Description from the manager
Secluded, fun, high bank oceanfront with close beach access at Lost Creek State Park. Sweeping ocean views featuring fabulous sunsets. One bedroom with a queen bed and a small loft with a twin bed. One bath with a shower only. There is a double futon in livingroom plus a TV, DVD, and woodstove. This house does not have direct beach access from the house but it is about a two block walk on highway 101 (safer beach access) or via a wooded path through a forested area which is not as safe for those not agile. A runner's paradise, from beach access at Lost Creek State Park, guests can venture 6 miles north to the Newport Jetty, 1 mile south t...Read more

Astoria, OR, United StatesOcean Escape Over the New Year Holiday 2012/13
Left on 01/04/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My wife and I (and our two dogs) have stayed at the "Ocean Escape" twice prior to this last momentous occasion. Each and every time the house has served our needs and comfort with a perfect blend of rustic persona and aesthetic charm. The view from the deck is worth its weight in gold and the access to hiking, restaurants and the numerous attractions of the Newport area are unsurpassed. We shared a bottle of "champagne" on the deck New Year's Eve while bundled up in fleece and all was right with the world, if just for a moment. Romantic opportunities abound at this little yellow house overlooking the Pacific. The wood planking on the deck and porch has been upgraded and the carport removed. A wise decision by the owners. If you're reading this and wondering if it's a potential place to plop yourself down for a few days, you'll be very pleased. The kitchen is well appointed and there are even champaqne flutes for those intimate toasts. Children will love climbing up to the "loft". Dollar for dollar, this is a real bargain. The trail to the Lost Creek State Park beach is quite easy to navigate but the end point can be difficult. Look to the right when the "drop-off" appears and navigate through a slightly used break in the scrub.

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Like that the house cannot be seen from the road gives you a sense of privacy. The little forest was very nice for the dogs to be able to run loose a little bit. House itself was homey and comfortable. Had everything that we needed for our stay. The view from the deck was wonderful, watched whales almost every day we were there during our week. Beach is nice without a lot of people on it, there were times we had it all to ourselves. Would for sure go back. Enjoyed our trip very much.

United StatesGreat Location, Old concept of affordable beach house constructi
Left on 09/18/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This was a great location for us since we flew into Newport Airport for our 3 day stay. We enjoyed the local cuisine and crafts on the area from here. This place was very clean. The phone signal here was weak. Very comfortable bed and well appointed w/TV, movies, games, and a great view. I understand the management is in the process of replacing the carport soon and some of the decking that is old and in need of replacement. What a great view and beach to explore right here on the water front.
We had an issue with a horrible smell in the kitchen area. Like a dead mouse kind of smell. We contacted the management and they sent someone out that morning to investigate. Couldn't locate anything but sealed a hole, sprayed some fabreeze and it did help.
I would consider another stay here. The price is right and a great location.Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC - 09/19/2012

We have the smell taken care of, so all is well now. Come back again!

McLean, VA, United StatesGreat beach cabin: wonderful location and views
Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This is a simple but terrific beach cabin, in one of the best locations we saw on the Oregon coast. Very quiet and isolated (only one neighbor), not in any beach town, on a modest cliff providing wonderful views of the ocean, but with good beach access. The cabin has a glass front to the ocean, a fully operational kitchen, good Internet, and important to us, comfortable seating and good lighting for reading in the living room in the evening. Best for a couple (one bedroom), although there is a single in a small loft. Recommended.

McLean, VAGreat beach cabin
Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We had a wonderful time in this great beach cabin. It isn't luxurious, but has a lot of charm and fit our needs (and expectations) precisely. The location is just perfect. A neighbor on only one side, terrific views from a cliff over the beach, wonderful full glass front. It was quiet and somewhat isolated, not in a beach town which we were trying to avoid. This would be best for a couple, one nice bedroom although there is a small loft where a third (or solo) could sleep. Comfortable seating and lighting in the main room, and good Internet connection. The kitchen worked well for us, seemed to have everything you could need. the deck needs work (but I see a management comment that it is being replaced), but we never felt a concern about it. The most important upgrade would be stairs to the beach .. forget any comments about a 'trail' .. we used the stairs of the next door lot, but eventually there will be a house there and that won't work. All in all, we could not have enjoyed this great find, and recommend it.

Boise, Idaho, United StatesOur first night started a little rocky!
Left on 08/10/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our first night out on the deck enjoying the stars ended with me falling thru a badly decayed wood board. Thank God I only got a few scrapes and a bruses. Management did send someone to replace the broken board and another that was also badly needing to be replaced. When going back and looking at others reviews and seeing a few people make mention of the deck being unsafe really concerns me. I don't understand why the whole thing was not replaced sooner. Very unsafe! Although we were insured by management that the owners were replacing the whole deck in a few weeks. We wish it were done before we arrived so I was not so worried about my family and myself falling thru again. Other then the deck and the car port needing to replaced. We did have a good time. The view was wonderful! Plan on coming back to the coast next year but just not to the little yellow house.

We have been trying to get the deck replaced and the carport removed for some time. I can promise you the deck is being replaced (totally replaced) in September and the carport is being totally removed at the same time. We so appreiate everyone's patience and understanding. We have tried so hard to keep this all safe while we had guests coming and going all summer, every time we thought we had it licked another board gave out. Perhaps we shoud have cancelled out the summer stays, but we definitley will have it all perfect soon. Thanks again for your understanding.

We had a wonderful time. The interior of the house was immaculate, the views incredible, and the location convenient. The only problem we could see was the condition of the deck, there were a couple of rotted out boards. Other than that an 8.5 out of 10!

