Merci Monsieur Bill !

What can I say… We had a wonderful time at Casa Playa Maya. We stayed two weeks in the upper casita (studio) with the beautiful brick ceiling and small kitchen.
Bill is a wonderful host – he made our booking and stay so easy and comfortable.
My wife and thought we would get away from the weather and work from the beach in Mexico, so we found Casa Playa Maya and Bill. We were concerned about the bandwidth from our casita and Bill went above and beyond to ensure I would feel comfortable with the bandwidth – I set up a webex and he went to the balcony of the casita and took the call. Wow, amazing ! Thanks Bill!!! . Once we got to CPM Bill provided all sorts of help, maps, grocery stores and references to great restaurants.
I can't say enough about Bill and CPM – If your considering a place in Tulum give Bill a call – It will be well worth it. Oh did I say great snorkeling. We can't wait to go back!!Response from Sr. Bill - 03/08/2013

This home is incredibly beautiful - the perfect place for a vacation getaway. It's beautifully furnished, lots of space for a number of people and well stocked with everything you need. The beach and Solimon Bay are breathtaking. The other homes in the area are beautiful, the people are so friendly and nice and there's a great hotel/restaurant just a short walk down the beach.
There is nothing like drinking your morning coffee right on the beach! And, with full time security for the area, we felt absolutely safe and well cared for.Response from Sr. Bill - 06/21/2012

This place is great and he could charge twice as much and it would still be an excellent value. We had 9 days of privacy and relaxation. Bill knows everything about the area and has great local insight. Lidia is an angel who cleans every day and can even cook some of the best Yucatan and Mexican cuisine right in the comfort of you beach house. The only bad thing I have to say is we had to leave. I could have sat on that beach for years.
This place totally rocks.Response from Sr. Bill - 05/27/2012

This is the ideal Caribbean beachfront rental. We loved it. Stayed here for a week, would stay a month if we could. My wife, two teenagers and I all cannot wait to go back. Very comfortable, beautiful houses on the beach, all the amenities (even HBO and WiFi!). Coral reef snorkeling just 50 feet off the beach. That is why Soliman Bay is the best spot on the Yucatan. Thatch roofs, teak adirondack chairs, hammocks, kayacking, aqua blue water, tequila. Always a cooling breeze, not a single mosquito ever! We used our unit's kitchentte for breakfast and some lunches, ate in nearby Tulum restaurants most dinners, lots of good quality. The owner, Senor Bill, and staff live next door (this is a huge plus), runs the place like a family compound, all warm and fuzzy. If you go, use a scuba diving guide to dive both the coral reef and a cenote (underground rivers, limestone caverns). Senor Bill advised us on all the local insider knowledge, he's your personal concierege and local shaman. Don't forget to try the cook's ceviche and guacamole, have Bill schedule you a massage from the beautiful Italian masseuse three houses down beach.

The accommodation was clean and the extremely friendly Bill and Lidia made us feel at home.I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough and when visiting this part of Mexico again will definetely visit Senor Bill again...

The bay is heavenly and thats just above water! Under water, the snorkelling is amazing. Loads of brightly coloured marine life, rays and turtles dancing and shimmering in the warm water and hanging out in the near private 600 yard reef complete with some great coral.
The house is hand built and decorated eclectically yet thoughtfully. This is authentic cool not veneered chic - its imperfections adding to its perfection.
Lydia the maid doubles as gastronomic miracle worker if you like authentic Mexican food. And if you like fresh seafood, walk 10 minutes up the bay to the deservedly famous beach shack that serves the best ceviche and fresh seafood we came across in the area.
This is a peaceful enclave with no pass through tourism but If you need excitement or scarlet red tourist crowds, the main attractions are a short drive away as are the uber chic restaurants and boutique hotels of Tullum. Wallets emptied you can escape back to this delightful place.

How can you beat waking up to the sound of soothing waves while in the company of the rising sun? Add a cup of joe in your hand, soft powder sand beneath your feet & warm water brushing each step you take. Coffee will never be the same again!! I just love that Casa Playa Maya is right in the middle of the bay. The main house is simply beautiful, very cozy & well kept. The rooms & bathrooms are spacious & immaculate. I had my own TV/DVD, microwave, toaster, mini fridge & coffee maker. Although who needs a TV with paradise outside? I felt like I was kayaking and snorkeling in my own private beach. There is also an amazing restaurant, Sahara, on the bay. You can drive there in less than five minutes or opt for the scenic route via your feet & sand through their beachfront entrance. Tulum and akumal are only a few minutes away. I recommend renting a vespa to see the ruins. Fun!! The staff was exceptional. They were very welcoming & accomodating. They made my stay that much more special and my leaving that much harder. No doubt the most relaxing vacation I've ever had. Now that I know all this exists in one place, I will be back every year. Already began assembling a group for 2011. Looking forward to returning. Thank you very much Bill!

