August 2013 positive reviews appropriate for September 2013 stay.
Quiet tree lined neighborhood great for walking and biking. House has an abundance of bikes, boogie boards, kayaks and tennis racquets. Short drive to parking lots at beach which are lovely and have only a dozen or so people during the hottest days of the month.
Docked my motorized row boat on the canal and toured Southern Shores and Ginguite Bay by water. Good service from Southern Shores Realty fixing a kitchen light and the pool was kept clean with weekly service.
House could use a guide for the use the television and the hot tub.
Has a nice tea kettle but no tea pot! Mattresses are perfectly fine but a little hard. Wifi linked immediately and had pretty good speeds.

We loved this home in a beautiful, peaceful, wooded neighborhood. Our favorite part was the private pool in a private backyard with two decks. The higher porch was perfect for enjoying morning coffee and the lower, covered porch was perfect for reading on a rainy afternoon. The home was clean, nicely furnished, and well stocked with kitchen utensils as well as beach and pool necessities and multiple bicycles! Multiple parking lots close by made for super easy beach access. Highly recommend this home (except for families with toddlers because of multiple staircases).

House had everything we needed; lots of bikes, beach chairs & beach equipment. Excellent for pets. Outdoor area & pool was great. Outside refrigerator is an excellent idea.
House had a water leak but the rental company responded quickly & it was taken care of without any major inconveniences.

This was our third year spending six months in this home from Nov thru the end of april. We are looking forward to our return this fall for a fourth season in the OBX. We are very fortunate to have wonderful neighbors. This is a beautiful, peaceful, scenic neighborhood away from traffic. The house is situated on the canal and many hours can be spent just sitting on the dock and enjoying the fish jumping and watching numerous species of birds or just reading a good book.
We do not get to use the pool at this time of year but it would be a real asset for summer residents with two raised decks for observing the kids in the pool. Boating on the canal a real plus and only five minutes by car to the beach( or 10 if you choose to walk) All shopping is only five minutes away. Great all around location. Can't be beat!

The house was nice, and we enjoyed having the pool all to ourselves. However, as the description says, it's a little far from the beach, and at the time of our stay, the furniture was worn through to the padding and uncomfortable. Everything else was great :)

The location back in a residential neighborhood did provide the peace and quiet I was looking for, i.e. away from the noise and hustle bustle of an oceanside cottage. The beach chairs need to be replaced and/or checked for damage (most not usable) and it would be really nice if the owner would allow use of a canoe/kayak since the property is on the canal (locked up). Biggest gripe which I reported on my return key comment sheet was that SS Realty never came at all to mow the grass which got REALLY high and was a hazard to our pet and humans (ticks/possible snakes). I also reported after a few days that the AC unit in the attic was obviously leaking through the kitchen ceiling, but the maintenance man sent out was not interested in checking it out and just left without doing anything. If I was the owner, I would be quite distressed with the poor management of the property - - bet you don't post this!!

This is a nice home away from all of the chaos of the beach road. It's on a canal so you still have the feel of being on the water. This home offers the feel of vacation without feeling like a tourist. Our teenagers loved having a room with a deck and access to the pool without traveling through the house. You are away from the beach though and have to drive, bike, or walk a little ways, but the public beach is close with a nice parking lot. We would stay here again without hesitation.

My new bride and i spent our honeymoon in 2007 at poteskeet and fell in love with the place. In 2008 we returned for our 1st anniversary with friends to celebrate and even though the weather didnt cooperate this time the place still maintained its charm the southern shores staff are beyond words excellence doesnt even begin to describe. the people around the property were polite and friendly nightly walks with our two legged and 4 legged friends were a real treat. the only suggestion i have is to update the outdoor deck furniture looked shabby and well worn the fishing off the the little pier is great and made for lots of laughs and snuggle nights. we will return for 2nd anniversary in 2009 if financially able. miss the outer banks. thank you to the owners for opening the wonderful home and for the southern shores staff for their patience and servitude.
bless you all and happy new year.

I would not recommend this property. When we arrived the house was not cleaned. Everything was dusty, kitchen was greasy, and there was dog throw up on the carpet in two areas. After spending a few hours cleaning the place the realty company finally sent someone over - too late. The yard was not taken care of - grass was about a foot high and there was broken glass in the carport. Pool area was very unkept as was the area down by the dock. Again - someone came to cut grass after I complained and they shot dust and cut grass all over the sidewalks and our vehicles and didnt clean up. Hammock didnt work on deck. I have stayed at another property thru SS and never had these issues. I would not stay at this property again. Sorry - it looked nice in the pictures.
