Additional Location Information
The town of Sorrento with its large selection of shops, bars and restaurants is just is few minutes walk away. Don't miss the centre of Sorrento's shopping district which is undoubtedly Via S. Cesareo. There are some lovely shops to enjoy here. Make sure you visit the weekly market in Sorrento as well, held every Tuesday throughout the year. The port of Sorrento is also within walking distance where you can catch boats to other destinations along the Amalfi coast.
The Amalfi Coast is an absolutely stunning stretch of coastline in Southern Italy. With breathtaking landscapes, the area offers the ultimate romantic getaway. As the road twists and turns along the cliffs, holidaymakers will come across some wonderful towns and quaint fishing villages. The coastline is also dotted with magnificent old houses and stunning gardens and, with it's great climate, holidaymakers will be able to combine sightseeing with relaxing afternoons in the sunshine.
Sorrento is an ideal base from which to explore all that the Amalfi coast has to offer. It is the starting point for numerous excursions. Visitors should make sure they don't miss a fascinating day trip to see the ruins of Pompei or the important archaeological town of Herculaneum. This can also be combined with a visit to Vesuvius to climb the volcano. Also not to be missed are the villages of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. The latter includes the famous Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, whilst Positano is famous for the winding staircase leading from the town to the cliffs above.
It's also worth taking a boat over to the elegant islands of Capri and Ischia. The islands can get busy during the Summer months but are worth seeing. For those who prefer to avoid the crowds, then why not head to the smallest of the islands in the Gulf of Naples - Procida. It's far less famous than it's larger neighbours but is still rich in attractions. Paestum and Naples are also worth visiting.
For those who like to be active during their stay, there is a sailing school and horse riding school located in Sorrento. You could also enjoy a day fishing.
For those who prefer to take it a bit easier on their holidays, why not relax on a mini cruise instead, maybe to see the Emerald Grotto, or just enjoy the wonderful beaches that are dotted along the coastline. You will be spoilt for choice for things to see and do during a holiday here!
