Description from the owner
A perfect base to explore rural France and to enjoy the history, attractions, excellent climate and charm of the Vendee.
A recently converted 17th century barn with lots of character. It’s spacious and is fully furnished for six.
The barn is located in a hamlet near Sigournais, about 8 km from Chantonnay.
It’s a perfect base to cater for all holiday interests or simply to relax. (And it’s Wi-Fi enabled!)

Additional Location Information
In the Vendee, a 5 minute drive from Sigournais or 10 minutes from Chantonnay, 45 - 60 minutes from Sables d'Olonne, la Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers.
The barn is in a hamlet nestling in the glorious countryside of the Vendee and dates from the seventeenth century. Many of the hamlet's original occupants worked at the famous chateau de Sigournais. The location is the place to unwind completely, there is virtually no traffic but sometimes the occasional tractor! It is particularly peaceful.
There are working farms close by and it is not unusual to see cows grazing in the fields next to the barn. Over the field beyond the patio of the barn you can see the chateau and it's original driveway through an avenue of trees.
Sigournais is a 10 minute walk away. There is a general store, a hairdresser and a bar where you can eat.
Chantonnay is about a 10-minute drive away where there are many shops including two large supermarkets. There is a general market on Thursday and a food market on Saturday. There is also a cinema and a swimming pool, plus numerous restaurants and bars.
The barn has been lovingly converted to retain its character and history. Originally built before the Vendee wars but burned by troops of the Revolution in the late 18th century. Evidence of this can be still be seen on the stone where its colour has been changed from creamy yellow to a rose colored hue.
