My husband and I stayed at shell-y-bration for a week on our honeymoon in June 2013. The house was large and thoughtfully decorated, and very clean. We did find a couple roaches, but that was it. You can tell the owners put a lot of care into the house- it has extra pillows, blankets, a booster seat, lots of games and books, a stereo, some movies, and just other small things that make you feel more at home. We enjoyed the double decks, one with a swing. The kitchen and living room are very nice, and the couches are comfortable. The mattresses could use replacing, though, they are pretty old and quite firm. We really enjoyed the two person jacuzzi too! The decor is also very '90s, but we didn't mind. The house is only a block or so from the beach, and in a quieter part of OBX, down the street from all the restaurants and shops. So if you have a family that likes to go to bed early, I'd recommend this area! That being said, it's only half a mile to a mile away from all those fun things (plus WalMart, Harris Teeter, and Starbucks!) so it's really convenvient. The beach by the house is not crowded at all, very relaxing, lots of families. There are tons of little sand crabs out at dawn and dusk- they are so funny to watch! All in all, we had a great, relaxing honeymoon at shell-y-bration. It's a good deal too- we were able to have our beach honeymoon within our budget!

The check in was smooth. Staff very helpful since first time to Outer Banks. The house was clean & very comfortable felt like home away from home. The only hitch was grill - no gas - wasn't clear which grill was to be used by renters.

My family and I stayed here the last week of July. The location was nice - the house is on a dead-end street and it is directly across from the path that links to the Sprindrift trail. It was also clean and well-stocked.
Unfortunately, I spend half of my vacation on the couch, which was the only place in the house that did not have an old, worn-out mattress. Every mattress in the house (and I checked) was so worn out that each and every wire spring could be felt. It was the most uncomfortable two nights I have ever had. I don't think I slept more than three hours each night before deciding to move to couch.
We also had some maintenance issues, although that probably had more to do with the realty company than the property - we were visited once or twice a day by men coming to clean or fix or inspect things. I was leery of having men I did not know in my house every day and by the last day, was tired of dealing with the daily house calls. One of the showers, which had a crack, was not fixed by the time we were gone, so we really only had two bathrooms.
Until the problem in the bedrooms are fixed, I would advise not staying here.

We had left a note that the house was not particularly cleaned up after the last guests. We recognize the people probably have a lot of houses to do in a little amount of time but if we were the owners paying for the cleaning we wouldn't be happy.

The house keeping service was good. It was clean except for some stains on the carpet. The remotes in the living room did not work and one of them had been chewed up by a dog. The house smelled like a dog until you got used to it. There was a light blowed on the upstairs deck and also under the house.
On the up side, it does have a view and nice decks. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed as we did our own cooking all week.
I rented this house for the price and the location-Southern Shores is absolutely beautiful! My daughter has asthma so I wish it would have really been a pet free house like it said.

Shell-Y-Bration was the perfect place for our family reunion vacation. The spacious home sleeps 10 perfectly. We had three families share the home and everyone was pleased the sleeping arrangements and the open kitchen and living room area. The kitchen was well equipped and the new grill was great too. We had plenty of room for people to spread out inside the house and on the decks. The beach was within walking distance, very clean and the ocean was great! You do have to be mindful of the strong ocean currents and riptides at the Outer Bankds. Having an outside showere worked well for getting off that extra sand. The location of the home in Southern Shores was perfect for sight seeing. Other communities were within an easy drive to visit museums and the lighthouses. Restaraunts and grocery stores were very close. Everyone's favorite was our drive on the beach to see the wild Corolla mustangs!! We also just happen to have perfect weather for our week. We will be renting in the future!

We spent a wonderful week at Shell-y-bration in June 08, July 07, and July 06. We had a wonderful time. This is a great place for family and friends. It is close enough to the beach after a short walk, but far enough away so you miss the loud noise on the beach at night. It was easy to bring the kids and all our gear. After a short stop at the rental office, on the way to the house, we just drove right to the house. Everything was in order when we arrived, and we were pleased to
learn that the pictures online matched the home. It's actually nicer than the pictures!