gemuetlich in Einem.(u.a. riesig hoher, gut durchluefteter aufenthaltsraum, viel Holz, schoenes Mobiliar, an anderer Stelle ausreichend + zutreffend beschrieben, immer warmes Wasser und Strom)

VirginiaPlaya Maya was our best family vacation ever!
Left on 04/24/2010 for a stay in January 2010
Our family of 14 (adults from age 72 down to kids 3-13 years of age) stayed for two weeks at Casa Playa Maya and we all agree it was our best destination vacation ever! We've all traveled individually and as a family to various vacation spots in Mexico, and this was our 3rd trip to the Cancun area, but it was by far the best place and stay we had.
The house is situated on one of the prettiest and sheltered bays for snorkeling around. We literally stepped off our sandy beach into the water and were in another world, seeing fish of all colors and even a turtle! The house also comes with kayaks, which we used daily along the aqua blue bay. With the sand, palm trees and plants and the amazing water, each day was a paradise for the adults and an adventure for the kids.
The kitchen is fully equipped, the beds are comfortable and rooms spacious, and the TV is Satellite for those little ones who rise early.
Bill has great tips and knows the surrounding area and things that are "must dos" if you never been to Tulum, but I must say that whenever we ventured out, we'd come back to our Casa Maya and think to ourselves, "this is the best place around." There was no reason to go anywhere but shopping, which can all be done 10 min away in Tulum, and that's coming from a group that likes to do and see it all.
Casa Playa Maya has it all as far as amenities, location, and wonderful manager who is a wealth of knowledge and great fun. We'll certainly be coming back!Response from Sr. Bill - 12/04/2010

During the past 2 years I have stay at Casa Playa Maya twice and had a great time during both stay. The first trip I had the big house and spend wonderful week entertaining friends. Rooms, kitchen house in general was well equipped. Satellite TV, high speed internet (not always what I want) grill not much more to ask for.
Soliman Bay is amazing. Protected by a reef the kayaking and snorkeling was super. THe house has nice chairs and lounges, some water sport equipment. Only thing a couple of our friends questioned was the sea grass beds along the immediate shore, I don't mind them. They keep the beach in place and they are very easy to walk or swim past. -

We always enjoy visiting the coast of the Yucatan peninsula especially the area between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Upon arrival at the Cancun airport, I recommend that you rent a car and drive South to Akumal and vicinity. We’ve stayed in dozens of casitas along the Yucatan coast and visited 8 months out of 12. We have never stayed in an all inclusive resort preferring instead to take advantage of the excellent restaurants in the area. Once I took my sister to the Yucatan in May to celebrate her graduation from College. A few years ago and we spent three weeks in December to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Several years ago we met Bill Kohler in Akumal. Bill has built an absolutely beautiful place on Soliman Bay and he was our host for our stay this past October 2009. It was great to stay with someone like Bill who knows the area so well. Bill’s villa and casitas are located right on the bay. The water was warm and the breeze off the Bay was wonderful. We took our laptop and listened to the Yankees and Indiana Hoosiers in our casita at night. Soliman Bay is located between Akumal to the North and Tulum to the South. A short 5 minute drive took us to Akumal to the fruit and vegetable market. We also picked up fresh tortillas and ice cold cerveza in the pueblo. We drove 15 minutes South to Tulum and walked the cool, white beaches that go on for several miles. We went to Soliman Bay for the sun, warm water, gentle breezes and the pace but primarily because we love the people who live in the area. In fact we seldom leave without already beginning to plan our next trip and intend to go again in the Spring.

Left on 12/13/2009 for a stay in October 2009
We have just finished our second stay at Casa Playa Maya on Solimon Bay, near Tulum, in Quintana Roo. Our first stay was for a week several years ago and we vowed at the end we'd return, this time we did but for two weeks. Again, we are vowing to return! Many reviewers have noted the Mayan charm and beauty of the home and its two casitas which can accommodate up to 14 on this quiet, sandy beachfront. The humor, warmth and hospitality exuded by owner "Senor Bill" Koller is a memorable part of any stay and his staff of Oscar and Daisy make living easy. If you provide the fixings (available at modern supermarkets just a few minutes drive away) they'll even prepare your meals.
We are naturalists, amateurs, not professionals. If you fit either classification, Casa Playa Maya and its environs is the place for you. Birders will glory in the wealth of pelicans, cormorants, Magnificent Frigatebirds, herons, egrets, kingfishers, long-tailed grackles, Bananaquits, terns and swallows. The mangrove swamps along the road to Casa Playa Maya are an important part of the waterfowl and other avian migration route and they are home to thousands of birds. The reef-protected Solimon Bay is a snorkeler's delight with its tropical fish, conchs and sea turtles, not to mention the excitement of nearby freshwater cenote swimming and exploring for the adventurous. The world-famed Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is just a short drive away with magnificent, pristine beaches leading the way to its fantastic array of flora and fauna, over 300 bird species including toucans, flamingos and parrots.
The Mayan culture begins in full force at Tulum with its famous ocean cliff ruins and then miles of jungle studded with numerous other cultural sites, some yet to be discovered! Many Mayans still wear traditional clothing which adds to the excitement of your exploration.
Casa Playa Maya is the perfect spot for just relaxing, enjoying nature or exploring this wonderful part of Mexico. Just tell "Senor Bill" what your wishes are and he will help fulfill them based on years of personal knowledge developed in his adopted homeland (he is a native New Yorker!)Response from Sr. Bill - 12/13/2009

