  All clean, great ventilation so we didn't need AC even on the 90-degree day, Ocean Blvd. location meant no traffic sounds, loved the bike trails in Southern Shores, house was very comfortable for the two of us, would have preferred dining room chairs instead of benches and stools, had the impression that owner was hovering--mysterious movement of garbage cans.

  Anderson's Tranquilty lives up to its name for a relaxing vacati

  The location of this property was definitely one of the best features for us. Talk about convenience - out the door on the beach in less than a minute. The beach felt private as we never felt crowded in by others. The house was spacious enough for the four adults and two children. The rooms with their own entrances provided enough privacy for one of the couples and the perfect spot for the teenagers. The sun room served as a great staging area for all the beach stuff and all the guys' fishing equipment. Although the teens would have liked a pool, that amenity wasn't missed since the ocean was right in "the backyard!" We loved the openess of the kitchen/dining area. That allowed the "cook" to socialize with everyone while preparing meals. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots/pans, and utensils. We lacked for nothing when preparing our meals. We appreciated the clothesline outside. While the place has a washing machine, we would have preferred a dryer over a washing machine. With the humidity and rainy days we experienced, getting all the swimsuits and beach towels dry every day was a challenge. The only thing that would make this place more perfect would be a view of the ocean from the living room window. The sand dune prevents that but the deck overlooking the ocean provides a wonderful view.
  There are two things we liked least about the property. First, we recommend some yardwork be done. The weeds coming through the wooden slacks of the front and side decks are unsightly. Second, the AC unit seems too small for the size of the house. We had difficulty regulating the temperature of the main house and the two private entrance rooms. The AC program seemed to have a mind of its own; it often wouldn't hold a set temperature despite us following the directions (which by the way were clear and concise).
  All in all, we really enjoyed Anderson's tranquilty and hope to return year after year!

  This house was not liveable for us. For summer rental when most of the time is spent outside and there was a group of people who wished to separate themselves from each other, it might work. The outside entrance only bedrooms are the issue. We were in the "master bedroom" in the main part of the house. It and the bath were very small and the bedroom had a double bed. You could touch the walls from the bed. This small bath would have to be shared with one of the other bedrooms. Only one of the outside entrance bedrooms had a bath but both of these rooms were much large. No choice of bedroom met our needs. The fireplace is very shallow and smokes easily. Heat is uneven. Kitchen and great room are the best parts of the house but if all the bedrooms were full it would be crowded. The house definitely needs updates, especially given other oceanfront houses near it. We've stayed in Southern Shores since the 1970s and this is the least comfortable of all the houses we have rented. We did not rerent it.

  A Week of Tranquility

  My mother, my son and I stayed one wonderful week at Anderson's Tranquility and wished we could have stayed all summer. We have been coming to the outer banks since I was a child - mostly in the fall when fishing is the best. The cottage is perfect for our tastes - a traditional beach cottage with everything you need for a great, quite, relaxing stay. Anderson's Tranquility is the best value for your money for an ocean front cottage in Southern Shores. We have stayed in several other houses over the years some new and other older and the traditional beach house is what we like the best. Thanks for a great place!
