Worked well for a large group but some we had a few issues. Only had 1 grill down by the pool, dryer was damaged, pet hair (and smell) were all over the house. I think we left it cleaner than it was when we arrived. House looks like it has taken some abuse but it could of been worse.

Needed larger fridge upstairs due to amount of people using the home. There was 17 people in our group and even though there's a fridge at the tiki bar a larger one would have helped upstairs. Also, needs a trash can at the tiki bar. All in all it worked for us and we will had a wonderful vacation. thanks!!!

Check in and dealing with Resort Realty personnel was a breeze. However, the house had numerous issues which were disappointing. I don't think there was one bedroom which had all working light bulbs. All of the outside lights (toward the cul de sac) were burnt out. Taking our dogs out at night was an adventure! There was also only one working light by the pool. Using the pool and pool area after dark was dangerous. Also the dishwasher had water lying in the bottom when we arrived. We attempted to use the dishwasher but the dishes did not come clean and the water remained in the bottom, did not drain out. We did not use the dishwasher for the remainder of the week. Also the pool had an algae problem despite numerous trips by the pool guy. The hot tub blower also did not work.

This was our first year staying in Southern Shores. Typically we like to stay down in Hatteras. Unfortunatly the Hurricane displaced many people of that town and the roads did not allow access to the Island. We were happy to find this house last minute since we could not stay at our other rental. We were happy with the backyard pool area with the bar and outdoor kitchen as we spend most of our time outside near the pool. This was the only part of the house that made our trip half way decent. We tried to make the best of it and not complain as we were just happy to be at the OBX and enjoying our yearly vacation here. The pool area was crawling with giant coclroaches and rats. Rats were scaling the fence and jumping in and out of trees. Rats were also walking around the bar area. This was disgusting as we had 2 small chilren and my pregnant wife in this house. The home was spacious and had more than enough rooms. However this home is in some serious need of some inexpensive upgrades. There was not a pot or pan in the house that was usuable to cook any food on. Skillets were scoured so babdly it could not be used to cook. Pots had burned food on them. We had to go purchase our own cookware set upon arrival at the home. This is not acceptable. You are making this home available to people who plan to spend a week here and spend their hard earned money for borderline deplorable conditions. The couches were something you would find in someones basement or frat house. For the 2 rooms on the top floor it was hard to sleep at night. We heard a constant drip from the attic all night every night. That, along with the loud noise of the cars from the road made it difficult to get sleep. This was a nightmare, not a vacation. We tried to make the best of it and ultimately found a way to have fun which mostly came from venturing outside the home. In the future we will not stay in Southern Shores/Duck. We will not use Resort Realty if these are the type of homes you will manage.

Thank you for taking the time to review Castle in the Sand. It is unfortunate that you had these issues during your stay. With regard to the bugs, they were water bugs that appeared after the hurricane and our staff did not find or see any sign of rats on or near the property. The owner does a good job of maintaining this property and if you needed additional cookware we would have brought it to you, as we do keep cookware in our inventory for replacement when necessary.
Again, thank you for your response and we hope you will give Resort Realty another opportunity.

Everything about Castle in the Sand was as stated in the ad. However, a working TV and some sofas in th gameroom would complete the experience. Location next to main road was quite noisy at times.
