      Home from home!

Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in May 2013

First impressions often last and our first view of this delightful cottage was the front garden blazing with hundreds of daffodils! Inside the cottage was incredibly warm, clean, spacious, well maintained and cosy with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The local pub has just re-opened and will be serving food from the end of May. Lots of walks locally and Coniston's only a short drive away. Will definately be coming back!

      A wonderful place to relax

Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in January 2013

My wife and our two boys together with my mother in law rented Crake Cottage for a few days over the New Year. Whilst the weather was dreadful and the river Crake had burst its banks it was a wonderful break. Despite the weather we were able to take our dogs and get them out for long walks. The fresh air and the surrounding countryside were just what we needed as a family. Having returned to the cottage soaking wet we were able to light a fire an relax. I would definitely recommend Crake Cottage although for anyone going during school holidays I would highly recommend booking restaurants in advance of your trip as we struggled to find places in Ulverston that were not fully booked.

      a wonderful stay over Christmas

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We had stayed at Crake Cottage before so we knew that we liked it. We were there over Christmas from Christmas Eve for 5 days and left on the 6th day. Before we went I wondered if they might have put up a Christmas tree. Not only was there a lovely Christmas tree they had put up Christmas lights, wreaths on the doors, candles, Christmas stockings hanging either side of the (real) fire which we used and they left us mince pies and mulled wine. The caretaker also went in before we were due to put the Christmas lights on. What a welcome is that! It really put the icing on the cake for us. If there is a problem you just ring the number provided and someone sees to it. It's a very comfortable cottage and we didn't want to leave.

      Relaxing and comfortable

Left on 11/16/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Arriving after dark we found the access arrangements very convenient. The cottage was warm, clean and welcoming after the long drive from Devon. The parking was a little tight for a large vehicle - we have a VW Transporter and it was tight getting into the drive if you we're coming up the hill, not so much of a problem if you approached from the opposite direction. We struggled to find somewhere which would accommodate all 4 of our dogs, so we were delighted to come across this gem. The garden was secure so no worries about them being out on their own... Couple of gaps in the hedging in the far corner which could be attractive for a small escape artist but our collies wouldn't have got through.
The cottage was fully kitted out with everything you would expect including a huge pile of soft towels :-)
The only bad point was we felt it would be a bit of a squeeze accommodating 6 which is how it is advertised. There is only 1 bathroom, so only the 1 toilet and shower. The front room would comfortably seat 4 but 6 would be tight. That said, this did not affect us as there was only the two of us and the four dogs so perfect for our needs.
Would recommend to anyone as the location was excellent for a range of walks... Woodland, lakes and beacons all within easy drive.

      a delightful week

Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012

The cottage was sparkling clean and very comfy and cosy. We bought a cafetiere as we couldn't get the coffee maker to do anything but cold coffee! The electrics went off a few times- a bit of an issue in the village and didn't seem to bother the locals but a torch and candles came in very handy. Ate a few times at the local pub - a nice treat after a busy day walking and visiting the tourist sites. We know the area well but were happy to revisit the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway, go on Steam Gondola on Coniston and walk around Tarn Hows. It was good to be able to take our dog - we found we could go in a lot of places with him. We'd definitely go to the cottage again - and take more candles!

      Cute but flawed

Left on 06/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I wrote to the site managers and got no reply. Briefly the cottage is cute but has interesting electrics (we could not find the 2nd fuse box and had to summon help); very draughty (you could see daylight through the letter box and some window frames); coal shovel broken; not a sharp knife in the place (this had been mentioned a month before in the notes book); dishwasher pill dispenser broken; iron frame bneds uncomfortable for anyone over 5'10". The place is attractive if you like old world cottage; the location is lovely and the nearby pub does a nice meal.

My family had a great time.

Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in May 2012

The cottage provided plenty of room for the five of us. Having one bathroom did create some challanges. My guest were visiting from the States and the cottage gave them an experience about the "English" way.

great stay, loads of information and well equipped

Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Such a lovely cottage, well equipped, looks stunning in the "flesh" as it does in the pictures. Great open fire and well presented decor.
Plus points - loads of coal for the open fire, always toasty and warm, everything was spotless and clean, brilliant shower though make sure you leave hot water on if theres a few of you as it runs off a tank and the last person finds the shower gets cooler!!
Down point - take some sharp knives if you want to cook (seriously, thats the only bad point i can think of)

      a very comfortable stay

Left on 03/12/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Crake cottage has everything that you could need. The village and surrounding views are lovely. The cottage has just got free wifi which we had a difficulty with but we just rang the number we were left in case of a problem and it was sorted straight away. Very good service. A lovely real fire with pleny of coal etc to use it. A previous person had written in the comment book that it was pitch black outside the cottage until you got up the road a bit. This was rectified because a torch had been left by the door which was very useful when taking the dog for a walk. No problem. Very comfortable facilities.

      Fantastic Week

Left on 11/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011

One of our most enjoyable breaks for ages. Myself, wife, son and his wife plus our dog. Ideal base for tour of lakes. Great week outdoors.

Cottage was second to none, if I had the money I would buy it and live there myself.

      Many thanks, we'll be back

      Character cottage in South Lakes

Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Lovely character cottage in pretty village with good access to all of the lakes.Very clean, plenty of hot water and very helpful caretaker living locally to assist with any problems. Good pub just up the road. Only slight downside is the lack of usable garden and parking is tight with a large car but would recommend for couples or families.
