Montalto Castle has a rich past dating back over one thousand years. Much of the castle is from medieval times, with extensive restorations performed in the 16th century and again in the 19th century.
It has long been family owned, first by the Berardenga family, then by the Palmieri, and finally by ourselves, Giovanni and Diana Coda-Nunziante, who acquired it from cousins in 1970.
We have been offering the houses of the little hamlet as vacation villa rentals since 1985. Villas and apartments range from 1 to 4 bedrooms, and even a wing of the castle itself is available.

Montalto castle is the ideal home base for interspersing quiet days of rest and relaxation with interesting local excursions, because there is so much within reach. This is a great way to get to know a country in depth, and far more relaxing than an exhausting whirlwind tour of Italy.
Whether you are interested in art and culture or want to sample the local food and world-famous Chianti and Brunello wine, or to relax and rejuvenate with a day at a spa, you will find it all in the area surrounding the castle. There is too much to list in a single page, so please just ask! We try to keep up to date on the many things to do in the surroundings, such as concerts, special events, etc., and we will be happy to provide the assistance you may need in obtaining tickets and often discounts.

(*) The months of March, November and December and the first week of January require a heating surcharge of 100 EU per bedroom plus 20 EU per day per bedroom.

For weddings the months from May through September are considered high season.
- Normal stays - Rentals are generally from Saturday to Saturday, with some flexibility.
- Short stays - 2 nights minimum in Low Season, 3 nights minimum in Mid Seasons, 4 nights minimum in High Season. Shorter bookings may be accepted 10 days before arrival.
- Long stays - For bookings of two weeks or more, weeks after the first one benefit from a 10% discount.
Check in between 4 and 7 pm; check out by 10 am.
kitchenware, sheets and towels (exchanged weekly), water, gas and electricity, firewood, use of the communal sports activities and normal final cleaning. Normal heating is included but there is a surcharge during the coldest months.
A Full Service Option is available, which includes daily cleaning and midweek change of sheets and towels: add 20% to rental price.