Had a wonderful time and enjoyed our 24th Anniversary in this house. Really good price. We have already booked in August. The only problems we had was the very uncomfortable Queen bed. We slept on the futon after the first nite. Really needs some maintenance done around the place.
Response from Bayshore Rentals LLC - 06/05/2012

Thanks, but the queen bed is brand new from last summer. Not sure, maybe it was too firm for your taste. We know the maintenance issues and are working with the owner to re-do the deck and attend to other issues.

We just love ocean escape. A great spot for families as well. The trail through the woods is a nice treat for young ones. All the details are covered with the windproof porch, binoculars to borrow, great movie selection, woodstove and more. The only reason I didnt do all 5 stars for everything is because I like to be pampered with a dishwasher on vacation. Otherwise....all 5 stars!

58549Clean, Cozy Cabin with Incredible Ocean Views
Left on 04/09/2012 for a stay in April 2012
This cabin was exactly as advertised. I always appreciate that when I travel! The service was amazing. The ladies who manage this property are efficient, kind, and quick to answer inquiries. I would rent from them again any time.
I loved that the cabin had a very private drive. You can't see the cabin from the road. It's quite close to Hwy 101, but that wasn't really an issue for me. The inside was exactly like the pictures online. It is not a luxury accommodation. But, luxury isn't my speed. It's simple, beachy, cozy, and most importantly, it was ultra clean. This is the most important thing to me when staying somewhere. I can be flexible on most things, but not cleanliness. It seemed that maybe the cabin had recently been painted inside and the flooring was newer. I loved using the real wood stove, which for me, always seems to make things even cozier. The kitchen is well stocked with all the things you need for cooking. The loft area is cute, and has great views. I sat up there a couple of times. It would be a place my 9 year old step-son would love to call his own. The views of the beach from the deck were just amazing, and I was able to take beautiful sunset pictures every night. I spent a lot of time on that deck: I had my coffee there each morning, read a book in the afternoons, and had a glass of wine and dinner there each evening. I could stare at the incredible view all day.
The main reason I picked this place was because the owners allow dogs. I expected a possible dog smell. Sometimes you just can't avoid it in pet-friendly accommodations. However, there was no pet smell. None. My dog loved it here. I brought her bed with us, so she was at home right away. She spent time on the deck, sniffed around the woods near the cabin, and of course we walked for hours on the beach. She chased her ball on the sand, barked at the seagulls she could never even get close to, and ran into the waves for a piece of driftwood. This place was pure heaven for a black lab. Heaven! If you have dogs, this place is great!
The trail through the woods is great...to a point. At the final entry point, it was a bit steep and I slipped. Actually the dog was so anxious to be on the beach, she pulled when she needed to wait. Then I slipped. On the way back, I couldn't climb up the way we came down. There was wet clay on the path and it was far too slippery to get a good foothold. So, for all other visits to the beach we got in the car and drove down the street to the state park (Lost Creek, I think it was). It's literally 15 seconds from the house. Much easier entry there. You could walk the highway, but with a 55 mile per hour speed there, I didn't feel comfortable doing that.
I wouldn't feel comfortable with young children here, as the property sits atop a very high cliff. The twin bed in the loft has stairs that are too steep for young children. An older child would be fine here.
If you are visiting Newport for the first time and are looking for suggestions, Nana's Irish Pub had a great corned beef sandwich and the best fish and chips. Mo's had great clam chowder. The aquarium was great and be sure to see the state parks up and down the coast. My best pictures were taken at Seal Rock.
I highly recommend this cabin, and I plan to stay here again. Hopefully soon. -

Vancouver, WA, United StatesAnnual getaway to the coast
Left on 03/23/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Top notch views of ocean from windows and covered deck made it nice during a period of very inclement weather during our 4 night visit.
Good privacy, and has a trail right off the place which allows for private walks.
Would have given a 5 star rating but there were some maintenance issues. The door lock froze up requiring maintenance to come out to replace, (which they did so promptly and were very courteous). However there are also a number of boards in the front and side decking which have rotted through, and presents a bit of a safety hazard if one is not careful. They need attention/replaced.
That all being said, is very good value when compared to staying at some of the motel lodging in the same area.
Would definitely consider another visit. -

My nephew, my son and I met at Ocean Escapes. We really enjoyed the house and the view. Especially loved the sun porch as the Oregon Coast was experiencing quite the storm--80mph winds, 4 to 6 inches of snow, rain, trees down, power outages, thunder, the whole works. That sun porch got alot of use! We did use the path to the beach when we arrived and found it to be ok. Didn't get out after that because of the weather. I, for one, will be back!

Highlights--watching whales spout every eve as th sun set over the Pacific. Great spot! If it were mine, though, I'd get rid of the partially glassed in deck and have the beach house doors just open out directly to the deck, so you'd feel more connected to the sea while inside. And upstairs in that cool little loft, I'd have the windows open--but hey, some of us can't get enough of the sound of the ocean! The place was lovely, however, and a great escape indeed.

It was hard to find the driveway for the first time. The cone that marks the driveway should be mentioned in the directions. The house number should be placed on three sides of the address post.
The house was very private and secluded and that was really nice. The house was also incredibly clean.
The wood burning stove was nice but the fumes were somehow escaping onto the covered patio which concerned us.
There were plenty of clean blankets and pillows.
The view from the deck was spectacular! -

One of the few nice places that allows dogs, for sure. However, a few improvements to the amenities would go a long way. Most of the blankets, rugs, futon cover, etc are getting pretty old and well used and seem like an afterthought. We had a one year old who was on everything and updated furnishings would have made us more at ease. It's a nice place and a great location, so a few low cost improvements would go a long way to making future guests that much more happy!
