Description from the owner
This spectacular, prize-winning executive home is on Lake Tahoe's South Shore. To reach the front door, one must enter into a great stone cavern formed by massive granite boulders under a sod roof. "Stonehenge" is a beautiful vacation home built on a rocky ridge overlooking the woods and meadows of Tahoe Valley and the crest of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada. It is located at the edge of the El Dorado National Forest and no house or rooftop, nor street or wire, mar its magnificent view.
The end of the 50 by 35 foot living room is formed by a single stone. In the center of this great room lies another boulder and a mossy trout pond, bring...Read more

This house is unbelievable.
You will feel at home as soon as you pull in the driveway. The views are spectacular. The enormous boulders that are around and within the home are amazing. You will never see a home like this one.
Fantastic gas grill available to use. And a great hot tub was the perfect end to a day on the slopes.
This house has plenty of full bathrooms. You will never have to wait your turn.
We can wait until the our next opportunity to visit Tahoe because we know where we will be staying!Response from Rosemarie Twining - 01/16/2013

San FranciscoA truly special home.
Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in November 2012
My family was lucky enough to spend 10 relaxing days at "Stonehenge" this past November. It took all of a few seconds to feel completely at home.
Each coner of the home carries little treasures: great books, interesting architecture, personal details, and incredible views.
Although we spent most of our time exploring the grounds and surrounding forests, getting to and from town was a breeze.
The fact that the owners family built the home themselves is almost unbelievable, but makes all the difference. It is warm, charming, spacious, and respectful to the natural beauty that surrounds it. I can only imagine the twining family to be quite similar. We give this home our highest recommendation.
Many thanks for a lovely time and beautiful memories. We hope to return.
Warmly,
The Diamond family

The pictures and descriptions of this home do not do it justice!
From the moment you enter the Boulder faced entrance your eyes and imagination will fill you with envy as you take in the home.
Windows in all directions let the mountains and landscaping complete the picture.
From dawn to dusk we saw marmots, rabbits, squirrels, chipmonks and birds galore.
The floor plan allows for groups and privacy. The bedrooms and baths are good sized and comfy. Radiant floor heat, ample linens and supplies in each.
This is a one of a kind house and we feel honored to have stayed here.

This was the most amazing place to stay. The pictures don't do it justice. There are boulders inside the house, a pond, yet it was warm and cozy. We skied at Heavenly (~10 minutes) and Kirkwood (~40 minutes) while we stayed here.

Stonehenge was the perfect setting for a family gathering. The home is truly unique and the view is breathtaking. The home has a little bit of something for everyone of varying ages from 5 to 70. The grass roof, the game room fully stocked with games, the fully equipped kitchen, the hot tub and the awesome outdoor seating made it a great spot. There's a nice walking trail to Sawmill Pond and shopping and the lake are a short drive.
We will definitely return and will hopefully have a chance to stay in the winter. -

We enjoyed our stay in this amazing house very much! We stayed here with members of our wedding party and everyone thought the house was very unique and comfortable. It had plenty of space for us and our eight guests. The kitchen is beautifully equipped. I made all of the food for our wedding morning brunch in the kitchen, including cinnamon rolls, and there was plenty of space and many pots and pans. We would recommend this house to others and already trying to arrange another trip to South Lake Tahoe during which we hope to stay here again

Stonehenge has it all!! This is a very spectacular and unique home built around huge boulders in a stunning mountain setting. We stayed several nights and woke each morning feeling as if we were the only people visiting Lake Tahoe. The setting is very private with fantastic mountain views from every window. The seating areas on many levels allow you to relax and take it all in. Every room is unique, comfortable, and cozy. We were provided with all the amenities necessary to enjoy a most relaxing stay. The owners are most responsive, helpful, and truly give you personal service. We will return again to Stonehenge as it is without question one of the most unique homes anywhere!
