Charlottesville, VAAnother great stay at the Geyer House
Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We came to the Geyer house over our kids' spring break for the second year in a row, and it was wonderful once again. It has everything one could want for our 4 kids (ages 1-10), who were thrilled to come back again. To help with the kids, the Geyer House has tons of games, toys, and movies, as well as a high chair, kid dishes, a crib, a stroller, and lots of beach chairs and toys. And when the kids are happy, the adults are happy and relaxed too! The house is very spacious, and we love the big open layout and domed ceiling of the central room. The beach (less than 1/2 block away) was great, and we enjoyed flying kites, collecting shells, and watching the crashing waves. It was a wonderfully relaxing week.

Rockville, Maryland, United StatesGreat Vacation House
Left on 08/18/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Despite the previous review on traveling with older children we had a great time at Geyer cottage. The teenagers hooked into the WiFi and used their ear phones so the adults could converse in comfort. The proximity of the beach and the hot tub were big pluses for this rental. Also the Friday to Friday rental allowed us to avoid major traffic headaches. The keyless entry was great. You could go to the beach and not have to worry about losing your keys in the sand. The kitchen was great too. Only thing to remember is to turn on the ceiling fans in the bedrooms at night or you will be quite warm in the morning.

Charlottesville, VAThis cottage is a gem!
Left on 04/17/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We stayed at the Geyer Cottage from 30 March - 4 april 2012 and had a wonderful time. It is spacious, has a great open layout with a vaulted ceiling, and is perfect for either a bigger family or two small families. (The layout works great for 2 families, with two BRs off either side of the great room.) We were there with our 4 children (ages 9, 8, 5, and an infant) and it was perfect for us. The beach is a few houses down the street, and there are lots of beach accessories (buckets, shovels, chairs, etc). The kitchen is incredibly well stocked, and there are toys, games, and movies galore. We can't wait to go back and stay longer next time! (Maybe we'll bring grandparents along next time!)

New YorkA cook' dream house
Left on 04/28/2010 for a stay in April 2010
This house has it all if you are a cook. It was so well stocked and had every utensil- appliance you could need or want for a vacation. The wrap around porch was so nice. You could always find sun or shade to read or just relax. It was located on a quiet street. Just a short walk to the beach. You won't be disappointed. I am planning my next vacation already.

Left on 10/01/2009 for a stay in September 2009
Geyer cottage is a classic Outer Banks Cottage. Perfect for two couples + kids/grand kids. Nice sun room and library areas to relax plus a large living room / dining room area for family gathering. Lots of deck space to stretch out. Surrounding trees provide privacy and lots of shady spots to escape the sun when needed.

Washington, DCPerfect for a younger family
Left on 09/16/2009 for a stay in September 2009
I loved the location of the house and would recommend it to a family with smaller children. We had all adults and the problem was we were all on top of each other a little bit. The dining room, kitchen and living room are all part of one great room, which is very open. We just found it a little difficult to not have a separate living space if someone wanted to read away from everyone else or play a game without disturbing someone watching TV. There is a "den" on the lower level, but you have to go outside to access it and the room was not particularly welcoming. If you are thinking of a ranch styled house with everything on one level you will do fine. The owners were very gracious and there was detergent and cleaning supplies as well as fully stocked kitchen (the knives were fantastically sharp) which was great. I think the house was nice, just not quite what we had expected and would meet the needs of another family perfectly. The distance to beach was great and it was great to run back if you forgot something. The house itself was pretty secluded and the road was very quiet which was really great as well.

Philadelphia areaA house we call home 2 weeks a year
Left on 01/13/2009 for a stay in July 2008
This will be our 4th year staying in "Geyer" and we love it. Our grandkids are already planning what we will do when we get there. So many are returning at the same time each year it is like seeing old friends and the kids always have someone to play with on the beach. Fireworks on the beach on the 4th of July is a special treat as well.
The street is private and safe for bike riding and we aren't far from the bike path to Duck. We all decorate our bikes and ride in the Duck 4th of July parade.
The Geyer's provide so many little "extras" that it is easy to pack and have everything you will need when you arrive.
We have been coming to the Outer Banks for 30 plus years and this is one of the best houses we have stayed in; in part, becase we think this is what a beach house should be.... comfortable, not too fancy.

Philadelphia, PAA real beach house
Left on 01/13/2009 for a stay in July 2006
We have been vacationing on the Outer Banks since the mid 70's and have stayed at many of Southern Shores' properties.
This has been one of the best because it has everything you need when traveling with small children. In our mind this is what a beach house is supposed to be.
The house is an easy walk to the beach and quite private with numerous plantings that protect you from seeing your neighbors. The property and the street look much like they would have looked 40 years ago.
The are plenty of toys and movies/DVDs/games for rainy days or when you just need a break from the beach. The computer was nice and setup so we could all use our laptops to check on things back home. The kitchen had all we needed to cook our favorite meals.
A really nice house!

This home was very comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed and items that we didn't think we would need. The computer and games were a bonus. The hot tub was fabulous. We would vacation here again if he opportunity is available.
