Termas-da-azenha: charming familyhouse Oliveira

Casa Oliveira is an authentic Portuguese house, with nice marble azulejos and a beautiful tijolejo-floor.

In the living/dining part you find two sofas, a coffee table, a satelite-TV with DVD-player, two convection-heaters (for the winter), a dining-table with 4 chairs and a high chair for a small child (there are other chairs in the bedrooms). This house has a wireless internetconnection (you can get the codeword at the reception). The kitchen is fully equiped, with micro-wave, fridge and coffeemaker, all crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and glasses you need. There is a bedroom with doublebed and one with one single bed, bunkbeds and a... cot.

The bathroom has a bath, wash-stand and a toilet, and is beautifully decorated with a mosaic called “The Flamingos”.

Oliveira lies on the hill “o monte do Barril” and on the terrace, on the swingcouch, you have a magnificent view over the valley.

From Casa Oliveira you can go directly to the patio with the two swimmingpools: one for adults (6 x 7 x 1.80), one for children (3 x 4 x 0,50). These pools are filled with the healing waters of the Termas and are filtered in a natural way.

In early days (1700) the baths where already known as Caldas da Nossa Senhora do Pranto. Bathing was done in wooden shacks. In those early days of bathing the spring water was already famous for its healing powers for rheumatism and skin diseases.

From the end of the 19th century onwards the water has been tested at regular intervals. Its temperature (30º Celsius), components and minerals have been the same throughout all those years. The thermal baths, in the balneário (the bath house), are nowadays only partially used. During the first improvisation stage, years ago, we were very glad with the ever streaming mineral- water.

Termas da Azenha also is a small farm. We have an olive orchard consisting of a hundred mature trees and an orange and mandarin orchard. All over our land you will find different species of fruit trees like apple, peach, fig, nesperas and diosperos. The last two are typical Portuguese species. We are working towards growing and only using biologically home-grown fruit and vegetables for our meals.

Termas is situated in Central Portugal, south-east of Figueira da Foz, only 20 kilometers from the Atlantic coast. A nice mix between culture and nature.The little village lies on the edge of a valley of the river Mondego.Read more

  We stayed in the Termas for 2 weeks, using 2 hotelrooms, not the familyhouse. The Termas is in a beautiful and quiet location,has lots of space, a swimming pool and the atlantic ocean with marvellous beaches is only 15 km away.Bykes are available and in good condition. The atmosphere is very easy going. Quests are invited to join for dinner at affordable prices. Good location for families with children. The maximum number of guests is not greater than appr 40 at any time. (not included the people who stay in the small campingsite, which is part of the Termas).

  Last year I stayed for a while on Thermas da azenha.
  I had a very good time especially with Ellen, the hostess. She is very tolerant, supports own initiatives and almost everything you want to do is possible. She has build there a special place in the middle of nature, close by the sea and city's like Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto. Perfect for all kinds of activities, when you are alone, or with friends or family and children. Lots of healthy water is always running through the bathing house. People came there to take a special bath, the water is good for the skin. There is a lot of creativity, mozaĂŻek, and paintings on the walls. The rooms and apartments are comfortable.
  I would recommend everyone who is planning to go to Portugal, to stay at Thermas da azenha.
