Description from the owner
Just completed Nov. of 2011, this beautiful 3 bed, 3 bath beachfront home sits right on the white sands of Soliman Bay. A gated, secure community of 38 homes on a private bay that is quiet and tranquil, even in the busy high tourist season.
The turquoise Caribbean waters of Soliman are situated along the second largest Reef in the world, and are filled with corals and a wide variety of Sea life. Colorful schools of Fish, Rays, Sea Turtles, Puffers and Barracuda are just a few of the creatures that grace these waters. The water is calm thanks to the protective reef which runs between the two points of Soliman, providing safety from the o...Read more

Even after one year I am thinking about is place. It was a time of sanctuary and peace!
The property has everything you need and the on site care takers are extremely attentive!
White sandy beach, open crystal blue wasters with a reef not to far out, which you can get to by using the onside kayak and snorkelling gear.
Do take advantage of the care takers offer of dinner, it was delicious. -

What an amazing place - total paradise - white sandy beach, turquoise water...
I stayed here for 3 days with my husband and 1 year old son. After the hustle and bustle of Cancun and 5 days in Cozumel this was a very welcome sight. We stayed in Lu'um which is a studio, one bathroom open plan beach bungalow.
Location:
- right on the beach. Very private & off the beaten path.
- 10 minute drive to Tulum. I would definitely recommend renting a car if staying here.
- 2 minute walk from an upscale contemporary restaurant , the Sahara Cafe
amenities:
- kayaks available for use. Bring your own snorkeling gear.
- hammocks & deck chairs on beach
- the caretaker Victoria cleaned the bungalow once a day
- no washer & dryer
- no dishwasher
- internet access was sporadic so ensure you come here to relax and not be 'connected'
Jeannette & Skip were great hosts - the fridge was stocked with milk, eggs and some other items which was very welcome as we arrived late at night.
This was truly an amazing stay and we will be back in the near future. -

