  My husband and I visited Southern Shores for the second time, this time staying at HappyTauk. Upon arrival we stopped in to pick up a parking pass from Southern Shores realty to hang out at the beach until the house was ready. Unfortunately we parked in the wrong parking lot and received a ticket. So be careful you park in the correct parking lot which has the entrance hidden behind some trees, across from the city parking lot in plain view. It was really awesome that we could take Juniper Trail off of route 158 which let us avoid the terrible route 12 traffic. You do have to get on route 12 to get to the southern shores office but it’s pretty close to the highway so it’s not too bad. Also, the house was ready earlier than the 4pm check in and the office called to let us know which was great customer service.
  
  When we got to the house it was nice to have a ramp to the first floor so carrying the luggage in was easy as all four bedrooms were on the first floor. The rooms are smaller than what we are used to but adequate, however there isn’t really a master suite. The only deck access is through one of two bedrooms. This was fine for the two of us but if you are using the two bedrooms it would be annoying to have people constantly trekking through your room. There was also a nice porch swing on this level. There are two bathrooms on this level, one is accessible only through two of the bedrooms. This had a jacuzzi tub but it looked pretty dingy so we didn't bother trying it. The top floor was a nice wide open floor plan and a half bath as well. There was a wet bar which we thought was rather odd since it’s about 10 feet away from the kitchen. You generally find wet bars in basements or outdoors, not next to a kitchen. I think the space could have been better utilized if they managed to put a stackable washer and dryer there instead. My husband was disappointed in the lack of a washing machine as he usually likes to pack light and do laundry so he ended up hand washing a few things in the sink. There is a line to dry things on underneath the house. I could care less, I just need my internet so that was great. I would not stay at a house that did not have wireless internet. We were really excited about the pool and the hot tub,both of which were great!
  
  I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you have a fear of spiders, they could definitely use an exterminator. The first night I jumped out of bed screaming as a spider was crawling on my pillow. It was small and black but not what you want to see right before you go to bed. There were a few other spiders in the bathroom, the bedroom, and the outside washroom. The scariest one however was on the raft that we left next to the pool. I put the raft in the water and went to hop on and the biggest spider I’ve ever seen was just sitting there. The body size was about 3 inches! I’m not too familiar with different spider species but that sucker could do some damage. We were pretty prompt with doing dishes but if you happened to leave something sitting out for more than an hour or so in the kitchen you would definitely see some ants.
  
  On the top floor was another deck with a screened in porch. We really liked the screened in porch to relax in the evenings.
  
  We really had a great time at HappyTauk and it was a great house for the two of us.
