Update: This unit can sleep up to 10 people for spring break 2014.
Spacious beachside vacation rental (2BR/2BA, 1500 sq. feet) owned and operated by internationally-known master sand sculptor Lucinda "sandy feet" Wierenga. Eclectic "beach shack chic" accommodations feature a pool table, an upright piano, wooden floors, handcrafted driftwood furniture, and a cook's dream kitchen. Two big decks and large, airy common area make this a great place for gatherings. The back deck overlooks a lush tropical garden and sand sculpture gallery and practice area. Amenities include wifi, sandcastle lessons and full access to all the owner's beach toy...s and sandcastling equipment.
The back deck offers guests morning sunshine, butterfly and hummingbird-friendly blooming trees, and a birdseye view of the sandpit. Sandy feet uses the large backyard as a studio/gallery and sometimes venue for intimate house concerts. Musicians gather weekly to strum together and an experimental vegetable garden is just starting to sprout.
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood in "The Planets" district - just half a block from the Gulf of Mexico - the SandBox is within easy walking distance of restaurants, nightspots, coffee/ice cream shop, convenience store and a cinema.
Update: Downstairs is a newly-renovated studio apartment that may be available at certain times of year for 1-2 additional guests. This unit features a private entrance/patio; bath; kitchenette (full-sized fridge and micro but no stove/oven); cable TV/WiFi and two single beds (in a trundle setup.) Pictures available upon request.

We couldn't have been more happy & satisfied with The Sandbox Inn. Spacious, comfortable, homey, artistic, & a great location. The huge, open kitchen was so great for our family. We also loved the pool table & the large dining & living room areas. Every detail was thought of; it felt like staying in my own home if it was at the beach & an awesome house!
(Added bonus~ she lets our furry four legged family members stay there as well).
Our host Sandy was very available & helpful with info about what to do on SPI. She even gave us a sandcastle building lesson which was the highlight of our trip.
We will can't wait to come back!

A few friends and I stayed here for spring break. The experience was absolutely amazing. It is a 2 minute walk from the bus stop that gives you access to the rest of the island. At the end of the street is a quiet beach if you're looking to relax, or you can take the bus to the Coca-Cola beach if you're looking for a wild time. There is a gas station and other stores within a two minute walk where you can get virtually everything you need for your stay. Lucinda was great in helping us plan the trip and answered any questions we had. Overall, we had an absolutely great time and would definitely recommend booking with her if you and your 4-5 friends are looking for a good house.

We stayed at the Sandbox from mid Nov. to mid Dec. 2012. It's a delightfully funky place with a homey feel, the open arrangement very suitable to our needs. A big bonus was that our two dogs were welcome, which on South Padre is a rare thing indeed.
My family met on SPI for Thanksgiving week. We needed a big place to accommodate our family but none of the large beach houses accepted pets. We stayed at Sandy's while the rest of our party was at a larger beach house with pool. In our experience with the more expensive "professional" beach rental, the Sandbox was the far better place and greater value of the two.
Many things at the large beach house (which photographed beautifully) were broken, rusty, stained, shabby. We spent a full day stocking, cleaning and fixing to get it to an acceptable standard. I did not need to pre-clean, nor did we need to buy supplies for the Sandbox.
After my family left the Island we stayed on for a few weeks bartering services for time at the Sandbox. I did a deep "spring" cleaning to my exacting standards while my husband did some repairs and built storm shutters. The place glowed when we left. I have since read a review that stated that the place was "filthy" immediately after that deep clean which could not possibly be true or factual.
Lucinda regularly inquired after our comfort, a far better experience than having to call a rental office for towels, when the garbage disposal broke, the clothes washer died, the dishwasher refused to turn on (my brother fixed that) and the refrigerator started leaking brown ooze from the bottom at the other house. We had no such issues at the Sandbox.
The Sandbox is not the Ritz but it is everything it's advertised to be and more; a comfortable, homey, easy going beach house that is well equipped, not over-laden with rules, not oversold as luxury accommodations.
We will definitely come back to the Sandbox the next time we visit South Padre.