This is our twenty-ninth year coming to Q. Roo from the North East. We’ve stayed at hotels, all-inclusive resorts, etc. With every trip, we’ve gravitated farther and farther south of Cancun, which is a great place for what it is, but has become a big noisy city for many of us who have been doing this for a while.
We discovered Soliman Bay two years ago, and Nah Uxibal last February (2012) This place is a beautiful secret, one that I’m almost hesitant to give away. The bay is open and airy, as is the two story Ka'an accommodation in the newest building in the Nah Uxibal complex. It has everything you’ll need to cook for yourself and to relax with plenty of room to be right at home. It is a very comfortable property. The lovely outside transitional area between the road that separates the mangrove and the properties beachside at Nah Uxibal is green, cool and inviting.
Caretakers-on-site Javier and Victoria are lovely, gracious hosts - very helpful. They’re there when you need them and not when you don’t, like good neighbors you might wish you had back home. The dogs of Soliman Bay are friendly and good company.
For those of you who are new to this area, Soliman Bay is a great jumping off location for visiting the ruins at Coba, Tulum and even Chichen-Itza for a longer trip. General shopping and groceries are minutes away. A visit to Playa del Carmen and even the ferry to Cozumel is just north, up the road. A rental car is a must.
Here’s some general pros and cons. Some of this will not be important to many of you. Some of it will be very important:
Pros - Beautiful property. As noted, we stayed at the Ka’an (second and third floors in the new Nah Lu’um Ka'an). The space is airy and comfortable. Don’t worry about the lack of a/c. You won’t need it. In fact, several nights during our stay were actually very cool. The windows and their placement around the second and third floor living space make it easy to bring enough ocean air in. The kitchen is nicely stocked with everything you could want. The appliances are new and in very good working order. The furniture is in good shape, too. Outside on the beach is sporting equipment, and we enjoyed the kayaks and hammocks under the coconut trees just steps away from the water.
There is a security team on-site and they are vigilant. Although I don’t know if there were safety issues with security previously, there seems to be no problem now.
Cons - The dirt road in from Rte 307 between Soliman Bay and Nah Uxibal is very rutted, pitted and pot-holed. This is not Nah Uxibal’s fault solely, but I’m wondering if there’s a sort of informal association among the property owners there, as well as the Hotel Jashita and the Sahara Cafe restaurant at the beginning of the road. Might this be addressed at some point? In any case, this may not be the place to go if you’ve just had spine surgery, your appendix out or a hip replaced. The road is quite bad.
WiFi: If you’ve read on the owner’s web site that Wifi is available here, please note that it was spotty at very best while we were there. Poor Javier was always being called upon by all of us there during our stays to reset the modem/router, although we were never sure if this was the real problem. Many people cannot be away from their businesses, employment or families without being connected to the Internet, and it is not a good thing to have guests believe something is available when it is not. 3G smartphone connectivity is good as a back-up idea, even though it can be a fairly expensive thing even with a temporary international plan, and without the Wifi at Nah Uxibal working at least a good portion of the time, you might be spending more money than you planned for this.
The sea grass in the bay is replete with ocean life, and this is an extremely interesting spot to snorkel (my husband did a lot of that), but it is not the easiest to transverse if swimming is your only plan. There’s fish, turtles, rays, etc. beyond the grass, but it becomes a serious task not to step on anything living. For those who don’t like anything but a sandy beach, this may not be for you. For the ten days we were there, I didn’t go in the water, except to kayak. This is the first time I’ve been to this part of the world and have not gone swimming in the ocean. However, the beach areas are quiet, clean and natural, and that is nice.
Eating Out: Chamicko’s Snack Shack at the end of the road heading south on the bay was close-by and ideal for a quick good meal mid-day. Don’t let its casual appearance fool you. Oscar & Lalo’s right across the entrance to Soliman Bay on Rte 307 headed south is wonderful for Mexican food. For a special night out, try the more pricey Sahara Cafe at the Hotel Jashita at the northern-most end of Soliman Bay.Response from Jeannette Moffett - 12/07/2012
Owner
Thank you so much for your kind review Karen, we are so glad that you were able to come and enjoy our new home on Soliman Bay. I just wanted to respond to a few of your comments.
I'm sorry the road was in such bad shape when you came, it is true that timing is everything for the road. Every year after rainy season (around Nov) the road has taken a beating from the heavy rains and storms. Then, every year, after the rains have stopped (early Dec or so) it is smoothed and graveled. The work is actually happening as I write this and this time with very big equipment so we are promised that road will even do well through the next rainy season. Anyway, in a few days the road will be smooth once again. It is an ongoing process to maintain a graveled road in the tropics and it will probably eventually be paved. Since this is a short private road (only about 1 mile) the owners of the homes on the bay are responsible and we do our best to maintain it.
The tropical elements can also make the internet connection intermittent, but it is usually better than what you experienced and I'm sorry that you found it to be lacking. Often waiting an hour or two and trying again is all that is needed in those situations. Since we are right on the water the elements are strong and do effect the internet while there is high winds or rain. My husband and I just returned and the connection was fine once again while we were there. Again, timing seems to be is everything in the tropics and these small things are the price we pay for the beautiful setting right on the water along the incredible Maya Riviera Coastline.
It is true that the sea grass is teaming with life when you came in Nov. (there are lots of babies born over the summer) Our bay is essentially a nursery since it is so protected by the reef and is also what allows the coral to grow so large and beautiful in the bay. There are trails that you can walk through the grass on the north end of the bay. Also, in front of Uxibal I always go barefoot in the grass with no problem, although you cannot do that everywhere. The seagrass is an essential part of the ecosystem of the bay, providing food and protection for all kinds of species, and therefore what makes Soliman have some of the best snorkeling on the coastline. Another option that many of our guests choose is to bring water shoes. The seagrass is the short species and only goes to about a 2 feet depth, after that it is sand and coral.
Hope you will come back and enjoy Uxibal in the future Karen, and next time swim and snorkel, it is simply amazing there. Thanks for your review and the opportunity to respond. Happy Holidays!
Warmly,
Skip and Jeannette Moffett

Our stay at Nah Lu'um Ka'an was pure joy. The environment at the Soliman bay was peaceful and incredibly beautiful. Nah Lu'um Ka'an was comfortable, clean, and elegant, and caretakers Javier and Vittoria were efficient, kind, and welcoming. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place.

This beautiful home combined with the amazing view and beach was almost impossible to leave. To this day when I'm stressed I visualize our experience here in this slice of heaven. The home is so incredibly beautiful no photo will speak of it's beauty. I was very impressed with all the details, granite counters, teak outdoor furniture and a view to die for. The top bedroom opens up to the ocean with a great patio to kick back in. Romantic? Never seen any better.
The kitchen had more culinary appliances (brand new) than I own. Favorite was making coffee in the morning and drinking it down by the beach. My son's favorite was the hammock, not to mention the snorkeling of which we did daily.
We took advantage of the kayak, although it was very windy while we were there. The grounds are beautiful and we met some great people staying in and around the area. It did not surprise me that everyone staying in Jeanette's homes were all repeat visitors. We too will be back. -

Nah Lu'um Ka'an lived up to all it's hype and them some. This is a beautiful property right on the shores of the Carribean. The white sand beaches were inviting for a leisurely stroll along the ocean. Kayaks were provided for going out to the reef to snorkel.
The caretakers were very attentive and proud of the property. Their work ethic and quality of cleanliness was really appreciated. With the guard check point at the entry road into this neighbourhood, safety was not an issue.
Transportation into Tulum is a short 15 minutes away, with taxis available, although a car is much more convenient. Tulum has many small shops and 3 larger North american supermarkets.
The one small glitch was that the wireless internet was not all that reliable. -
