Everything seemed to have been right. The place was clean and comfortable, with plenty of room for the four of us (three adults and one toddler). Very nice patio/balcony with large BBQ grill. Fridge and dishwasher are a bit noisy, so if you are trying to sleep in the living room, make sure the dishwasher is not on and find a way to ignore the humming of the fridge. (Was not an issue for us at all, though.) They also have beach toys available, which is nice if you didn't bring your own or don't want to buy any.

Lawrence, KansasA perfect place for our family vacation
Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011
The Bahama Beach Lodge had everything we needed to make our vacation complete. All we added were groceries and our own clothes and personal items. It was clean, we found board games in the closet for nights we stayed in, used the grill on the patio for a couple of dinners, found a cooler in the closet for our picnic lunch, we walked the half-block to the bay side to watch the sunset each evening, and we were able to easily walk to shopping and the beach on the gulf side. Having two larger beds in one room was perfect for our three daughters to share. Our daughters are teenagers so if we had opted for a hotel we would have needed to have two hotel rooms and eaten all meals out. This was a money-saver for us since we were able to prepare most of our meals and eat in. All in all this was a great place for us to stay for the week.

South Padre Island is a wonderful vacation spot and deck overlooks the backyard which is a tropical paradise. We were very sad to leave and thank Chuck and Diane for helping to make our vacation so awesome!
The house was the perfect size for our family of 6 and so comfortable. Chuck and Diane were very accomodating and so responsive to our calls ranging from our clogging the sink to needing a stroller for the 1 year old and propane for the grill.
We used the grill and deck everynight which was great! If you don't have kids then walking to the beach is easy (and great exercise to work off the margaritas). I recommend driving to the beach if you have small children and lots of stuff to take.
Thanks again Chuck and Diane!!

The condo was in a good location, an easy walk to beach access. It was roomy, bright, and had just about everything you would need to cook a meal for a family. The patio was nice, however the grill ignitor was broken and the lighter in the house didn't work. Not a big deal but we bought groceries and had planned on using it. My husband just lit it by hand after getting a lighter. There are two separate baths and two bedrooms which sleep up to six people but only one of the beds was comfortable. My back ached the entire week from sleeping in the master and so did my daughter's who slept in one of the other beds. I would say an upgrade in beds and bedding would have made the stay much better! Not a huge deal though. There is no longer the bed in the dining area as shown in the picture, there is now a dining room table which was great but left my son to sleep on the sleeper sofa which needs a new mattress. It too was very uncomfortable so he slept on the couch all week. There are towels but I would suggest take some of your own just to be safe. With three kids we did and it helped out since there is no laundry area in the condo. There is a laundry mat on the island, we did two loads while we were there just because of the kids. I would say this would be a great place to stay with some better bedding and beds. Other than that, it's a good value for the stay. I was a little disappointed that the owners did not introduce themselves to us until almost the last day we were there. The day we arrived we heard them outside and when I went to ask a question about the beach access I was treated rudely by the lady (owner I guess?). We ended up asking the neighbors any other questions we had. My husband did meet Chuck and said he seemed nice. He was very polite in emailing and arranging our stay. If you want to just pay via email and don't wish to interact with owners this is the perfect place. Overall it's a good space to stay with a family!

Owner
So glad you enjoyed your stay overall. We try to emphasize to our potential renters that, despite our house being on the bay side of the island, we are just a short walk from the beach.
Sorry about the lack of fire for the grill. I always make sure the grill lighter is available and working as part of checking guests in, but overlooked it since you checked yourselves in so late.
I'd also like to apologize that you were treated rudely by the downstairs guests. We make sure our guests have our cell phone number and always answer, night or day in case you have a problem or question. We do not live on site, so we did not introduce ourselves until after we arrived to clean when the downstairs guests had departed. We make a point of introducing ourselves to all of our guests and only failed to do so in this instance due to late arrival.
We have several upgrades planned for next season, including changing the older mattresses and remodeling the garage to make laundry facilities available to our guests. We'll also put photos of all of our upgrades online as soon as possible.
Were glad you enjoyed your stay in general and found us polite and easy to work with and thanks for pointing out what a great value we provide for the cost. -

