The house was very nice and the pool was excellent. The saltwater pool was a great place to hang out with the little kids as they were too small to swim in the ocean. The pool has a shallow end and a deep end so our kids wore swim trainers in case they went in the deep end. The house also had a small room for the outdoor stuff. It contained two beach bikes, a wagon, and. stuff for the pool. Plenty of chairs were by the pool. The house also has hot tub off the top master bedroom and one by the pool. I did not go in either because the pool was warm enough while we were there. We walked over to the beach twice with the kids and a wagon came in handy for that walk. It was in a nice quiet location with plenty of privacy.

We enjoyed the layout of this house, as well as the pool and hot tubs. Very nice ocean views from the decks. It was a bit far from the ocean for the price, and the trek across Duck Rd. was a bit much on high traffic days. The "direct beach access" is a bit of a stretch, but the walk wasn't bad at all (about 4 blocks) and the neighborhood is very quiet and residential. We were there towards the end of the summer season, and the house was in desperate need of a good, thorough cleaning... we were hoping this was just an end of season fluke. There were a few maintenance issues we reported to Southern Shores, and never heard back from them -- hopefully those items were addressed (malfunctioning stove, dryer venting into the house making it very hot on the 2nd floor).
The pet friendliness was very nice, the pool is larger than most OBX private pools, and the beds were very comfy. The house was fully equipped for little ones. We would definitely stay here again as long as the house got a good scrubbing and it was the off-season (making it easier to hop across Duck Rd).

Service was great, we called maintenance twice once for a burner that did not work and another for the ant problem. Both times they were there promptly.
The house is in a great location with views from all the decks. The distance from the beach sounds far but really is only a short walk.
Could have used more televisions since there was none in the Master and the other two guests rooms.
The men where figting over what to watch.
The major problem we had was the stove. You could not read any of the information for the dials so cooking was hard. So it was trial and error when trying to cook. Also the burners could use new rings around them and that could easily be fixed with a trip to Home Depot.
Overall we enjoyed the house and looking to book it again in the Fall of 2010.

I want to thank the owner of the Vista Del Mar and Southern Shores Realty for a great week. This was the first time we ever rented a home for a family vacation and it had everything we needed. The pool and hot tubs were a hit with everyone. We did some cooking inside, some grilling outside and did a lot of relaxing and just spent quality time with my family.!The location was very quiet but still only a short walk to the beach and what was really nice was that we were only a mile or so from the grocery stores and etc.On July 4th we sat on the balcony and watched the fireworks for hours, the view of the ocean is just beautiful out there. We would definitly recomend this house especially for families. If you can't go on a cruise this is the place to go!Hope I get a chance to write another review next year! Thanks again!

My family rented Vista Del Mar and had the max amount of people in it for a week. I was concerned about not having enough space, but it wasn't a problem at all. There were enough decks and rooms to get away if you need some time away. The walk to the beach was a little long, but not bad. I loved the pool! It was beautiful, and when we had a problem, the pool guys came out right away. My goal was to have a place for my family to gather w/o breaking the bank, and this place did it with flying colors.

My family and I have stayed here the summers of '07 and '08, each time for 2 weeks. We really LOVE the pool, which is saltwater, and the hot tubs. The views from every deck are wonderful, and proximity to the beach is great. Last year I noticed the floors were re-finished, and they are beautiful.
However, the kitchen is showing some wear and tear. We noticed a large cabinet door missing, and the refrigerator has a broken shelf which has remained that way for 2 years. Also, it often smelled of fish, requiring us to clean it and get the baking soda for odor absorption. Also, probably due to use, glassware needs replacing.
Downstairs, it would be nice to have another larger bed, like a queen, as opposed to 2 rooms with twins/bunk bed set-ups.
Internet access is available, but my husband had to determine how to hook it up as everything was dis-assembled when we arrived.

Great home; excellent views. Pool & Hot Tub outstanding. Living & dining area a little small, bedrooms great. All was in order upon our arrival. I would highly recommend this home for a outstanding vacation on the Banks!