It was our first family vacation with my fiance, his daughter and my 3 boys and their dog. It was wonderful. Everyone had such a wonderful time and loved the place. Sandy Feet is the greatest! Our sandcastle lesson was so much fun and we learned some really cool stuff. The back deck was my favorite spot of all. Flowering shrubs that went above our deck that brought butterflies and hummingbirds. Wednesday night I just sat back and enjoed a cocktail listening to her and her friends musical talent. To get to the beach was Sooo easy, she had chairs and misc stuff that we didnt have to pack or buy it was great. I would not recommend with really small kids as the stairs rungs are far apart that a little one could easily go through, but we had no issues at all. Highly recommend!!!

The Sandbox Inn is a wonderful rental just a quick walk away from the beach and a couple of restaurants. It is very roomy and comfortable. It feels like staying at a friend's house rather than a vacation rental. The full kitchen also helped make it feel more like home because we didn't need to go out for every meal.

My two children and brother stayed at The SandBox Inn and had a wonderful time. This was a first time for us and it was wonderful. I have an aunt that lives in New Port Beach , Ca and it reminded me so much of her home, the lay out, the color and so close to the beach. I felt like I was at home. What a pleasure it was to stay here, I would think if your a beach lover this the place to be. Close to great places to eat, close to the beach and great for R & R. I would get this place a 10 plus, get for all ages. If , you get an urge to go to the beach The Sand Castle is the place to go.

The house was spacious and comfortable, and the kids loved the loft. The decor is fantastic, and the house had everything we needed. Lucinda is a great hostess - we really enjoyed the sand castle building lesson!
(The only improvement would be to bring the beach to the front door!)

Went with a large group of friends of Memorial day weekend. This place is eclectic and the most unique place to stay on the island. Condo is stocked with everything you need and there is a ton of indoor and outdoor space. Prices are great. Lucinda is amazing and check in was quick and painless. We are already planning on staying here next year.

We had an amazing time at Sandy Feet's Sandbox Inn. The rental was spacious, close to the beach, nice and clean and just plain beautiful. The two patios were great for whining and dining. Overall it was an amazing experience and we are scheduled to be there again in August. We loved it!

This beach house in South Padre is a fantastic place to stay. Lucinda is an
amazing hostess for this rental property. The place is a very fun place to stay.
Our group stayed entertained from a variety of things including the TV with
cable hook-up in the living room, the iPod dock to play your music in the
house, the great pool table with a cover to play games on top of it as well, the
amazing/unique kitchen, and the fact that it's very close to the beach was
great! If someone is looking for a unique place to stay with a quiet and nice
neighborhood, then this is the best option! If I were to go back to South Padre
Island I would choose that my group stay here again over anywhere else on
the Island. The only thing it lacked was a swimming pool, but with everything
else there is to do and with the beach being close by, it isn't a problem at all.
Overall, this was the best experience I've ever had and absolutely loved how
you feel completely at home here! :-)
Thanks so much Lucinda!!

I really enjoyed the privacy is condo afford. Close to the beach yet on an interior street. Two large great decks, where I spent a great deal of my time. The condo has a beautiful kitchen and thanks to the pool table in the condo, improved my game. Would stay again.

I have just returned from a 6 week vacation on Padre Island and a very pleasant
stay at the Sand Box. It is spacious, clean and doggy friendly. The kitchen is so
well equipped and roomy. I especially enjoyed both the front and back decks
as did my Scotty,Duffy. The fenced in yard made it a great place for my
dog.The location is great since it is only a half of a block from the Gulf and is
so close to one of the favorite eating places on the island. I plan to return next
winter and recommend The Sand Box to anyone looking for a friendly place to
stay. Since it is owned by sand sculpturer Sand Feet it makes it possible to get
a private lesson in creating your own master piece.
