28970May or may not be "Very Quiet."
Left on 01/29/2012 for a stay in January 2012
I specifically chose Rimfire 419 for a snowboarding weekend with my husband because of its central location in the Village and ultimately because the title described the property as "very quiet."
First, the good. The check-in process through Snowshoe Properties Management was completely painless, simple, and quick. The condo was very clean and seemed to be well-maintained. We didn't use the kitchen to cook, but it was fully stocked with all of the essentials needed to prepare meals. The bathroom was immaculate, and plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. The hot water and the water pressure in the shower were great. We didn't use the fireplace, but it was in working order. We weren't able to use the wired Internet access because we didn't bring a device with an Ethernet jack, so I can't speak to the Internet service, but there was a cable. The location of Rimfire is perfect for easy access to everything - it's right in the middle of the Village and just minutes away from all of the main shops and restaurants, and steps from the slopes. The storage locker on the first floor was convenient and just barely large enough to hold our two snowboards with bindings. (Note: lockers are assigned by condo number, and some of the lockers were half the size of ours.) We appreciated the secure, underground parking - we were able to park our car and just leave it all weekend. Entry to the building, garage, storage lockers and the condo itself was secure. The Starbucks downstairs was a nice bonus. The view from the deck is lovely. I actually requested not to be Village-facing, but somehow we did end up in a condo that overlooked the Village. It's a pretty view of the quaint shops and restaurants, but it does mean more noise. More on that below.
The bad: the queen bed was made up with inexpensive, scratchy linens, and the mattress on the wobbly bed frame felt cheap and not very comfortable - lumpy, hot, and just...cheap. The pull-out sofa, which we tried out of desperation, was even worse - typical painful bar-in-the-back. And though it's not terribly important, but it would be nice if the TV could be upgraded. And yes, there's only one elevator as other reviewers pointed out, but we're pretty patient and the wait didn't seem that bad. It's true that the stairwells reek of cigarette smoke, so we did tend to wait for the one slow elevator.
The ugly: I am a light sleeper, but even my husband who is a heavier sleeper was unable to get a good night's sleep either night during our stay. Rimfire 419 is almost at the very end of the hall on the top floor of the North building, which I'm sure is why the description says it's "very quiet," but our neighbors were incredibly loud and the noise went well into what anyone would consider normal quiet hours. Their partying (shouting, slamming doors, very loud music, etc.) lasted continuously until after 3am. We were right next door so of course we were affected (the music was so loud that our walls were shaking), but the noise could be heard from several rooms down, and surely from below. I'm certain we were not the only guests that suffered loss of sleep. I understand that the property owner has no control over the noise, but the property management company or the building management/security did not remedy the situation even after we notified them twice. There's no front desk or anyone on-site to assist, either. Note that this noise was in addition to the general noise from people in the Village below. That said, at least we were on the top floor and were not also listening to heavy-booted feet walking above.
Including taxes, fees, and the in-season rate, we paid approximately $360 per night, and for that I expected at least my very basic requirements to be met: safe, clean, and comfortable for sleeping. I would recommend this rental to a friend, but with the caveat that it is probably the luck of the draw as far as "very quiet" goes, and not to depend on a great night's sleep in a cozy bed. An upgraded mattress, and an enforced quiet hours policy (even if it was just from Midnight to 6am) would change my rating from a 3 to a 5.