I have to agree with all of the previous reviews. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Bahama Beach Lodge. The home was beautiful, very clean and furnished with much more than I expected. We stopped at the store and picked up some items before we arrived at the home, only to realize that many of the items were already there! The balcony was very nice and relaxing. The street is very quiet, yet close enou. I highly recommend the Bahama Beach Lodge to anyone gh to walk to the beach, restaurants, and bars. Charles is kind and easy to communicate withlooking for a+ lodging without the pricey rates!

Not only are the accommodations great due to generous room sizes, a kitchen with everything you need, a wonderful south facing covered deck and the extra huge windows to really light the main areas but the location is the best. The tropical plantings in the back yard are super. Situated on the quiet west side of the island, close to my two favorite island restaurants and the gulf beach access is one of two on the island with both showers and bathrooms. It is also just a few very walkable blocks to most of the entertainment available on the island. The artwork in the unit is much better than is normally found in a rental unit. Plenty of linens were supplied. Lots of beach toys and chairs were available for our use. Our pups and the parrot loved the atmosphere and especially the deck. Of course Chuck (the onsite handyman to address you're every need - what could be better) and Diane couldn't be nicer so all in all Bahama Beach Lodge is the best place to stay - our 5th place in 4 years will remain our 1st place choice. We will recommend highly it to our friends who want to visit the island (when we're not there)! We've already booked for next year and beyond!

The pictures made this place look great, but when we arrived it was even better than expected. Big, bright and airy with a large private balcony/patio. The fully stocked kitchen made making a lazy breakfast super easy. The location is great...padre is small but the Bahama Lodge is in walking to distance to everything. We loved the affordability and that we could bring our dog. We would definitely stay here again!

Myself and six other family members (my parents, husband, son, my sister, and her daughter) spent a week in this amazing house. I found it on line and booked it after seeing the pictures online. The pictures are all real and exactly what you get. All the way down to the gas grill on the back porch.
The house is very clean, nice, and a great place to relax and enjoy a wonderful vacation any time of year. The beach is just a few minutes away from the house, a nice walk. South Padre is a great place for a family vacation or a romantic weekend alone. We loved Port Isabella, ( a short five minutes drive) and all the shopping it offers.
The owners of the home were extremely helpful and hospitable. They checked on us when we saw them in passing. It is well worth the cost. My husband and I have traveled to Mexico many times, and this was just as fun. If you are considering this home, don't look any further, just book now!Response from Charles Hofmeister - 11/15/2010

A group of 7 of us traveled down to South Padre for the labor weekend hoping to get great weather, in return, it rained all the 3 days when we were down there. It would have been a negative experience if we had been stuck in some hotel, however, we still ended up having a great time, all thanks to Chuck's wonderful beach lodge. The house is beautiful, spacious, and very comforting. We did a lot of cooking (there's a grill) & playing indoor games. Just before we left, we had a chance to met Chuck and his family, very nice people. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends.

Left on 07/21/2010 for a stay in July 2010
My friends and I (all college students) stayed here for a weekend as a group of 10 and it was absolutely amazing. The house was exactly as it looked in the pictures, but the pictures didn't show that almost everything was perfect and so much was provided for the guests already! Cookingware, spices, bedding, beach supplies, basic toiletries, utensils, even tons of extra covers and pillows... you name it, they had it. The only thing we really needed to bring ourselves? Clothing and sunscreen.
The place was very clean and everything looked well taken care of if not brand new. The owners respect your privacy and we respected theirs; Chuck was very nice and attentive to anything we might've needed (although we found the house had everything already)! We loved that the beach and a couple of shopping places were within walking distance! What a find, considering the very modest rental fee. We're definitely planning on staying here again if we make another trip to South Padre! -

We were there for our wedding/vacation, and they made us feel so comfortable, and welcome. We had the best time, and will most definutly be back!!
