South Padre Island Travel Resources

South Padre Island is the perfect getaway for beach lovers everywhere. This sunny island is located on the tropical tip of Texas and is bordered by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Laguna Madre Bay. The warm waters of the gulf invite you in to celebrate life in a plethora of exciting ways. You can enjoy the beach in the typical fashion of sunbathing, swimming and building sandcastles or you can amp up your days by going parasailing, kite boarding, scuba diving and wave running. Take it to the highest level by skydiving over South Padre Island; there is no better way to take in the beautiful bounty of the ocean.
Another way to take in the bounty of the ocean is to reel it in. Find a spot on a boat, on the beach or on a pier and drop a line. Many local restaurants will even cook your catch. If you would like to see even bigger fish, there are dolphin tours aplenty with guaranteed sightings. Dolphins and fish are not the only wildlife to see on the island. Take a wildlife boat tour and see if you can spot the over 300 different species of birds that abound on the island. Not too far from the island you will also find the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, which offers 1,500 feet of public boardwalk access to the wetlands and viewings of the creatures therein.
For a romantic getaway, take a horseback ride along the beach and then dine at one of South Padre Island’s myriad delicious dining establishments. Finish your evening with friends and fun at a bustling pub or club.
