Best vacation ever!
The greatest place to stay when looking to enjoy Mount Desert Island and acadia National Park. We stayed in two different locations during our 3 week vacation. First the americana cottage, that was beautifully rustic and comfortable with a wonderful woodbox stove for chilly evenings and mornings! I loved the quiet of the woods and the ability to close out the world around us. Located just a short walk from the shops and restaurants in Southwest Harbor. Our hosts were kind and gracious and attended to our every need. Our second location, the Hyewood House in Manset Harbor, was just steps away from the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen. A more modern house with plenty of space and (much to my husband and son's delight) TV and Wifi. These cottages, whether rustic or modern, are beautifully structured and decorated. We were able to enjoy all aspects of the island and consider this our best vacation ever!

tranquility with a view!
charming and relaxing stay with the basic amenities and then some for ones daily experiences. The outdoor patio was lovely w/ an enclosed tent to keep the outdoor criiters out.We traveled w/ my parents ( my mom is legally blind) who enjoyed a safe and lovely stay. The downstairs bathroom though small was great with a walk in shower; the lighting bright for evening and the windows allowed for alot of brightness. Accomodating to walk to town and owners gracious and helpful! Thank you for a lovely and memorable time!

The best week in acadia!
My family has vacationed at acadia the past 14 summers. We have stayed in motels, hotels, and cabins. The last 4 summers we have stayed at the Quietside. 2008 we stayed in the americana. 2009,2010, and 2011 we stayed in the Rose Cottage. We always hike in acadia National Park. This location is the best on the Island. Close to the Park without the crowds. The staff at anna's always takes care of our needs. You can walk to Southwest Harbor to eat, shop or for groceries. We are looking forward to returning to anna's in 2012. There is no better lodging on Mt. Desert Island than anna's.

The Birdhouse - We Will Definitely Be Going Back
We stayed here from Sept. 23 - 27, 2011 and rented out the Birdhouse. Marc made a special exception leasing out to us for a partial week. Upon a late arrival, a quick phone call had him meeting us within minutes at the Birdhouse for check in. Brief encounters with other 'staff,' leads me to believe that this is a real family-run operation...and I like that. Everyone we met at anna's, while reserved, was polite and friendly. We had no needs to call upon, but I got the impression that they would have been met with a quickness. The Birdhouse was perfect for us: small, simple, and clean. Quaint. We didn't get a chance to use the wood-burning stove, but got the impression it would be quite cozy on a crisp autumn or Spring night. The grill saw us having steak dinner one evening, and the kitchen comes fully stocked with whatever utensils and cooking implements needed (if not in the Birdhouse, plenty of other stuff is available in their hospitality suite).
The location: perfect for our needs. Mdi isn't huge, but in the middle of Southwest Harbor, Anna's is far enough away from Bar Harbor (~14 miles or so). A short walk down to the Main road will see you in a small bustling strip with at least one restaurant and cafe. The grounds of anna's were clean, well kept. Would like to see the garden in summer time (all you can pick veggies and strawberries for guests!).
What we liked best: Quiet, seclusion, quaint atmosphere, location
What we liked least: Stretching here...but I will say that the Birdhouse seemed rather...delicate. Kind of like staying a few steps up from a tent (granted, I like tenting it...and it's neighbor _is_ the TeePee). Just, the walls were kind of...thin. We did, however, get a chance to tour the Pavilion and I can say that does not hold true for all of the cabins at anna's.
All in all, a great experience. We hope to go back next year...and stay in the Pavilion. :) Thanks to Marc et al. for your courtesy and service. It was a special trip and stay.
