Sea Life Center and an easy walk to town. At this point in our travels, we needed a place to relax and the cottage worked well. Joanne was very helpful in giving us assess earlier than we had expected arriving. She also directed us to her friends at the Crepe Restaurant for a great experience and a delicious meal.
