Description from the manager

This stone built, semi detached, pet friendly cottage for 6 people in the village of Sleights is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and is just 4 miles from the historic harbour town of Whitby, home to the famous gothic abbey. This semi-detached stone conversion was once a piggery and has been skilfully renovated to provide charming holiday accommodation. The three bedrooms are elegant and beautifully decorated and have an abundance of character with fireplaces, exposed beams and all with en-suite facilities. The delightful kitchen has a real country feel and the dining/family area has French doors that open onto a balcony wit...Read more

      Lovely cottage great location

Left on 04/29/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We chose this cottage for 3 couples for a 50th birthday weekend. All of the rooms were en suite and nicely decorated, the lounge and kitchen were comfortable and well equipped and there was plenty of space. Lovely balcony terrace with great view. We ate in on the first night, in the local pub on the second and in Whitby on the third. Spent Saturday in Whitby and Sunday walked along the coast from Runswick Bay to Staithes. It was snowing when we were there but the fire warmed the lounge up quite quickly. In winter you would need to have the heating on for while to heat the house, particularly the downstairs bedroom.

We could have asked for a more comfortable cottage to stay in. The views were fantastic and it had everything we needed and more.

Outstanding property, well situated with magnificent views

Left on 10/20/2011 for a stay in August 2011

The Piggery in Sleights is a beautifully presented, comfortable and well equipped holiday cottage with magnificent views over the Esk Valley. All the bedrooms are en-suite making it perfect for holidays involving extended families and/or friends. The owners and other visitors had left plenty of useful information about things to do in Whitby and the surrounding area, together with details of the best (and worst) places to eat in the locality.
All in all probably the best holiday cottage we have stayed in so far (and we have stayed in a good few all over the UK over the years).
A real credit to the owners and would definately recommend. We'll be going back again for sure.

Home from home set in beautiful scenery

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The Piggery is a lovely cottage with more
extras than you could want. The setting looks over the Eskdalemuir valley and sitting out on the balcony eating our meals
      of a evening was delightful.Sleights is a
large village with a main road runnig through it.The bakery is wonderful and the
butchers has a fantastic choice of all sorts of meats. The local pub is the Plough,
we went twice and had a bar meal and then a barbeque night, very pleasant and reasonably priced. The accomodation at the Piggery is a1 everything you could need.
I particularly liked the on suite and walk in wardrobes. Overall I would give the Piggery 9 1/2 out of 10 only spoilt by
the very steep back garden which even our little dog had trouble getting around! All in all a very enjoyable week even with the
      heavy rain. Thank you.

      Didn't want to go home.

Left on 09/16/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The Piggery is an extremely comfortable house. The accommodation is of a very high standard. We enjoyed the beautiful views from the balcony and looked forward to the regular passage of the steam train. It is a great centre for a holiday and we particularly enjoyed the fish and chips from Eskdale Fisheries!
Had a leak from the hot water tank, but within an hour of calling the owner, a plumber was on site and fixed it. I couldn't match that at home!

      The most beautiful setting!

Left on 07/24/2010 for a stay in May 2010

This cottage was situated in the most beautiful setting overlooking the valley. The cottage itself was immaculate but very homely and welcoming. I took my two year old son with me and the only downside was how steep the garden at the cottage was, which made it difficult for him to have any outdoor freedom, this was definately made up for though by the daily trips of the steam train passing the house and the cows in the field at the bottom of the garden. Sleights is a perfectly situatated to allow you to explore Whitby amoungst other area's. The village also has a fantastic butchers and bakery and the people were very friendly. The highlight for my two year old and his grandma was the day out on the steam train. I would definately return to the Piggary and Sleights.

      Brilliant North York Moors !

Left on 12/22/2009 for a stay in November 2008

The Piggery at Sleights is in a wonderful location and is a beautiful cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to anyone, and hopefully will be returning. The Cottage had everything we desired,
a brilliant outlook, was definately 'a home from home' and it's situation is ideal for the local village amenities, also not far from Whitby, and of course perfectly placed for visiting different areas of the Moors.
The one thing I liked best about the cottage was the large kitchen and dining table where we spent most evenings 'wining & dining'. - There was nothing I did not like, although ideally the en-suite could have done with being a little bit more spacious.

      THE PERFECT COTTAGE

Left on 12/18/2009 for a stay in September 2007

The cottage was absolutely first class and the view matched it.We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in the area and as a result we have just booked again to stay in the piggeries.

We love Yorkshire anyway but this area was just perfect for visiting Whitby and Scarborough and the moors area.

The only downside to our stay was when we witnessed a cow on the adjoining farm losing a calf and it was dragged away by tractor. However this is all part of country life so in a way I suppose we had an educating experience.

      Sheer excellence at the Piggery

Left on 12/09/2009 for a stay in May 2008

Could not fault this accommodation. The owners have made it a real home from home and have put a lot of themselves into making this place truly individual. We were attracted by the ground floor bedroom and en suite for my mother who was disabled and couldn't do stairs. The views from the verandah accross the valley are stunning.

If I had one criticism, it is that I do not understand the policy of not providing towels. After all if you provide sheets on the beds, why not towels?

      Otherwise truly excellent
