Newport News, VirginiaGreat home! 4/5
Left on 12/20/2012 for a stay in December 2012
This is my second time renting a property from Mountain valley. The receptionist was very courteous and helpful and reserving this home was very easy. The home was well stocked with all of the neccesities; kitchen supplies, towels, linens, etc.
The layout of the home is great. The bottom floor was great for storing our ski equipment. The hot tub was small but we fit 4 people in it at a time comfortably. The sauna is just icing, and works very well. The middle floor was very spacious and great for relaxing together as a group. The top loft floor has a nice room and a couple of extra beds. We were able to sleep 8 people very comfortably, and probably could have fit another 3 or 4. Parking was fine, we had 4 or 5 cars outside and around the cabin.
The location is pretty good, and the shuttle service to and from the top of the mountain is priceless. Every time we called the shuttle they were at the home within 10 minutes.
There wasn't one particularly nice thing that stuck out about this home, but there were no complaints either. Don't rent this home expecting luxury and all that. It is after all a mountain "cabin" and that is exactly what you are getting. It feels very "homey" and after a long day on the slopes it's a nice place to relax and enjoy the company of your friends/family.
I will likely continue to look at the west ridge homes when I come up to snowshoe. If you are spending more than 1 night on the mountain with a group of 6 or more, these homes really provide the best experience in my opinion. -

Fairfax, VAA little dated but good for the price
Left on 09/14/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We came up for a mountain bike weekend in September. Weather was perfect, about 70 for highs and upper 50s for lows. The house was plenty big and clean, but a bit dated. Initially it had a strange musty odor, but cleared up after we opened up some windows and doors (or we just got used to it). The house was spacious, but we mostly sat outside on the deck. The ad touts satellite TV, but it must have only been a lower priced tier, because we seemingly only got infomercial channels, no weather channel, no movie channels, etc. Not a big deal because we didn't watch much. If it rained this would have been a different story. The WiFi would connect, but never actually worked. Once again, if it was raining and we couldn't ride, this would have been a much bigger deal. We just used the free WiFi in the village when we went up every day. The ipod hook-ups were well used. The view was probably better when it was built (late 80's), now the trees block most of the westerly view. Since we mostly cooked for ourselves, we needed a few more pots and pans than were provided. Check in and out was easy, picked up the packet at the office (after hours) and then dropped the keys off when we left (Sunday and they were closed). Convenient location to the bike trails, just coast out of the driveway, pedal for about 1/8 mile, and drop in. Coming back from the top where the lift or shuttle drops you is all downhill, except for the driveway. The hot tub is more of a 'hot barrel', think that 70's show. 3 people max in it, and it is in a dark basement room next to the sauna. All in all, not too bad and everything went OK, but I would probably stay somewhere else next time.

Manager
Hi Adam, We appreciate your choosing N. W. Ridge 116, a super location and a great property. It is unfortunate that you did not contact our office so we could help with any of the problems you might have encountered. During the month of September if noone was in the office we did have the phones transfered to a cell phone so we are always available for our guests. We do let our guests know that we have a basic kitchen set up and if there are any special pots/pans/knives that you can't live without to bring them along and/or if an extra stock pot is needed we keep extras for our guests to borrow. This property is very iconic for our mountain and great feelings of family and friends fill the entire house. Having 2 kitchens, 2 living areas and 2 wood burning fireplaces is very "not typical" and enjoyed by many. Also, I see that you reserved online we would have made contact with our guest prior to arrival so we could be sure you would be comfortable upon arrival and to answer any questions. The hot tub is indoor and it is the round deep soaking tub max. 3 people (your right) and it does show a picture online. Also, on the WiFi and satellite is all bundled through the phone company maybe just neeeded to call which i would have done had I known.
Thanks,
Debbie Goodwin -

We loved this house, the two kitchens are ideal for large groups. The hot tub and sauna were very nice to come back to after a long day skiing. Overall great experience.

Amazing house with a good location. About a 200' walk to Cupp Run. Sleeping arrangements and ammenities were incredible.
Please purchase more pans - there is only 1 12" pan for the entire house. Cooking scrambled eggs for 12 people was nearly impossible. -

We had six guys on a "Mancation" Ski trip. No wives. No kids. Overall, the place was great.
Plenty of room and very warm. close proximity to the mountain, but it is a Black Diamond trail. This issues that we had were cosmetic, mostly.
1. The Jacuzzi is very...dated.
2. The Stereo/DVD player didn't work.
3. They said there was a grill but...it was locked in the shed.
4. Downstairs regfrigerator was not working.
The service at the mountain was OUTSTANDING. As well as the shuttle service. Even with the little glitches , it was a really great time.