Bloomington Indiana2 weeks was not enough!
Left on 12/06/2009 for a stay in October 2009
I have been vacationing on the Yucatan since the early 1990s, my favorite
area is the corridor from Akumal to Tulum. Now I have found a perfect
place to stay and enjoy this area, Casa Playa Maya on Soliman Bay.
Beginning with the owner Bill Koller, his staff Oscar and Daisy, and the cool
beach dogs the entire experience was wonderful throughout my stay. The
house is a work of Mayan art and it's amenities satisfy a vacationer's needs.
Nice bedrooms with quality mattresses, ceiling fans and air conditioning
when needed. The kitchens contain all the necessary accessaries, the living
area is generous and comfortable, the lighting romantic, satellite TV and
internet connection are provided and then there is the place you will
probably spend the most time, the palapa covered porch sitting right on
Soliman Bay. Here is where one can relax in a hammock, read, nap,
sunbathe on lounge chairs, enjoy a drink and just lose oneself in all the
beauty of the bay. Snorkeling gear and kayaks give access to water and Bill
is a treasure of information and tips on how to experience the Yucatan.
Restaurants, shopping and groceries are 10 minutes away in Tulum, a funky
pueblo filled with tourists from around the world and also the awesome
Mayan people of this region. Tulum is the home of spectacular ruins that sit
on a bluff over the sea and south of the ruins are beaches that stretch for
miles, so beautiful are these beaches and the water that I cannot describe
them adequately, just go there and see them for yourself. Away from the
coast the jungle contains fresh water cenotes (open pools of ground water)
and caves where one can snorkel in cool, clean freshwater. Bill's remarkable
place can accommodate 2, 4, 6, 8 and more if children are included, a large
group would not fell constrained in this spacious house and the 2 casitas
that are on the property. I suggest getting your best friends together, your
family, or just come by yourself and enjoyResponse from Sr. Bill - 12/13/2009

This is a quiet, calm, beautiful place with one of the worlds most phenominal beaches. The facilties are up scale and the staff friendly and very helpful. Snorkeling is absolutley fantastic. The general area is loaded with plenty to do via local bus or rental cars. Cenote diving, Mayan ruins, and plenty of shopping either in Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
If you do not want to cook, Mr. Koller, [Sr. Bill] can arrange for a cook and all you do is provide the goods, relax and enjoy the sand, the sea,the sunset and the food!Response from Sr. Bill - 12/13/2009

indianaStill the best-kept secret on the Mayan Riviera
Left on 07/18/2009 for a stay in July 2009
115 kilometers south of the bustle of the Cancun is the quiet pristine
Soliman Bay just north of the little town of Tulum. We first stayed at Casa
Playa Maya in 1999 and have returned to the bay several times since. It's a
lovely beach side house with two bedrooms and a loft with twin beds. For
large groups there are two casitas in the rear that bring the total occupancy
up to 14. All the homes on Soliman bay are beautiful and restful and Playa
Maya is no exception. It has a fully equipped kitchen, including microwave
and since our first visit has added satellite television with HBO and Cinemax
and wireless internet access and a big outdoor gas grill. Most of the houses
on the bay rely on the sea breezes to keep cool, and we still prefer that, but
only a few have air conditioning for the really hot days. Playa Maya has air
conditioning in the bedrooms. There are kayaks available and snorkeling
equipment ready for trips out on the bay, though we liked just sitting on
the porch in a hammock and enjoying the beautiful scenery. If you get
tired of that, you just step off the porch onto the beach.
The real bonus at Casa Playa Maya is the owner, Bill Koller. Bill is a
transplanted American who lives on the property and can help you with
anything you need. He gives advice about how to not be ripped off by the
gas station attendants, how to get the best exchange rate for your dollars,
where to eat, what to go see and what to avoid. If you ask, he'll take you
out in a kayak and show you the best places to snorkel around the reef in
the bay. He's a treasure.
Every time we think we need to take a Mexico vacation we consider going
someplace new, but so far we keep coming back to Soliman Bay.
But shhh, don't tell anyone how wonderful it is here. The beach and water
are never crowded, unlike other nearby locales, and we'd like to keep it that
way. But even if all the houses on the bay were filled to capacity, it still
wouldn't be crowded.Response from Sr. Bill - 12/13/2009
