Fairytale Winter Wonderland – The Perfect Winter Farmhouse! Date

Left on 11/06/2012 for a stay in November 2012

We have just returned from our third visit to Ty Gilfach. The views are spectacular particularly with the first snow of the season on the mountains – it was magical! We were as cosy as can be with the roaring log burner and we would highly recommend the cottage for both couples as well as families as it has the most wonderful little playroom fully stocked with books, toys, DVD’s etc. – enough to keep little ones entertained for hours!

The farmhouse has been restored to a very high standard and we wanted for nothing – every little thing has been thought of. If you are a cook it is brilliant as there is every pot and pan you could need and the Rayburn is very easy to use. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The property is surrounded by mountain streams in 50 acres of land with mountain views directly from the windows which is wonderful to wake up to and gaze at with a steaming cup of tea in hand!

The owners Ray & Marie are a lovely couple, so accommodating, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They have done a great job on their website www.snowdoniacountrycottages.co.uk to show the true beauty of the property but a photo just cannot capture the stunning rugged beauty of Cwm Pennant – known as the most beautiful valley in Wales. It is a ‘Be There’ place so we would recommend you visit Snowdonia’s ‘Best Kept Secret’ ..or not so secret now!

      Beautiful cottage, lovely peaceful location

Left on 09/26/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We had a lovely week staying in Ty Gilfach, the cottage is just perfect, beautifully clean and well kept and we enjoyed the country lifestyle using the Rayburn and wood-burning stove. Our toddler fell in love with the well equipped playroom which was a lovely touch, we were also impressed with the stairgate, highchair and travel cot which were provided free of charge. He also enjoyed the daily visits from sheep who came to the front door!
The location is very peaceful and quiet and the scenery is spectacular, with lots to do within a reasonable driving distance. It is pretty remote but that was part of its charm!
My family and I would definitely love to go back to Ty Gilfach again some day.

Breathtaking views, a great family holiday.

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in August 2012

This is a quiet, beautiful valley in Snowdonia: well placed to climb Snowden, visit Portmeirion village or Caernarfon Castle. Yes, it is 10-15 mins up the valley from the main road but that it what makes it so special. It is quiet, the views are wonderful and the cottage has everything that you need. The beds are very comfortable. Climb the waterfall - it is great fun.

Superb hide-away in a beautiful valley

Left on 07/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Ideal if you're looking to get away from the maddening crowds or to give young kids a glimpse of glorious valleys and mountains. The cottage is set between woodland and stream where sheep are the noisiest neighbours and there's a playroom full of toys, books and dvds that kept even our boys quiet. The kitchen, lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms are as well furnished and equipped as you'd hope.
The location is not entirely secluded - there is an adjoining cottage. But the walls are thick and we only occasionally saw, and never heard our fellow guests.
Castles, beaches and mountain railways are all a short drive away. Nor was the rain ever far. But it didn't seem to matter amid so much green and quiet.

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in May 2012

From the initial booking to the point where Ray and Marie sent articles we had left at the house back to us we have nothing but good things to say about this holiday, the property is in a magnificent setting and has everything required for a great holiday, well thought out and with every aspect of self catering covered, we liked the relaxing enviroment best and cannot find a single negative to say. Carlsberg don't do self catering but if they did!!! Thanks again.

A heavenly view, an idyllic setting and a property you will ador

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012

The photos showed a stunning place- but I have to say it was an even more amazing experience having a week in the most glorious setting,it surpassed all description, photos only captured 50% of its' beauty- it's a 'BE' there place- to wake up to a breath taking viewwhilst in your bed, to listen to the sheep, breath in the mountain air; the lighting on the mountains varies so much. The setting is isolated but with a car it is in perfect reach of beaches, towns, National Trust and country walks.
Brilliant accommodation, comfy beds, everything well appointed and it is so easy to relax and forget the real world - what more can you ask? The grounds are beautiful and the sheep always lead you to the property! There is nothing negative to say.
Such delightful owners who always aim to please- they obviously adore the place and they expect others to respect the property which then allows a high standard to be maintained. We will definitely be back :)- cannot wait!

      Stunning seclusion

Left on 03/27/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Ty Gilfach is a comfortable, beautifully equipped, and carefully renovated old farmhouse, hidden deep in the little-visited but beautiful Cwm Pennant, towards the southern end of the Nantlle ridge. The hillside location gives great views from all windows over the slopes of Moel Hebog, and there are stunning walks for all ages and abilities right from the door.

The garden and grounds alone have plenty to explore - our daughter loved spotting the countless frogs hiding in the garden pond, although you'll need to keep a close eye on any toddlers.

Further afield, there are castles and beaches galore, with Criccieth and Caernarfon in easy reach. Plenty of good places to stop and eat - Allports in Porthmadog is brilliant for fish and chips, and Cadwalader's in Criccieth is worth a visit for ice creams.

Ty Gilfach's remote location does mean you need to plan ahead a little: "Popping out to the shop" even for bread and milk is not just a ten-minute trip.

