The house was well set up, plenty of bedrooms for our needs. Being on the water was wonderful, great views from the decks and living room. Separate HVAC units for the two floors really helped. We kept the upstairs windows open and were able to cool the downstairs bedrooms for sleeping at night. The kitchen was very well equipped, plenty of cooking utensils, coffee maker, etc. The furnishings were great for a beach house, comfortable lounging chairs and couches. The beds were comfortable.
Some areas for improving this house....
-Most windows lacked screens, some of them were stored in the garage storage closet.Why, I'm not sure because there were plenty of flies and other flying critters that enjoyed their stay with us. -
-The windows also lacked the crank handles for operation. There was only one handle on the upper floor that we could use to open and close the many windows that didn't have a crank lever, a major annoyance.
-The dishwasher door was misaligned and consequently very difficult to close. In order to get the dishwasher to start one had to repeatedly open and close the door and use a certain amount of body english to get the door in the proper position to start the cycle.
-There were plenty of knives in the kitchen, all of them dull. An inexpensive sharpener would be a big help.
-The bottom sheets didn't quite fit properly on all the beds. They always had to be refitted in the morning.
-The two sliding doors on the upper level need work. Both had pieces of trim hanging loose on the outside upper part of the door. The living room sliding door was very difficult to operate.
-Numerous light bulbs were burned out. These were in the ceiling and outside fixtures.
Overall we really enjoyed the house, it was very well equipped, but it does need some TLC maintenance to make it perfect. -

We stayed at the L'il Windhaven in July 2009. The upstaires is very spacious and open. Kitchen was well stocked. There was enough room for 2 families (4 kids below 12) to stay adequately.
Wish there had been wireless internet there. Queen size beds were more like full sized (there needs to be King sized beds). Deck needed to be sanded--splinter issues. The wind made grilling on the 'park type' grill difficult, but we did okay. -

This house is absolutely beautiful and the property owners thought of (most) everything!! We had a total of 2 adult couples and 4 young children and found we had everything we needed for a week's vacation. The views from the 2nd floor are amazing, and the elevated sitting room was used constantly. The proximity to the beach with private walkway was invaluable with little kids that like to go in and out for beach breaks. Only downsides were no WiFi (but we could pick it up on the deck on one side of the house) and the grill is SAD. A new gas grill and internet access would have made this place perfect. Would stay there again.

My family of 6 and my mom and dad spent a week at Lil' Windhaven in October. It became one of our favorite vacation memories. Very relaxing.... plenty of room for all of us to spread out and yet, be together! IT was AWESOME to sit in the "upper room" and watch the ocean. We could almost touch the ocean from the house! We could see dolphins and watch the pelicans from inside the house ... We watched a storm come in one day and leave the next! The sunrises and sunsets were awe inspiring.... all from inside the house or from the deck! Of course, it was also awesome to be able to walk out the door and be on the beach! What a wonderful way to enjoy God's creation!

We added a weeks stay on the outer banks as part of a 3 week vacation in the US.
The house was larger than we needed as there were only 3 of us (including our 1 year old daughter) but still managed to have a cosy feel to it. The main living area with its views out to sea was a fantastic light airy space chill out in.
Stairgates were available and ensured that we were able to relax and know that our daughter could not end up anywhere she shouldn't. The full enclosed wrap-around deck was great in providing a safe outdoor space for her to run around and in and out of the doors into the living space. The walkway from the house, over the dune and directly onto the beach was also fantastic and she loved running up and down it, leaving her happy, exhausted and ready for bed :)
