A trickling creek, gorgeous views, and up-to-date amenities await you at Alderhill. Large rooms and cozy nooks meet the needs of the group and the individual. While this new home is reminiscent of an old English farmhouse containing unique furnishings, natural stone flooring, soft carpeting, and hand hewn beams, it also features a freestanding gas wood stove, large picture windows, and a CD player with surround sound. There is also a DVD player with DVD's. The spacious dining room and modern kitchen make mealtime a pleasure. Each bedroom features a pillow top bed and a private view of the forest. Parking is available for 4-5 vehicles. Once th...ere you will not want to leave Alderhill.

The alderhill cabin can hardly be called a "cabin," because it is a gorgeous home! Our family came in from the mid-west, the coast, and SoCal to stay at alderhill, and it was really a wonderful location, a beautiful home, and in a very quiet area. We've vacationed (and even back-packed) out of Shaver for many years, so we've stayed in a number of places. So the "cabin" itself was very nice in our opinion!
Our concerns were related to maintenance issues which needed to be addressed. The fireplace didn't work until the afternoon before we left, the a/C & Heater vent protruded from the stone floor in the dining area, which caused a few stubbed toes during our stay. A few wood chairs were broken and simple "leaned" together (which we discovered when my 83 year old mother tried to sit down) and in the master bedroom the toilet tank lid had been broken (with jagged edges) prior to our arrival.
I realize that with cabin renters coming in and out over the holidays, that repairs are difficult to schedule between visitors, however, I think the rental agency should do a walk-through to assess the damages before new renters come in. After all, when someone is coming up to Shaver on a vacation, they don't want to spend time on the phone with the rental agency because of repair issues. Also, the free-standing gas wood stove did not work, and in December you really plan on a fire for extra warmth and ambience. We asked to be "comped" for this, but I don't think that happened.
All that said, it is a great home, but the maintenance and furniture issues need to be addressed.

Very upgraded home, nice deck surrounded by trees, clean. We've been coming to Shaver for 5 years, and this is the nicest, cleanest, most upgraded home we've ever stayed in. Only negative thing I would say is that there is not a pantry available to use in the kitchen, so both families had food/cans/drinks stacked all over the floor. Normally we split the pantry between families. Weird for such a remodeled kitchen, there is no place to put your food. (unless you just leave it all on the island/counters.)

My children, grandchildren, and I love this house. This is the second time we have spent our vacation in the Alder home. It is comfortable, clean, and accommodates a large family. Shaver Lake Vaction Rentals staff has always been cheerful and very helpful.
