The furnishings are not as new or fancy as some of the houses we have stayed in, but that makes it more homey for a family with small kids. The pool was awesome and we spent tons of time there. The beach is super close and only a very short walk. Beach was less crowded too. Only thing that would make it perfect would be some type of cover to the hot tub as it is in full sun all day. Otherwise we had best vacation ever!!
This was our second time staying at Colgan. The pool and proximity to the beach make this a great family cottage. While it may not be as fancy as some, we found our cottage comfortable. A day at the beach was followed by dinner on the deck, then a dip in the pool before a relaxing soak in the hot tub! We've been treated well by Southern Shores Realty. We'll be back!
We were very disappointed in the inside of this house. It had a very musty smell and was much older and smaller than it looked. The pool area and 50 yard walk to the beach was great, but the rest of the house was really not designed to accommodate 14 people. Unless the house was updated, I would not stay in it again or recommend it to anyone else.

We really enjoyed Colgan. It was an older house but had everything we needed and plenty of space. We really enjoyed the sun room and the pool and hot tub. It is a very short walk to the beach. The annex is wonderful as well for extra guests. Loved the bike trail also.
Dishwasher didn't seem to clean the dishes as well as we would like at times.
This property was new for us this past year. We will not consider returning there in the future. We rented quite early in the season so perhaps it just wasn't completely ready for guests as we called for repairs a few times. It had a campy feel to it which was enjoyed, but it just felt a bit run down. The repair people were prompt, efficient and friendly. We did enjoy the pool and loved the easy access to the beach, a short, straight walk and you were there.

This was our first year staying in a house with a pool and I was a little nervous as two grandchildren are under 4. Liked the locked gate with alarm. Well appointed house, great access to the beach and the pool and hot tub was enjoyed by all. My husband and I stayed in the annex and enjoyed having the peace and quiet while the "kids" were in the main house.
Plenty of room for 11 adults and 2 children.
great location for price. loved the pool and hot tub. convenient separate rooms. but we found it to be dingy and did not think it was very clean. uncomfortable with that. may stay again for the good stuff if price still reasonable, but would probably bring more cleaning supplies.

The proximity to the beach, the HUGE pool area, and the carport MADE this rental!!! If you are looking for a nice house though, don't choose this one. It is VERY small - nothing like the pictures on the website - it smelled, it was dirty, and it was loaded with spiders. The deck off the back of the house is down right scary...especially if you have young children. The rail is WAY too low to be safe. Beware of the foxes there as well, especially after sundown. My dogs and I were chased back to the house our first night there. I called animal control who came out and even they were surprised how close the foxes would come when I brought my dogs out. They said I probably interrupted them going through someone's trash can. They are thick as rats there.
I did write all this on the paper I turned into Southern Shores and hope the owners have cleaned things up a bit. I'm not renting this one this coming season but will drive by it while I'm there and see if anything has been done to fix it up. Our whole group would love to give it another chance.