Upon arrival at this breathtaking Cottage, we were delighted with beauty and comfort! The fact that the Christmas tree was decorated and the fire is ready to light, and there is complimentary wine really is an added surprise too! Everything you could possibly conceive is catered for - from kitchen, lounge, bathroom to bedrooms, and everything is stylish, comfortable and more importantly welcoming. Waking up in the morning to the magnificent views really is heavenly. All in all, with the tranquility and stunning location this really is a place to unwind, relax and to truly get away from the mundane everyday! Fantastic place to celebrate a truly memorable Christmas! Truly a beautiful Cottage you'll want to visit again and again!

Our experience was very positive from beginning to end. Our email reservation was promptly replied to and questions answered right away. The house was as we had seen it on the web site, secluded, large, clean, welcoming and comfortable. All instructions were clear and easy to understand. Our welcome party of 5 sheep were there to say good bye this morning and escort us back to the cattle grid :)The region is amazing and has so much to offer. We only scratched the surface.

      Delightful isolated welsh hilside cottage

Left on 09/19/2011 for a stay in September 2011

Far from the stresses of a busy life, we travelled down windy roads and immersed ourselves in the solitude of the spectacular Snowdonia region..Past fields of grazing sheep and ramshacked ruins of barns, the road runs alongside clear fresh bubbling mountain streams then we arrived at the comfortable tastefully restored cottage.
Although there were only 3 people in our party we decided to take up the whole house although it was possible to simply rent the cottage with less bedrooms at a reduced rate. We had a lovely stay.We spent several cosy evenings chilling out in front of the blazing log fires.Don't be put off by the rather exhaustive lists of rules, all they seem to want is for visitors to respect their well kept property. There s an adjoining smaller cottage which was fully booked during our stay.

      Response from SnowdoniaCountryCottages.co.uk - 09/20/2011

      SnowdoniaCountryCottages.co.uk

      Owner

      Dear Mr Byng,

Just a quick note to say thank you very much for your great review on Trip Advisor – it is very much appreciated!

Concerning WI-FI at the time of your visit we were waiting for BT to come and install it which actually happened the day you left – would you believe! The reason for not originally putting in WI-FI is the distance from the exchange – 3.5 miles which potentially makes service unreliable. Unfortunately since installation we have found this to be true so we have had to withdraw the service from our website and we no longer offer it as part of the booking.

That said we have kept WI-FI in the property for our own personal use and give the code to visitors to use if it is working but like I say we cannot offer it as a service due to the unreliability of the connection. The one drawback of a remote property!

Anyway we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and thanks once again for your review.

Kind Regards Ray & Marie Forster

Great views, the sound of waterfalls all around, sheep the only other sound!
Sumptuous beds, a TV bigger than at home, a kitchen both homely and modern.
We were swooped by an eagle in the car in the valley, bought fresh eggs from the farmer up the lane - and had a wonderful time!
Beaches, Portmerion and the Ffestiniog Railway all within an easy drive - and a great chip shop in Cricieth!
      Heartily recommended.

      Wonderful!

Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We, Paul,Alison and teenage daughter Serena, have never been to Wales before so it was a bit of an adventure! We followed the directions sent to us by Marie and Ray, the owners, and found the property without any problems.
Ty Gilfach, which is actually named on the ordnance survey map, is a lovely Grade II listed, cottage with views over their gardens, the valley and mountains beyond.
The cottage has everything you would want in a home. The furnishings are modern and comfortable. The kitchen has been equipped with quality pots, pans, crockery etc and also has a BBQ outside on the terrace next to a table and six chairs for outside dining, or just sitting enjoying the view.
There were too many choices of places to visit for our short trip. Along with walking we went to Black rock sands, Harllech and a wonderful trip on the Ffestinog railway. Next time we are going to visit the National Slate Mines and Caenarfon amongst others.
We are looking forward to our next visit and have already recommended Ty Gilfach to our friends.
Hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we all did.

Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Ty Gilfach sits on a hillside over looking the valley giving ever changing and spectacular views. The cottage is comfortable and very well equipt and a perfect place to get away from it all. Our one year old daughter enjoyed the toys provided in the play room and the owners kindly took her safety into consideration by errecting stair gates specially for our visit. There are plenty of walks to be taken from the cottage and we were treated to some beautiful spring sunshine for our stroll up to the waterfall. We barely saw another soul during our stay there and thouroughly enjoyed the beauty and remoteness of it all. We hope to be back.

      Magnificent Farmhouse – Magnificent Views!

Left on 10/22/2010 for a stay in October 2010

One can only say wow when opening the door for the first time! No expense has been spared by the owners - traditional and beautifully contemporary rolled into one! Original traditional oak beams, 3ft walls, wonderful fireplace and stove made us realise we had made the right choice! However the best was yet to come. The views in the morning when we woke up were astounding. No wonder the person who reviewed the cottage next door referred to Cwm Pennant as the Uk's best kept secret!

For those who have little ones (our daughter is a teenager now) there is a wonderful little playroom just off the lounge. We would have loved it when she was small and so would she. It is winter now but the garden is lovely and the whole property set within 50 acres with its own river. There is no need to leave the valley with wonderful walks from the doorstep but we did venture further afield and visited Black Rock Sands beach, the Ffestiniog railway and Portmeirion. The area has so much to explore.

The owners were warm and welcoming and we cannot recommend this holiday farmhouse more highly. We will be back! Thank you
