My husband and I stayed here with our 13 year old twin boys, my brother and his 11 year old twins and my elderly mother. The layout of the house provided personal space for all of us. The house was nicely equipped. Plenty of pool furniture and toys, well-equipped kitchen and lots of deck space. Only improvement I would suggest is a bit more seating in the living room. Two couches just didn't cut it for 8 of us to watch a movie. We are planning to return in 2014 and this house is on the top of my list.

The location in Southern Shores is perfect; quick walk to the beach (4 houses up) without crossing any major roadways, very few people on the beach but location close enough to attractions in Kittyhawk and Nagshead. Perfect size for my family (three grown children with their significant others and my two grand-daughters). Tremendous great room with views (and the decks!) for family time. The kitchen is well appointed (and better than my kitchen at home).

My mother-in-law lives down the street and
it was a perfect location and size for my family. The beach was just a short walk and
the pool was great for the nieces and nephews if the surf got to rough at the beach. The
great room was a great gathering place for meals and games. There was enough bathrooms that no one had to share. Overall we had a
wonderful time and the weather was perfect.

We have stayed at Zephyr for two years and plan on staying again this year. The house is great complete with a pool, deck and a beutifully decorated interior and lots of extras like beach chairs, beach toys and an outside shower. It is a short walk to the beach which is perfect when you have a 3 year in tow.
We have always enjoyed ourselves and hope to enjoy many more vacations there.

We had a truly outstanding week at the Zephyr - one of the best vacations in my life. This is the first time that we stayed in a vacation rental home instead of a hotel -- if I'd known it was this good, we might have done this years ago. The
house is just a SHORT walk down the quiet road to the beautiful beach, and it made
it easy to come and go as we please - day and night. We arrived on Sunday, which is a great day to start the vacation. The Zephyr is a great house, with a floor plan and extensive decks that allowed everyone privacy, and also for the entire group to congregate in comfort on one or multiple levels! It is beautifully and tastefully decorated, inviting you to feel at home. The spacious private parking afforded everyone a spot without the hassle of movement. The yard is larger than most and is appropriately landscaped.
The only complaint -- and a minor one at that -- the deck furniture could use updating, with more comfortable and more sturdy selections.
We definitely recommend this house - especially if you're bringing kids (of all ages) and want to spend a lot of
your vacation at the beach or in the pool. We cooked most meals in the spacious and well equipped kitchen, as well as on the grill outside near the pool.
My advice is to plan an excursion or two thru the week (Corolla horses / jeep tour, or dolphins in the sound) and just relax on the deck, or by the pool, or at the beach the other 85% of your week -- The best part of the OBX is to relax and wear a path to the uncrowded beach every day and night.
We will return one day, when this economy turns around -- until then, the pictures and memories will have to do. Too bad, because I sure could use another dose of the OBX prescription this summer ...

This was a really nice house to stay in. We had a group of 9 people and everyone was comfortable. It never felt crowded and there was lots of common area to get together and play games and eat and laugh. The walk to the beach was not too bad. It was a little bit farther than I would like as we had some older folks staying with us but we didn't have to cross any streets. The neighborhood was quiet and near other things to do. The beach was not crowded which was very nice. The beds and furniture were nice and the kitchen was well equiped. The house felt fresh and clean.

We will not be doing theh OBX anymore It is for adults who want to nest and have house fun.
The surf is to rough for 2 'big' 5YO girls.
Lumber hit my father & my 5yo & caused a bump & a cut. There is 1 ancient playground & 1 new one in duck. There are no rides-only goofy goof+you have to get in your car to do anything. I grew up down south & expected teh "it's all about the beach" but we will be doing teh NJ shore with all it's motels & amusement piers & flat beach with low surf.
Also a house is to much work with no linens, groceries 7 fixing things liek loud pool pumps & doors & hard to access VCR's & DVD's...I'll take a motel with room service & a help desk 1 floor anyday...now that's a vaction with kids!!!!!!!

After years of staying in Kitty Hawk in a cottage first loved as single adults in post college days, we finally realised that a family with 2 small children, a grandmother and other guests needs lots of space and privacy options.
With two full levels, lots of bathrooms en suite and views out every window (tho not of the ocean), we completely enjoyed our stay. The pool was a wonderful option given the rough surf during our stay that threatened to sweep our 2 year old away. The kitchen was fully stocked with equipment and there were loads of TV/audio options. The new W/D convinced us to replace our own once we got home. And having A/C was great!
Duck was a short bike ride away but too far to comfortably walk.

What a great week we had with three generations vacationing together. We were all so pleased with the house. It had a great layout and was very comfortable for our family. The kids (and adults) enjoyed and used the pool daily. It was also a short walk to the beach and really just perfect all around. We definitely plan to be repeat renters in the years to come. I fully recommend Zephyr to anyone looking to spend a week or more in the Outerbanks.
