Description from the manager

Tamarind House is located just off the Anse Castanet Road. This exceptionally large house is constructed of local stone with high greenheart ceilings and Barbados tile floors throughout. The main house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, while the separate Cottage contains a master bedroom suite with its own living room, kitchenette, dressing area, marble bathroom and terrace. This house has been featured in The Macon magazine and the book "Caribbean Elegance" by Michael Connors as a result of the large collection of antique West Indian furniture it contains.

The totally private pool is situated below the Cottage and has 1060 sq ft...Read more

There is something magical about Tamarind. For me it was standing on the terrace doing yoga first thing in the morning (jetlag has its advantages!) from I could can see both the atlantic ocean and the Caribbean sea. For my husband it was the delicious lobster the hosts organised for lunch one day that were caught that morning. Our girls loved sundown drinks in the gazebo overlooking a breathtaking view.
The staff are really friendly and so kind to the children. They could not have been more helpful and it was lovely to have meals catered for us whenever we wanted.
The bedrooms are really comfortable with great mosquito nets (you will need them) and terraces. The location is up a bumpy track but its worth the ride for the view. The shops in the local town have excellent supplies for a caribbean island. There a lots of great seafood and steal restaurants and a brilliant beach bar where they do delicious happy hour cocktails. The only down side really was having to go home!

This villa is awesome!! The best views on the island!

Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Tamarind House cannot be described in pictures - you must experience it. It is so much more than just a vacation rental. The staff (Cook, maids, etd.) are the best I have ever seen. Very diligent and adaptable to our needs. The location is awesome, but the road up to the villa is a little rocky and narrow...but do not let this deter you. The villa is worth the ride to it! The rooms are elegant and charming without being sterile. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. I almost don't want to share my great experience so that I can keep this little gem all to myself. We were married at the villa in its first ever wedding ceremony. I have got to tell you...the wedding pictures are fantastic! And I must mention the cook and the array of delectable items she made for us. It was like being at a five star restautant. We ate like kings.

      Wonderful View! Lackluster Staff.

Left on 06/01/2011 for a stay in May 2011

The most striking thing about the house is the view! It's absolutely incredible. It has the most iconic Piton view and looks down on the ocean. Sunsets can be fantastic! The house itself is spacious and very open. The whole living area connects to the patio, making the main area of the house essentially a giant veranda. The bedrooms all also open to the patio. It does have a tennis court (with probably the best view you will ever have playing tennis) but it seems to be shared with one or several of the neighboring houses.

The staff did an excellent job cleaning and maintaining the property, but be aware that with a house that has no glass on any windows and is open to the outside, insects are inevitable. The staff was much less helpful when it came to cooking. They did cook our first meal and leave it in the refrigerator for when we arrived at the airport, but only offered to cook afterwards if we would go shopping and only between their hours of 9am to 3pm. Shopping in Soufriere can be a bit of a problem as the store seems to be a hangout for locals who like to harass tourists. (On the whole St. Lucians were very friendly and hospitable, but Soufriere was much less welcoming than other towns.) In short, do not plan on making heavy or exclusive use of private chef service.

Our trip also apparently coincided with the hottest time of the year on the island. Other tourists and locals were all complaining about the heat. As the house has no air conditioning, it was uncomfortably hot during the middle of the day and going to sleep at night. I'm sure this is rarely a problem, but I might consider looking for a property with a/C if your visit is in May.

Our stay at Tamarind House exceeded our expectations! The outstanding and friendly staff, the spectacular scenery and of stunning home, all combined for a truly magical week in St. Lucia. Working with Amanda at Luxury Retreats set the tone for our entire experience: professional, friendly and efficient. We will highly recommend both LuxuryRetreats and Tamarind House.

The villa was beautiful, spacious, private, well groomed and cleaned. There was plenty of space for our entire family. The pool and tennis court provided more than enough entertainment. The chef cooked great food and accommodated all our food requests. The owner of the house is very accessible and is a welcoming hostess.\n

      Our Stay at Tamarind House

Left on 10/27/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Tamarind house was a really exqusite villa. First of all the views were astounding. The house itself is so lovely and unique, I loved the decorating, lush gardens, overflowing potted plants and beautiful artwork. I also loved the thoughtful design of the home thick stone walls and beautiful vaulted ceilings, magnificent wooden doors, many open walls. In two of the bathrooms you can shower with beautiful Piton views. This home had an abundance of space and comfort for my family of five. The staff was wonderful and fixed us many lovely meals. We bought a beach club membership at Anse de Chastenet Beach resort just below the house. We rented kayaks and explored the island via water most days. Two of my children learned to sail using the resort\'s sun fish sail boat. We also enjoyed snorkeling in the protected reef right off the beach. The only negative things for me did not have to do with the property, The roads scared me to death and the island itself was a little run down.
