New HampshireHospitable, lovely, convenient
Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My husband and I and another couple shared the suite. Ruma is extremely helpful and friendly - we were welcomed with a bowl of fruit, some snacks, and a bouquet of dahlias from her beautiful flower garden. Suite was very clean and well-appointed. The sleeping loft is only half-height, and requires a steep ladder-like staircase - but it worked fine for us. The murphy bed also was fine. There's an interesting over-the-sea boardwalk just a couple of blocks away. We ate at "Mom's Cafe", also just a few blocks away, and excellent. We would stay here again next time we come to Sooke.

ChicagoComfortable Place in Beautiful Sooke
Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My husband and I and our two kids stayed here for a few nights in august 2012 and really enjoyed it.
The location is great for hiking, kayaking, swimming in the potholes, and for touring Vancouver Island.
The host is extremely gracious and eager to help her guests. She took us to the best place for smoked salmon, shared delicious Indian food, and helped us with our other needs. The place is spotless, well designed and very comfortable.
Overall, a great place and somewhere we would definitely stay again. -

Ruma couldn't of been more welcoming, we felt at home instantly in this charming peaceful retreat. There was a lovely plate of fruit awaiting us and a bowl of snacks. The accomodation was lovely, clean and had everything we required for our stay. From watching the deer from the window to exploring the local area on foot, bicycle, bus and car, we had a wonderful stay, helped by Ruma with advice on where to visit . We only managed to stay a few days as understandably the accomodation was in high demand, we would definitely visit again . We cannot thank Ruma enough for her hospitality.

My wife, I and a family friend had the pleasure of staying one week in Sooke in august 2010. After a long day of traveling we were happily suprised by the fresh fruit tray that was left in the refrigerator for us by the properties owner Ruma Roy. The personal touch, generousity and keen insight given to us by Ruma really made the difference between a nice vacation and a great vacation. Ruma helped keep us away from the tourist traps and helped us find the real treasures the island has to offer. Private beaches, scenic drives, many levels of hiking trails, and solitude are just a few of the treasures we discovered here. Blackberries are in season in august and are found growing wildly all over the island. They are so plentiful that they seem like the local weed. A picture window readily offers ocean views (about 100 feet away) and a close up look at the wildlife (deers) that we often saw in the early morning on the property. The property is small but it is very clean, well stocked with pot's, pan's, dishes and utensils and the pride of ownership is easily seen throughout the property. The owner Ruma, made all of our hearts smile. We do hope to return.

GermanyA great vacation!

I had a wonderful time in Sooke and at Ruma's vacation home. After a warm reception by Ruma, I quickly settled into a very relaxing stay at her suite. So peaceful and enjoyable here with a wonderful view down to the Sooke Basin through large windows and a short walk to everything one needs in town. Nice little restaurants and a great coffee shop just up the road. And this area is blessed with wonderful beaches, ie. French Beach, China Beach. Just what I needed for a great vacation!

It is just a 10-min walk to our son's house. It was great to come here for peace & quiet after passing the day with our 2 young grandchildren. We love everything about the place, and especially the owner, Ruma. She brought us Indian food and is always ready to help out any way she can. We just love her. Also the deer came to visit us every day.

Left on 07/04/2010 for a stay in September 2009
Ruma tended to be gracious in getting me situated and doing what she could to make me feel welcome. The suite was easy enough to reach from Victoria and offered peace and quiet from which I was able to explore Whiffen Spit and other regional hiking trails. I especially enjoyed the loft with its skylight and Nat. Geo. magazines.

VancouverLovely place, terrific location
Left on 06/14/2010 for a stay in February 2010
Our stay at Ruma's guesthouse was very enjoyable. Her hospitality, combined with the clean, bathed-in-natural-light ambiance of the log house suite, really enhanced our three week stay in Sooke. From the living area there is a view of the water and mountains beyond, and it is just a few minutes to the ocean boardwalk. All this combined to make our stay a very positive and serene experience.

Winston Salem, NCQuiet and comfortable in Sooke
Left on 05/27/2010 for a stay in August 2009
The entrance is admittedly a little odd - through a converted garage, but don't let that put you off. The apartment itself is welcoming, light and very clean. Ruma is a dear and generously supplied us with fresh flowers from her garden, snacks and some delicious home cooked Indian food. I was a little concerned about the comfort level of a Murphy Bed, and no, it is not like sleeping on an 18" pillowtop, but it was quite adequate for a short term stay.

Left on 05/24/2010 for a stay in March 2010
Very efficient place to stay, close to the water and all that is available in Souke
and the southern coast of the island. Great bathroom and the place was well
heated. Our daughter loved the loft and the murphy bed for my wife and I was
comfortable. The owner is a very interesting and sweet lady who suggested
many places to visit, set up a kayak trip and invited us over for Indian food.
The place is a short walk to a supermarket where we bought food and
prepared our meals in a well equipped kitchen. In the other direction a short
walk to the public dock and the bay. Great place to stay. -

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway this is the place for you. The hospitality is wonderful. Location is great. You are close to a pier which provides an excellent opportunity for a leisure walk. Beaches are just a short drive away where you can enjoy your beach stroll then return to the comfy cozy "Charming Log House Suite". I recommend this lovely place in Sooke and plan to stay there again in the future.
