The house was nice, and we enjoyed having the pool all to ourselves. However, as the description says, it's a little far from the beach, and at the time of our stay, the furniture was worn through to the padding and uncomfortable. Everything else was great :)

The location back in a residential neighborhood did provide the peace and quiet I was looking for, i.e. away from the noise and hustle bustle of an oceanside cottage. The beach chairs need to be replaced and/or checked for damage (most not usable) and it would be really nice if the owner would allow use of a canoe/kayak since the property is on the canal (locked up). Biggest gripe which I reported on my return key comment sheet was that SS Realty never came at all to mow the grass which got REALLY high and was a hazard to our pet and humans (ticks/possible snakes). I also reported after a few days that the AC unit in the attic was obviously leaking through the kitchen ceiling, but the maintenance man sent out was not interested in checking it out and just left without doing anything. If I was the owner, I would be quite distressed with the poor management of the property - - bet you don't post this!!

This is a nice home away from all of the chaos of the beach road. It's on a canal so you still have the feel of being on the water. This home offers the feel of vacation without feeling like a tourist. Our teenagers loved having a room with a deck and access to the pool without traveling through the house. You are away from the beach though and have to drive, bike, or walk a little ways, but the public beach is close with a nice parking lot. We would stay here again without hesitation.

My new bride and i spent our honeymoon in 2007 at poteskeet and fell in love with the place. In 2008 we returned for our 1st anniversary with friends to celebrate and even though the weather didnt cooperate this time the place still maintained its charm the southern shores staff are beyond words excellence doesnt even begin to describe. the people around the property were polite and friendly nightly walks with our two legged and 4 legged friends were a real treat. the only suggestion i have is to update the outdoor deck furniture looked shabby and well worn the fishing off the the little pier is great and made for lots of laughs and snuggle nights. we will return for 2nd anniversary in 2009 if financially able. miss the outer banks. thank you to the owners for opening the wonderful home and for the southern shores staff for their patience and servitude.

I would not recommend this property. When we arrived the house was not cleaned. Everything was dusty, kitchen was greasy, and there was dog throw up on the carpet in two areas. After spending a few hours cleaning the place the realty company finally sent someone over - too late. The yard was not taken care of - grass was about a foot high and there was broken glass in the carport. Pool area was very unkept as was the area down by the dock. Again - someone came to cut grass after I complained and they shot dust and cut grass all over the sidewalks and our vehicles and didnt clean up. Hammock didnt work on deck. I have stayed at another property thru SS and never had these issues. I would not stay at this property again. Sorry - it looked nice in the pictures.
