      great rural retreat!

Left on 01/22/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We stayed on the weekend and had a great time. The cottage is very characterful and furnished beautifully. The owners were very friendly and helpful and even dropped over home-made muffins for us.

Upon arrivial the place was spotlessly clean the fire was lit and they had music playing, a really nice touch after the car journey. It became like a home from home for the weekend relaxing in front of the fire after days out exploring the area. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom is top notch.

The local area is beautiful with plenty of places to explore and good local pubs and restaurants. The Stapleton arms in Buckhorn Western 10 mins drive away was a lovely rural pub and the food was excellent. You really can't fault this place for a weekend getaway or longer.

Lovely cosy but also modern cottage

Left on 05/24/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We had a wonderful time in this really excellent cottage which has great amenities such as well equipped kitchen and very modern bathroom and comfortable bedrooms. The main room is really cosy with a wood burner which we used every night during our visit in December after being out in the cold all day!

      We would recommend it

Left on 05/03/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Owners friendly and welcoming, yet left us in peace and much preparation had been made with the fire set, fresh flowers, and tea, coffee milk etc in place. Beds were made up and good quality towels provided. Highlight or low-light depending on your view was the grass snake in the living room which I was fascinated with but my wife was terrified of, and so she stood on a chair for some time. As part of this, I was asked to ensure there was nothing else hidden so moved rugs, furniture sofas etc to sweep the stone floor thoroughly which was when we discovered the months ./ years of fluff and dust under the sofas, which when aligned with a slightly grimy kitchen worktops, hob and cupboards suggest cleaning was more visual than thorough. I spent a good hour cleaning food off the worktops and cupboard doors, and grime off tables etc. Under the bed was akin to a furry forest of fluff etc but it soon swept up. Bathroom blind was broken and too short to cover the window. The little deck area was ideal to sit out, but like the house, in need of a tidy up with weeds through the path, and a number of filled black bin bags and jerry cans greeting our arrival, and remaining in place until the owners returned from their own trip on our 4th day. Road noise was high, as the main road is just a few yards away, but we perhaps should have though of this as we knew the location in advance, but presumed it was on a quiet road.

Nearby, best food we found was the Ship Inn at West Stour, and the Half Moon Inn at Horsington was well worth a visit, and is walking distance, and a pleasant walk at that if you’re prepared to follow the paths through fields etc rather then up the main road.

Overall, a lovely place for sound sleepers, in need of a ‘fresh eyes’ from the owners in terms of décor (quality of finish, not style) and hygiene, and perhaps a warning about the road noise.

      A home away from home

Left on 01/04/2011 for a stay in November 2010

This little cottage is tucked away in a corner, next to the larger house of the owners. We visited during a wet and icy few days and it was still delightful - so we are thinking of going back in the summer. The log fire was burning when we arrived, the kitchen is well-equipped and the bathroom and the bedroom are wonderful - spacious, warm and comfortable. This is a well cared for and well thought out letting property and would be perfect for a family or for a couple. We can heartily recommend it.

      5Star Cottage *****

Left on 12/21/2009 for a stay in April 2009

      This cottage exceeded our expectations!

Beautifully furnished, kitchen included everything one needs, comfortable bedrooms with lots of space in the wardrobes and a neat bathroom with plenty of towels. And everything in top shape and extremely clean!!!

Since we were there in April we were ever so pleased that a good central heating gave us a cosy stay.

Landlord even gave our son (9) a huge easter egg and the whole family were surprised with a nice "welcome package".

Location is in a small village and sadly the pub was closed during the whole week we stayed, but that is certainly out of the home-owners range of influences. A good bottle of red wine in the cottage certainly has it's positive aspects as well ;-)

Thanks folks...keep up the good standard!

      Lovely, comfortable holiday home

Left on 12/02/2009 for a stay in June 2009

Premises represented excellent value for money. Nicely decorated, clean and comfortable property with all home comforts. Car parking for 2 vehicles. Owners living in adjacent property were very helpful and friendly. This annexe is in a very good position for visiting surrounding areas and although the village itself was lacking in local pubs at the time of our visit (due to renovations), there were others to visit within short driving distances. The property is very handy for the nicely kept train station - with reasonably priced tickets available for day trips to Salisbury and beyond. The only thing lacking really was a nice garden in which to sit out on a summer's evening, although the annexe did overlook the owner's garden at the back. Worthy of note if you have children is the fact that this property is adjacent to a reasonably well used road and care would need to be taken with young ones around.
